Moleworms...Eternal food source?

Recommended Posts

So I set my camp near two Moleworm spawn points. Turns out, although they are sometimes irritating because of their stone thieving habits, they are a great benefit. The spawn everyday and I bait them with stones so I can kill them, and basically I have two pieces of morsel a day. I don´t know why I bothered making farms for the Winter, I am literally having food delivered to me.

To be honest, it feels a little like cheating, I think Klei should fix this.

rabbits is a little cheating, they respawn and you can get them very easily,  Berry bushes are absolutely OP nerf them, don't put carrot on world gen...bee farms should generate 1 honey max and it take 7 days...

But at least you have to hunt them. I literally have a food delivery service, they just come to me and bring me food, and it requires no effort whatsoever. It´s amazing, but kinda feels like cheating.

Nah, you can just put a trap DIRECTLY over the rabbit hole, no hunting required. Just make part of your daily routine to pick up the traps, and place them back down. Just as you could run out of rocks baiting moleworms, I could easily run out of trap materials, since they're used for a lot of things.

Er, I don't think you're likely to run out of materials to bait moleworms with, considering they even eat ashes. If you're doing it right, they won't even eat the bait. Even if they do, don't they drop what they've eaten when they die?

I don't imagine that getting meat from moleworms is that much easier than getting it from rabbits. However, there is something I'm concerned about here. Aren't moleworms supposed to dig new burrows when you release them? Doesn't that mean you could create your own meat farm at practically no cost?

Berry bushes are overpowered? I can never find loads on default, so maybe it's just me.

As for mole worms, eh, maybe. I'm gonna make a pen just to keep a few, myself, not like I haven't already got 16 improved farms up and 11 meat racks. I guess it also helps that I seem to have found the best place resource wise, and it's certainly my most successfully run. Plenty of beefalo to boot. Hounds aren't a trouble, yada yada. No pigs or spiders nearby for easy farming, though.

I guess bunnies are somewhat cheating, if down to the quick respawn time, but as Wigrid i'd be dead without them mostly during the early starts, *I have terrible luck finding meat resources as her for some reason much of the time* and completely screwed on King of Winter, which I've unfortunately started on first...

Let's face it. For a game called Don't Starve, I can't help but think the developers named it that as a form of irony. Starving is really the last thing that will happen. It's everything else you should worry about first.

I built a pen inside my base, leave traps over rabbit holes then go collect them. I don't kill them just put them in the pen, now thats a op food source. They are all just right there if I ever need them, which I usually don't. I don't like killing cute bunnies.

But at least for rabbits you need to build traps. With moles, literally all I have to do is stand there , place a piece of stone and then hit them with an axe, and then win. And they respawn everyday, so I´m never running out.

awwwh poor moles.

Mole: "Is that? Is that gold?!? I can´t believe it...Thank you God! I´ll never have to work again! Wait until I tell the kids! My parents are going to be so proud! This is the best day of my life!

Bam! Wilson bashes its skull with a shovel.

I have NO clue at all what you're talking about. I have trouble living off of just those things alone, so therefore, not OP imo.

Also, your idea of balances for honey/bee farms is patently absurd, i'm telling you right now. 2 weeks just to make honey ham? Or a bandage? That's an entire season down the tube!

My heck....Why didn't I think of that? I have rabbits and traps I don't need....Why don't I just make a bunny pen/haven? Hah Hah....Come to think of it, this is a brilliant food source saver..... I feel really dense now. XD

Berries are probably one of the worst foods you can rely on. Fast spoil rate, don't restore much hunger, grow slow, and almost don't grow at all during winter. The only thing they are really good for is crockpot recipes. Even then they become obsolete when you have the resources for better recipes.

By the way, how do people create pens without being unable to get in, or letting the animals get out?

Build them right next to the ocean. A player can pass the gap between the ocean border and a wall, but creatures can't.

Huh, I was under the impression that enemies could enter through that same gap.

For a game called Don't Starve, starvation itself I don't think has ever been my downfall. They should call the game 'Don't get greedy or complacent' as those account for 100% of my deaths.

As intended, hunger itself doesn't usually kill you. The things you do to get food on the other hand do often kill you. You could go Koalefant hunting for food but then get killed by a Varg for instance.

No! No! Do none of this! I need all these things to survive!

Question: Will grass walls encase bunnies? Because that is a fantastic early game strategy...I have some experimenting to do =3

I haven't tried grass, *I think wood walls look fancier* but since there is no difference between wood and grass besides one burns faster and gets destroyed quicker, I assume the mechanics are completly the same. Grass wall still counts as a blockade, even if its a real crappy one.
