Happy New Year everyone!

Starting off with some bug fixes, which should make it to console shortly as well.  I also wanted to mention that we are looking into Crystal-Crested Buzzards balancing, but that will not be part of this hotfix.

Changes

  • Added World Generation and World Setting regrowth options for Boulderboughs.
  • Evergreen Regrowth, Twiggy Tree Regrowth and Reeds Regrowth settings are available in Caves World Settings.
  • Dried Forget-Me-Lots can be used in place of regular Forget-Me-Lots for Beefalo Treats.
  • Giant Whirlpool’s map icon now shows only when the Whirlpool is open (i.e. Caves is connected).

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed regrowth of Boulderboughs in retrofitted worlds.
  • Fixed rare case of worlds being unable to save due to Bearger spawn timer being 0.
  • Fixed possible crashes when hammering down burnt Jubilantern Posts or Light Posts connected to a burnt Tea Shop.
  • Fixed an issue where Pearl’s decoration scoring did not activate if her house was relocated before upgrading.
  • Fixed bug with Pearl’s Umbrella behaviour not accounting for head slot, such as Eyebrella.
  • Fixed bug causing Pearl to sometimes change facing while fishing.
  • Fixed bug causing Pearl to try feeding unreachable critters.
  • Fixed bug causing Pearl to try investigating Lureplants that are not within her range.
  • Fixed bug preventing Lureplants from spawning in some biomes.
  • Fixed bug where Tea was removed when fed to another player, even if it was not emptied.
  • Fixed bug where Wolfgang did not gain mightiness when clearing Lunar Hail buildup.
  • Fixed bugs with Knabsack damage not updating correctly when number of Souls changes in Soul Jars.
  • Fixed all characters being able to use character specific items like Abigail's Flower.
  • Fixed possible corrupt save data sometimes when Wendy is interacting with Pipspook.
  • Fixed a crash with Webber’s Bedazzle and Webby Whistle effects when a Spider corpse is in the area.
  • Fixed a crash when a Shattered Spider spawns out of a Sea Strider Nest.
  • Fixed corpses not dropping Winter Feast’s Loots.
  • Various animation and Scrapbook fixes.

Buzzards are in a peculiar spot where they have the potential to be really cool, but I feel like their execution is more so the problem than their actual power or difficulty. As someone who plays late game DST, the surface world is basically an apocalyptic land that punishes you for existing- with giant swarms of buzzards coming in every 5-10 days on you no matter what.

This reminds me of the hound re balance where the waves were spread out more but made more significant, in order to give players breathing room in their end game world without getting hound waves every 5-10 days. Perhaps the same could be done here where buzzard swarms are more of a world event than a passive thing that happens in your world, in order to space them out and give breathing room, while still allowing them to be a significant threat

I'm not saying use that system exactly, but allowing the players more down time, or the ability to be proactive about the threats before they get out of control is a plus.

people who like how the buzzard works rn, i have one question.

how do u manage to keep boss loot intact with this buzzard? im okay with them mutating mobs but why its eating my dragonfly gems:mad-new:  i cant seem to do anything and they just keep coming from the sky XD

I exterminate them immediately when they appear. After doing so, they take a long time to return, giving me time to defeat a boss peacefully.

The only problem would be if they appeared at the exact moment I was fighting a boss. For this reason, I think they should have a spawn alert mechanism similar to that of Hounds, Deerclops, Beager, Depths Worms, and Great Depths Worms.
 


There could be a giant shadow hovering over the players as a warning (similar to BFB from Hamlet).

As soon as I eliminate the Crystal-Crested Buzzards, a new group appears a few minutes later. It's not a problem in itself, but it would be better if it were something like hounds (just one group). In practice, I end up with an extra spider in my inventory roaming the map waiting for these mobs to spawn again.

sadly they spawn right before the boss defeated 
tried to kill them when they munching on DF corpse and left me with 1 gem for some variation

The good news is that we now have an official statement about a possible balancing of them. I think small adjustments would already solve the problems of destroying buildings or with boss loot. Eliminating them in a planned way (as in the video) is quite easy and quick. We just have to wait and see what the devs are about to implement and hope it doesn't make the Crystal-Crested Buzzards trivial.

Besides balancing lunar buzzards, could you also consider adding despawning after 5 (or more) days for mutated birds from lunar storm and lunar hail?
It's currently a bit annoying that they stay in the world forever. This means you have to look for them every lunar hail to see where they've spawned in order to kill them.

And one more thing about lunar buzzards. 
They don't currently eat plant-based creatures. The exceptions are grassgators and grass gekkos. Which is weird a bit. 
I think they shouldn't eat them either. 
They also don't eat small insect creatures. But maybe they couldn't eat every insect creatures? Like the Bee Queen and her minions.

I think balancing on buzzards is on how you balance the enemies that constantly come to you like hounds and bosses.

Rethink on variety to how hound attacks work, do buzzards as supportive enemies or something that would infest a biome like spiders do.

A biome could also get infested with lunar blight and new enemies like that, essentially creating that biome into a sort of a "enemy camp" to deal with, creating a way to create danger as well as well.

Generally need work on lategame world

after this update the game is not opening anymore in my arch/linux wayland, click play in steam, the button change to stop and return to play...
No error, no game screen, nothing. Reinstaling the game dont work, verify integrity in steam dont resolved. What can i do?
