Don't Starve takes place as early as 1970

Recommended Posts

Well, I'm pretty sure I heard somewhere the game was based somewhere in the 1960's, and maybe WX-78 has awesome super cool fututre tech that makes him barf paper to write his depressing robot diaries on and have them voiced and posted on OldTube by ZeFrank!

WAT

When examining papyrus, WX mentions he prefers Dot Matrix paper, a printer that was released in 1979.

So Maxwell and Charlie have been there for at least 62 years.

Thoughts?

This is, most likely, an oversight on the part of developers. However, I've never let oversights kill any sense of canonocity in Fallout games, and I'm not gonna let it here either! I would like to know why Wilson's abode before Maxwell's influence looks so dated, however. He's definitely operating in what could best be described as an early 19th century lab.

Aw man.  Now i'm just thinking Wilson is actually crazy.  Isolating himself from society in an old house in the woods where he just works on old timey mad experiments.

Maybe he was pulled into a time vortex?

That is interesting.  The idea that they could bend time to bring in anyone Maxwell would want to the island.  Odd that WX seems like the only one that could of happened to ... and I would not mind seeing more of that.

We still don't know about most of the backstories at this time so it's all up in the air.

hmm, i always pictured the world being a more late 1800's early 1900's setting, from the cool ghastly crumb tiny's art style like wilsons attire

i figured wx-78 was steampunk, like alot of the "science" stuff

i havent finished the game yet though!

Just because Maxwell is from one time period doesn't mean they all are. He says time flows differently there so it's entirely possible he's jumping into different points of time for his victims.

It would explain how Woodie knows about current things, he's from our period in time.

So Wickerbottom can really be Charlie's sister. Hmm.

um guys in the story puzzles it says that maxwells time period was around 1905 (that was when he was a famous magician)

so it might of been around the 1910's

but as The Letter W said time flows differently there so it might only apply to maxwell

Beat me to it. The orange/brown of his (probably) copper shell just screams Steampunk to me.

Woodie as a late 20th/early 21st century "visitor" to the World created by Maxy from the early 20th century....interesting. I wonder if that means Woodie knows what Cheese Curd and gravy fries are?

Mm.. poutine. Damn it truthseeker, I already wrote down all the Thanksgiving food I'm getting for this year, and you have to go and bring that deliciousness up! Looks like I'll be adding a few new items to the shopping list.

This reply seems to have bacfired as now I want those poutine fries too!

Okay moders, maybe if you add it in game it will help IRL....a little.
