  1. I saw some pretty elaborate solutions for this in the forum. This seems like a much simpler way. While the door is closed, all the critters in the stable are safe. When the critter sensor detects that you have more critters than you want, then the door opens. When a critter hops into the space under the door, then the critter sensor under the door closes the door and traps the critter. Notice that the water fills the entire space under the door even though there is just a small amount of water. The critter drowns and turns into meat, and the auto-sweeper picks up the meat and sends it on it's way. (I positioned the auto-sweeper so it can reach the meat even when the door is closed.) Here's the automation, it's nothing more than a NOT and an AND. Set the critter sensor in the room to the number you want to keep alive. Set the critter sensor under the door to zero. I didn't try it with flying critters, it seems like it would still work but you may have to wait a long while for something to fly into the trap. Perhaps that issue could be mitigated by making the trap wider (more doors) or using a lure to get one into a small room. EDIT: A vulnerability of this approach is that an egg laid atop the door will fall inside the trap. This makes the whole thing stop working until the egg hatches. Perhaps this can be avoided in most cases by putting tiles above the door.
  2. How to setup an automated Egg dropper - Hatchery - Kill room for meat farming When I was looking around the forums trying to find out this information for myself it was scattered over a bunch of different threads, and a lot of the designs were overly large and complicated as well as being old. so I thought I'd bring it all into one thread with this design I've come up with. It's for fully automated ranching so that you can make BBQ instead of omellettes. Or have a mixture of both. It's 16x4 tiles (the same height as 3 bedrooms stacked on top of each other, so 3 levels of your base) credits to. @Craigjw . for showing me the egg dropper automation. and . @Mullematsch . for the kill room idea. (also if anyone is wondering about the dense puft ranch, I'm very close to finishing the entire thing with seperate fully automated hatchery ranches for each puft variant. Gonna make a thread for it soon. And hopefully it will inspire others to improve on it. Took a break from designing it for a few days because it was giving me a headache. Some of the information in-game about the egg chances is misleading [and annoying]) Larger screenshot of the whole ranch, kill room, kitchen, storage for context. just so you can see how it would fit next to a ranch and kitchen in your base. This is in a sandbox testing colony. You could build it next to any ranch and send eggs into it. (drecko, hatches, etc.) I'm not sure if it kills slicksters though, I think they can survive underwater. Not tested it. There is a sweeper arm inside the ranch sending eggs towards the egg dropper... The sweeper arm inside that room gets turned on for 3 seconds.. and then turned off for 1 second... And this is repeated forever (using the automation logic). So it's enough time to pick up the egg, but not enoguh time to load it, so the egg is dropped and falls through the mesh door into the kill room below. Kill room needs to be out of range so it won't pick the eggs back up. Egg dropper and Kill room Once the doors close at the bottom the hatchery room is flooded and everything dies. The lower sweeper arm moves meat into the central conveyor loader which is sent to the kitchen. Egg shells are sent into the bottom conveyor loader which goes where ever you want that to go. Can be sent to a compost room or rock granulator. I usually compost egg shells for dirt since fossils provide you with more lime than you need (especially now that you don't need to build a space wall to stop the meteors destroying the map). Automation Egg dropper You can move the automation inside the egg dropper room. I just kept it seperate so that it's easy to see. -Filter gate set to 1 second. -Buffer gate set to 3 seconds. Kill room I compacted this one into the small space... -There are 600 seconds in a cycle of the game... -So the filter gates add up to 600 seconds... -The doors close for 90 seconds once per cycle. (just about enough time to drown the critters) -Then open for the remainder 510 seconds. (200s +200s +110s) -Then it repeats. shipping Egg dropper room... -Conveyor receptacle priority is set to 1 (lower than the loader). -Conveyor loader priority is set to 2. -Conveyor loader is set to pick up critter eggs. -Eggs are sent from the ranches into the conveyor receptacle. -The conveyor loader is looped back towards the receptacle using a bridge (not sure if bridge is necassary, it's a visual thing to see it better.) Kill room I think it's self explanatory. -The important thing to note is that it is out of range of the upper sweeper arm (in the egg dropper room) to prevent the eggs being picked back up. -Also the bottom sweeper arm can't put eggs into the loader in the egg dropper room, because of the mesh tile. That mesh tile is important. -Meat is sent into one loader -Egg shells into the other.
