How are you supposed to use the Piggyback?

Recommended Posts

Maybe I'm just still noobish in some ways, but I don't really get the point of the piggyback.

The idea behind having more inventory space is so you can harvest more resources. However, if you're slowed down by the Piggyback, you won't be able to get resources as fast. So it ends up contradicting itself. The only purpose I can think of is on the ground since it has more storage space than the Chest, but I doubt that's what Klei intended it to be used for. I see that it has some buffs in RoG that I like, but I don't even have RoG so I'm stuck with a crappy Piggyback. I can think of way better uses for the materials that go into the Piggyback.

So can a more experienced player shed some light on this? Or is it just crap outside of RoG?

I use RPGHUD, and it doesn't slow you down if you put in in the backpack slot, so I use the piggy.

I use it when venturing through the Teleportato to carry as many materials as possible, but other than that a regular backpack has more advantages I feel.

But you can put full backpacks in your backpack, so that gives you like 100+ slots right? I don't know if a mod I have lets me do that, and I'm not sure so I don't, because it feels like cheating. Also I only use the teleportato to acquire more gears, in which case I wouldn't have enough stuff to make multiple backpacks/piggies to make it worthwhile.

The Piggyback is good because it's a nice upgrade. To be honest, the speed penalty isn't TERRIBLE. And if you need to run like bawss, you just drop the thing and come back for it later, presuming you live.

You could also use a walking cane or stick to paths

It must make sense without mods. By the way, this mod is disgusting, IMO

You can't do that in the vanilla game. That's one of your mods that lets you do that.

If you have a bigger backpack that will probably weight more than a normal backpack, then it would probably slow you down. So the piggyback works as it it should, it carries more stuff but that means it's heavier so it slows you down.

It's almost a necessity in RoG during the springtime, as it's waterproof.

I don't get it, why is it a necessity? Doesn't wetness of equipped items just lower your sanity a bit? I just use regular backpacks and never had a problem with Spring. I never had any problem with Spring, actually, it just feels like a gentle season where crops grow much faster.

Sure, if by "gentle" you mean "filled with frogs that rain like hellfire on a level similar to Sodom and Gomorrah."

The piggyback/backpack difference relates only to wetness, but in general, while there are frog rains, they seem rare enough.

The world I'm in must be amazingly unlucky. I had frog rains every other day for a couple weeks.

I use a piggyback for two things: storage and harvesting wood. If you keep a tree farm near your camp, it's really useful. But I realized something else too, that someone mentioned here earlier: It doesn't matter if you say it hampers combat ability because ONE DOES NOT WEAR A BACKPACK IN COMBAT. That is my #1 rule, because I have died to tallbirds trying to kite them with no backpack and 50 hp.
