please, please, _please_ tell us the dynamic camera can be turned off? i was getting super nauseous by the end of the trailer and unless the game can be run at 16fps i feel this will be well outside of accessible for me

I hope the biomes will be dependent on its inhabitants and plants and so on that if conditions change by survivors or by disasters the foodchain will break as well. That would be the most interesting. But simply environmental conditions and terran mattering is perfect as well!

Actually yes that would be a good thing. Reminds me how a friend of mine could only play flat 2D games from motion sickness. So yes there should be a manual way to turn the cameras.

It will be Lua.  Same kind of entity component system.  I can't imagine that it will be very different from DST.  And if Klei sees how creative and massively creative their fans are, they will have planned to make the transition easy.

yup, and i am unfortunately of the vims variety. the only 3d-space games i can play have fixed cameras or settings where you can force-fix it.

To whoever did the animated bits in the trailer, you did a very good job.  They're very sexy.  My favorite scene was where Willow was waving the lighter.

For a time I was daydreaming on what Don't Starve would look like with dynamic shadows.  I know now.  It is fitting the artstyle which is the lovechild of Don't Starve and Cult of the Lamb.  The water surface animation looks good too.

I'm guessing that the sprite system has become more advanced because the characters faces and hair and arms are lit in the direction of light.  That's going to give modders an extra plateful.

I'm excited.  So very excited.

If you missed it, we also just officially announced Don't Starve Elsewhere during the Triple-i Initiative Showcase. Check that out below!

On what game engine is this game made on? I'm guessing Unity?

I'm hoping so as well. A friend of mine genuinely can't watch the trailer because of it.

Do not EVER play Lego Batman 3 or Dead Space. I am warning you for your own health. But also yes.. I too hope I can “Lock” camera angles, because I never use the rotate camera bumper buttons as is in DST. If it’s Similar to Cassette Beasts where the camera auto adjusts itself, it won’t be too terribly bad. If it’s like Lego Batman 3’s Lantern Hub Worlds… we all gonna be nauseous.

Elsewhere looks really cool, like a full DST sequel (which is essentially the Don't Starve sequel at this point).

The gothic architecture vibes kind of remind me of Hamlet. I hope Walani and Wilba can make the cut. :wilson_love:

Oh, looks cool!

Anyways, people shouldn't worry and doompost much about DST, it's most likely not going anywhere for the foreseeable future.

It's the biggest live-service game that Klei has to the best of my knowledge. It's just not logical from a business standpoint to drop it from a gamble with a new Don't Starve Game. It makes more sense to hire more people to work exclusively on Elsewhere.

If Elsewhere ends up consuming the DST audience and DST starts seeing a sharp decline in playerbase, that is when you should worry about the game's future... Until then, DST is probably here to stay.

None, I'd guess. Just coded from scratch on C with Lua as support or something... Or maybe everything being done on Lua. I think DST might be entirely on Lua? Not sure.

You can generally make things run more efficiently like that, so lower hardware requirements and stuff, which is nice for indie games~

That definitely DOES NOT look like DS, DSTs C engine. Advanced shading, 3D enviroment with verticality.

I'd quicker believe it's Unity than C. And Klei team is experienced with Unity too.

But I'd rather one of the devs answer my question instead speculating.

I will do ANYTHING to play this IMMEDIATELY

It looks like if Dont Starve Together mixed the Gothic Victorian of the Gorge and the Coastal Shores and Waters of Shipwreck.and the semi Urbanization of Hamlet

Hamlet was may favorite DLC, The Gorge was my favorite event. THIS IS GONNA BE AMAZING

It'd still be Lua, but with long overdue updated environment changes. I'm assuming current mods would require a few adjustments instead of full rewrites, similar to DS -> DST porting. We don't have the details so here's hoping Klei mentions it in the roadmap!

OMG!!!!!!the design of this multi‑layer world and the lighting are just amazing... I can't wait to buy it!!!( ゚д゚)つ💰

Also I noticed that the art style of the characters and various items isn't really consistent — especially the in‑game character models.

They're kind of lost their identity…I can barely recognize Wilson tbh.

I wonder if that's gonna get polished later...

拜托拜托,一定要告诉我们动态镜头可以关掉啊?预告片结尾我看得都快晕了,除非游戏能以16帧运行,否则我觉得这游戏对我来说根本玩不了。

Yeah, same here. That dynamic camera makes me pretty dizzy too. I watched the trailer a few times and my head started hurting. A toggle option would be perfect...

I think it's completely fine... Headaches are rough... I'm sure Klei will fix it.

After watching the trailer for Don’t Starve: Elsewhere, I’m excited about its new biomes, terrain, mechanics, creatures, and challenges. However, I also have serious concerns.
First, DST already receives slow updates. The new game will likely further delay or even halt major content updates for DST, much like what happened to DS.
Second, DST has many characters, items, and skins obtained through purchases, and the new game is expected to use the same skin-based monetization. After ten years of DST, has Klei considered the future of DST’s in-game purchases and its loyal players?
If DSE is released as a separate game, I hope most DST items, tools, and skins can be transferred to it. For any removed items, their skins should be converted into new content in DSE as compensation. DST’s existing items can have adjusted recipes, crafting stations, or visuals to fit DSE.

It looks like Unity - you can make things look unity-eque quite easy though. But I believe so.
