Swamp Reed Tentacle Trap

Seems you have to take out the tentacles one at a time if you can isolate one if you don't have the above posted resources. Just not worth it (but the sanity loss from the One Man Band would be less than the melee kiting loss if you didn't have ranged weapons for the tentacles.)

I've cleared it by building pig houses along the perimeter. They get slaughtered in the beginning but as the number of pig houses increases and the damage starts to build up on the tentacles they can clear it out in a couple seasons. Sadly I was attacked by hounds near the reeds and a fire hound burned 90% of them...I have a new world now with 10 pig houses set up as well as a lightning rod and I won't be fighting hounds in the summer anywhere near it this time.

I found this to be a great meat/spike farm. Every 4-5 days I would head to the swamp, watch the fight and collect all the meat and pig skin and a couple spikes. Use the pig skin to build more pig houses and hammer down any pig houses I see while exploring for more materials to make the process quicker.

You will want plenty of dry racks to utilize all this meat without spoiling.

Or do it scientifically - gunpowder charges, while your "allies" (pigs, beefs, spiders, whatever) keep tentacles busy. Remember, tentacles doesn't have AOE attacks, despite it looking liek one - if they're hitting one pig, you can safely stand even at point blank (just watch timing).

This if you don't take about reeds, of course.

Cleared most of them before they did the new attack mechanics / keybindings and wasn't really hard just took patience (melee with wendy, w/o abigail since she tends to pull more than 1 tentacle at a time and also messes up their attack times).

Was literally going to reeds trap once every couple days (between dog attacks, especially in summer) and kill couple tentacles :)

Then when I cleared like 90% of the trap - only 1 patch of 3-4 tentacles was left, winter ended, and I miscalculated dogs arrival. Dusk, summer start, fire dogs inc, no abigail, so I said yay perfect time to get rid of last tentacles and most of the dogs. Obviously 1 fire dog explosion was enough to set on fire whole batch of reeds. Oh well, won't happen again in next world! :D

PS: even without the trap, I still have ~40 reeds in my huge swamp - which is also almost cleared of enemy entities - except one portion to south with several spider 3 dens, tentacles and merms (only 4 reeds in that area, and I just put on a spider queen hat if I have to pick those up as well) :)

Funny, I was going to make a topic about this also. I was thinking of placing spider nests all around, but that would take weeks and its pretty high risk to have so many dens in one small area. After reading this thread Im gonna go with lureplants (gasp - they have a use?) and see how that goes. They would be easier to get rid of after all the tentacles are exterminated.

Deerclops might have some merit.. I have no idea who would actually come out on top in that fight. Tentacles would have a numbers advantage against its large radius, but 'clops has a 360 degree swing advantage.

Somebody please make a video doing this! I would love to see the results! I never get Deerclops close to a swamp (let alone a swamp with this set-piece) when he spawns. He's always on the entirely opposite side of the map where a swamp is *grumbles*

I think it's easier to lure treeguards if you're planning to let someone else do the fight for you.I mean, they spawn anytime and you will be able to get some killed before cleaning out the entire area.

lureplants (gasp - they have a use?)

Beside slowly cleaning spider dens/tallforts/beefalo herds/almost everything,in fact? You can use them to make a fancy leafy meat farm.