  3. So, i've been working on a few worlds lately, and each of them i always end up dieng because i have to constantly scavenge for food and am never able to prepare for anything else, so whenever it rolls around to hound attacks and winter, im completely unprepared, what i'd like to know is how can i consistently gather meat to feed my character for 3-4 days in one day, so i can spend the rest of those days preparing for winter/ making my base etc. -Edit : Reduced whiny-ness by 52%
  4. (Sorry if anybody already posted this. Also you can do this on a normal world just skip the customization part.)So i had a lot of time to mess with the new preset and i set "Pigs" to lots and "Beefalo" to lots to get a lot of meat.1st.You must kill some spiders you may be able to find monster meat if the pigs have done it already you will need the monster meat.2nd.You feed one pig one monster meat if there are beefalo near if not feed all of them one each and bring them to beefalo and click on a beefalo with a spear and while you are walking to it run back and you will not attack them the pigs should hit the beefalo and all the pigs will kill the herd you will find a lot of meat on the ground.3rd.Repeat until you have around 20-100 meat.you should have enough for winter.
  5. (NOTE: SORRY ABOUT MY ENGLISH) Just like i said in the title. This first screenshot was on the day 203. From this moment i didnt took another screenshot until i save and quit to go sleep. I leave my game on day 242. Between these days i did several changes to my base (remove my 4 turbo farms, move my birdcage and my shadow manipulator, build more tents, etc.) but i didnt die so i didnt move or waste my meat effigy (between these days). Btw when i came back to my game i first use my tent because it was dusk when i came back (but i didnt noticed any different in my base yet maybe i just didnt see well) but at the morning this is how my base looks like. 3 FREAKING MEAT EFFIGIES!!! NOTES: [*]My life bar just recognized 1 meat effigy [*]I dont have an activated a touchstone right now [*]They are in the same position of my last 2 meat effigies [*]They are so close to each other, and the third a so close to my rainometer (obviously i cant build right there) What do u think about it? i should post it as a bug or what? Are this is happening to anyone else? (SORRY ABOUT MY ENGLISH again)
  6. I still am a strong proponent for Conversion Darts
  7. I had this idea right now, what if we can get a shovel and dig randomly somewhere in the ground a hole. After some time rabbits come to populate it?
  8. Bug Submission Please choose a category [Performance] Platform ChromeVersion Number 70828 Issue title Save files disappears Steps to reproduce 1)Save game and quit 2)Close Browser 3)Log back in after few days 4)Game resets/save files are gone Describe your issue Playing "Don't Starve" on the chrome; I returned after (rl) several days. I'm sure that I logged in with the correct ID. I pressed "Play", expecting to find the "Continue" button, but then I am greeted by the character roster with only Wilson available. I'm also playing on a Mac so I cannot play the steam version either. I am so sad.
  9. Was thinking about Winter and then saw Kevin's Food Spoilage thread, and it got me thinking. IF you put your food in a chest or of the floor (in winter obviously) it would become frozen (Since it's frozen, then the freshness would be frozen as well) then to eat it would would have to warm it over the fire (It would take some time though to prevent exploitation) The image of something frozen would just be the item then an ice shell around it (thick or thin) Extra things to take note of: > FROZEN COOKED FOOD - is that even edible? > Only Raw Meat items will be frozen? > It wouldn't make sense for vegetables to be frozen. ------------- So.... Discuss:
  10. Yeah, that would be cool, instead of seeing the same pig or and or and or, they could add a new one that is bigger, greedy, more dangerous, and walks slower, and maybe he kills any monsters that get too close to the village. Like some kind of defender/warrior pig.
  11. Welcome! Did you log in with a different email then the one you bought the game with?
  12. I was playing today and yesterday after a few break for a few days and as I place down my normal everyday trap I notice something strange. When I bait the normal trap with seeds birds fly into them. This just makes me wonder what is the point making the bird trap at all if the normal trap being baited with seeds causes them to fly into it and be trapped. Also it seems odd that I'm getting so much normal uncooked meat from a bird. Getting the feathers I understanding but when I think a bird I think a tiny amount of meat on them considering there birds and not rabbits or something larger. I don't know if its intentional that a normal trap baited with seeds is just as effective too capture birds as doing it with a separate bird trap, but I thought it should be mentioned. As well as fixing it to where if birds do drop meat after collecting them beyond just for their feathers why not make it smaller chunks that give very little food meter replenishment or requires catching multiple birds to combine together as kinda of a side bonus and making it extra worth our whiles to catch birds for more then just feathers. Maybe something reasonable like 4 pieces of bird meat can then be turned into a large meat or if cooked in the pot with some other bird items like, gobbler leg, tall-bird egg and some seeds some special recipe. As I said I don't know if this was intentional since I've read the patch notes and didn't see anything really say that normal traps can now lure and catch birds. If it is it seems silly to have bird traps at all and that still give you large pieces of meat like you'd get from a rabbit. I hope to get a response Soon to know if this was helpful information or not. Otherwise I bloody love the game and currently on day 25 with a few boxes my first meat effigy and a nice bee box.
