During my most recent playthrough, i've learned that if I act quickly, and if i'm lucky, I can run up to any bird, and strike it dead with a spear while it's in the midddle of the flying away animation(drops and all), essentially leaving me with the perfect early-game food supply. Never been able to make that happen ever before, seriously.

To do it, you have to use the force attack command, pretty much, and if they fly away in a certain direction, there's no catching them.

Was this a simple update that quietly went unnoticed in the release notes recently, or have I found a wonderous, beautiful exploit that I hope never gets fixed? XD

Oh, the days back in beta where you could drop seeds on the ground and auto-attack any bird dumb enough to try and eat it... Whilst wearing a feather hat that never degrades and food that didn't spoil, and Krampus that was easy to summon...  :joyous:

I still do not comprehend the thread title. If they got nerfed, wouldn't that mean they would be less rewarding to kill? Now they just seem to be a bit silly for letting you whack them in mid-air :p

Better title: Has the boomerang been nerfed?

So the actual question (besides the confusing title) is: Have force attacks been made exploitable on birds since that update?

Honestly, never thought of trying force attacking (since that update) on flying animations. I'm sure it can be fixed if not intentional.

GOD CAN YOU MAKE IT ANY MORE OBVIOUS.

There is no such thing as punching birds mid-flight. Everyone can ignore this.

Well, I decided to test it out. It seems the poster was not clear in their description, and the birds *are* kill-able just before flight:

if you attack JUST before the bird takes off (but it won't work on the ground or if in flight,) you kill the bird automatically. So if you move up and kill it at just the right timing, you "auto kill" the bird without any need for seeds, or boomerangs, etc. Assuming you're not weak in combat, this works even with improvised weapons.

If this was not the intent of UI changes since the last update (eg, another torch populates the slot if one burns out now like axes and picks do is an example of an UI change,) then this needs to be reverted to its previous state.

Gotta watch out that the game doesn't get too difficult with the fixing of all these exploits!  :hopelessness: Damn casuals have already done enough in that regard during the beta.

With today's hotifx Sanity Creatures will be immune to tooth traps. I'm making the popcorn ready.
