One thing you wish you knew when you started...

Recommended Posts

No tips or strategies....

I wish I knew how addicting this game would be and how many weeks (so many hours, weeks seems more appropriate) I'd put into it. Not that it would've kept me from playing, but still would've been nice to know.

Best tip I can think of.... experiment!

See what works for you and what doesn't. Play accordingly! Have fun! Don't Starve!!

OK, no survival strategies, no spoilers.... trying to think back to when I first started playing...

  • Follow the animal tracks, something cool will happen once you've uncovered them all.
  • Some mobs you encounter will always be aggressive to you. Meanwhile, some mobs you encounter will always be friendly to you until something triggers their aggression.
  • Take care opening random chests/structures you encounter (these are called "Set Pieces"). Some are kind, and some are downright rotten.
  • Always have a torch.

And finally, just a game mechanic that took me ages to realize was occurring: you can build/craft some items without placing them on the ground. Think of it like having them on reserve.

First off, I will say this pre-RoG... Since I am having a reasonable amount of difficulty, mastering my new 'summer' *sizzle sizzle*...

But when i started, if I saved up the right materials, and passed over to the next world.. 6th world being as far as i really didnt need to go, I found gameplay and controlled experiments, easier to get to. So, making long, short. get some gear, get some experience, grab the parts necessary to go to the next world, stock up, and jump.

And never, never, never wander off in dangerous areas, with no armor and no way to resurrect if you die... Never.

With the 'fast' farmplots it takes only 2 manure to fully grow it from the moment you plant it

What I mean is I starved trying to depend on food from the metal potato thing setpiece. How confused I was when I first found that!
