  4. 4. Obligatory "Are you a megabaser?" question for all the people who have thus far scoffed at the previous three questions thinking "hah the whole world is my base nothing could possibly apply"

    • No.
  5. 5. Do you think new biomes should be added to the game as part of new update content?

"Near largest cluster of Wobster Dens that also hopefully is near a Pond"

Summer Shade with it being coastline with the Above-Average Tree. Wobsters are literally free food for 0 effort at night. A nearby Pond for replenishing my Watering Can.

It's perfect. Objectively perfect.

my base is a mystery to everyone including me! i generally pick a spot that is as close to as many things as possible

i knew i forgot an option nnfhgnhnhnh how could i forget this tenet a puma vid taught me this

edit: i've decided not to add this to the poll due to a.) laziness, b.) the 20 question choice limit, c.) i'm orienting the poll towards biomes and generalized landmarks that bases arise in but i'll try to followup with another poll on basing strategies (i have too much free time)

Megabasing doesn't necessarily mean basing across the whole entire world, just having a big one that prioritizes aesthetics over pure function. So I can't really answer the poll accurately since it implies that being a megabaser and having a specific part of the map you want to base in are mutually exclusive. I'm a big fan of the lunar island though, both for its functions (no insanity, no giants, extra resources from hounds, etc) and because it makes for a nice large yet still manageable space to renovate and build something nice on.

you having free time is a benefit to the rest of us!

No muddy biome option for a cave base? Or am I blind? Wilds technically doesn't qualify, it's where lichen and nightmare fissures already are. "Near Toadstool" technically could be in the muddy biome but it doesn't have to be, and one can base in muddy but not necessarily near toad.

I generally base near at least 2 good wormholes and a river/shore for knobby trees. If I can access [Pig Kin deciduous/ any of the two deserts/ Lunar Island shore] then I'd consider it a good wormhole. Anywhere that has tree regrowth is annoying though. If it fits I'd choose the rocky biome any time.

I classed muddy biome into wilds as well thanks for the catch

It's a big difference. Base in a safe area with abundance of light bulbs and glowberries, or in a nightmare hell with respawning depth worms and slurpers? I've seen bases in the wilds but it's usually still on the edge of the muddy biome technically.

there's also the fissures now that you mention which get worse in rift content

Best base location for anyone imo is mandrake forest due to resource abundance and access. Nobody thinks about it but there's lots of spiders, food, wood and future tons of stone since that biome often generates huge regardless of world. Also beefalos! Literally a bundle of future resources.

I'm surprised that a lot of people base at pig king. I get the use of gold but there's nothing much there besides easy cat meat or shrooms I guess.

if you aren't a monster char there is the benefit of pigs for accidental hounds and for easy skins. it is way cheaper to use an existing cluster of pighouses than make new ones and there is a road for fast-traveling(at least part of the way) to other things. it is also a "landmark" place; something an experienced player can more-or-less find blind

I guess? It's more to the future investment I'd not ever anymore think about pig king as good base location. There's just too many negatives for me there besides making life maybe a little easier for a little while before losing value. Ever since after I kinda hate Pig King and Oasis for base locations, and other factors. Also me who doesn't play with roads in order to have more organized roads and agency over them in the world.

If it were for public servers I’d say you’ll find it 45% of the times at oasis, 45% of the times at pig king, and the remaining 10% are bases at spawn (and boy those are burned fast)

It’s ironic since most of the times the oasis wildfire protection never gets to be used, as most survival public servers reset mid winter or early spring.

which is fine and valid. just saying what i've seen ^^

Most often if I play on public I choose most best looking locations over specific ones. Living near water been a nice life changer since all the ocean updates.

But you're right on the choices people make there, weirdly specific locations. Very rarely to see cave bases if ever, one server I join someone usually makes an atrium base.

I chose generic cool spots, but it really comes down to world gen. I've seen terrible portal spots to base, and I've seen great swamp spots to base. Whatever is the most flexible or interesting spot on the map is generally where I go.

I do love my challenge bases though, I'm most proud of my Pearl base I made after the Ocean QoL update came out.

I currently play at a wilderness world where every time somebody dies they have to pick a random character. We have a rule that every character has their own base, so most of the time death means we need to start building from scratch in a new location, sometimes we return to one of our old bases. It's a pretty old server, so we have almost 10 camps now, and at this point I really no longer have a specific spot where I want to build my base...

There is nothing dangerous or annoying there and much space (or easy to make space, as the forest isn't that dense). And: it just looks nice because of the turf and the colored trees - everything you build there looks automatically nice even without the need of changing the turf. The whole biome feels so calming.

For me the base doesn't have to be direct to the Pig King. More important is close to a good Worm Hole, a Sinkhole and to other good biomes.

The best base location is one that is near the most immovable resources that you care about. There isn't a specific biome or set piece that you should automatically build at as soon as you see it. Although if I had to pick one of those, I would do the moonstone, since that's a huge light source that's permanently on.

These ones are also pretty fun:
