Is anyone else getting Mimics on the surface ?

Is this new ? Was it always the case and I only noticed now ? My friend """"storage room"""" started to make some pretty unusual sounds at night and I noticed many duplicated items tossed around. They were full of mimics, ON THE SURFACE.

Not sure how I feel about this considering I tend to leave stuff on the floor either for decoration or handiness, thing that I stopped doing in the caves because of the Mimics... but I can see this being fun too, I'm intrigued at best.

If this means rifts can affect the other shard, even just a little, it can mean some of the lunar stuff could affect the caves as well in a future update which would be cool. I wouldn't be surprised if the lunar grotto gets affected by lunar rifts at some point, would make getting the spark arc more interesting.

I always wanted some surface mimics, as thats where everyone tends to leave all their stuff lying around as its easier than putting it in a chest, so its great for there to be a creature that "punishes" taking the easy way, but in a fun and rather harmless way as leaving items out is a normal part of gameplay

Hey, Instead of making Mimics caves exclusive, how about we finally take a look into the tool storage problem.

I would be more than happy if they keep the mimics, and make it so we could store tools and clothing in Wardrobes.

i hope that will stop existing, will be realy annoying to deal with, i mean it makes not even any sense at all why they are on the overworld

Why not? You bust open a cave hole, bats pour out onto the surface. Pretty sure it makes plenty of sense.

And personally since this mob doesn’t like actively try to kill you or anything, it’s significantly less dangerous then say trying to play as Webber and take a casual stroll through a Pigman Village.

I think it should be an Early game mob that isn’t tied exclusively to opening Rifts, while having a Stronger Variation that WILL try to kill you more often once Rifts are active and they’re at their full power.

perhaps they can even “limit” what it can mimic for Early game or something.

Because even though I can’t play in beta stages, if you want my personal opinion for far too long Klei has been doing character reworks and skill trees that added new abilities and content onto the cast of playable characters, but the game world around them has mostly gone unchanged, up till recentish.

difference between a bat and a small blob.....one can fly and is not limited into its movement

i never said it sould kill or be dangerous, i said its ANNOYING, something that adds no value for the game at all and only exist to waste your time....  "MHUH CHaLLanGe...UNcomProMiSe" no...difference between something being a challange and something being annoying people need to learn the difference

if it was early game thing then its even more annoying and actualy you know....not balanced, ever think about new people? they goin to play for the first time and suddenly the things they made are all weird and confusing, thats just not how good game design works

difference between a character rework and skill tree and the world is that there 2 way differend things, one does not have to change because of the other, that would be stupid goin into circles endlessly, and the "changes" of randomly time wasting has nothing to do with the characters, nothing, because again, there 2 way differend things, one does not need to change because the other does so, never

You guys never get tired of this huh? Anyway things don't always have to add value in the sense of gimme gimme gimme it can be fun to experience gimmicks without the game having to give you something for every step you take.

I feel like new people would have the most fun with it playing pranks on their friends.

Apparently when they adjusted the ways thralls spawn so they spawn regardless of the thrall “variant”, it accidently impacted the Lunar rifts, as those are a rift type as well and they accidentally got it. This for some reason is a lot funnier to me then it should be…

But yeah, this is 100% a bug, and I imagine will be fixed by the next patch.

stuff without value is bloat
and new people probably cant prank if they dont even know why things happen and how to do so anyways

Huh, thanks, good to know. In a way that could have been fun having them go out of the caves post shadow rift activation. I wasn't especially annoying by it, yet : )

Long ago when it was said that From Beyond that there would be three phases of updates one for surface, one for caves and one when both powers would interact with eachother. To be honest it wouldn't be so strange when some features from caves started seeping to the surface. So maybe if that is a bug it could be considered being made into a feature with lower intensity if necessary.

A mimic "invasion" in caves AND surface once you unplug the caves would be my choice if I could make one.

I am looking forward for this third phase in case it EVER truly gets implented. Let the apocalypse begin? (one day? Hopefully?)

I mean I’ve been playing games since I was probably maybe 1 and half years old, I recognize what would be “fun” not just for myself, but ultimately for my entire family and my group of friends. I never take my own ideas of fun as being what is fun for everyone because the truth is- my sisters Dyslexic and can’t read so the SUPER obscure confusing stuff in DST should probably maybe be easier to understand what’s going on without needing to do a ton of reading? My dad is disabled and has slower reaction and movement in his hands so if a boss fight is literally not doable for him, we skip it.

Ive had to stop playing games I was really enjoying just because my dad wasn’t able to fight off particular enemy types (like wiggling joysticks or rapidly mashing X)

I have some friends who only play DST with all threats turned off and the season locked to only autumn and yet they still manage to die of starvation with an inventory full of Birchnuts cause I don’t think they know they can cook and eat those as food.

Anyway the point is- I look at things as what’s “Fun” for everyone.

Just like the giant cave worm, it is intentionally designed to do a lot of damage and be very difficult, especially for new players… but if you could drastically tone down its damage or destruction, it would actually be an IMPROVEMENT for those struggling players, because instead of trying to fight off waves of 9+ worms attacking all at once, you only got this big one to deal with.

Forget about how interacting with this thing works in the “Beta” that’s not important, what’s important is depending on how it’s Tuned, it can make things easier or harder.

For example: Acid Rain is coded to buff depth Worms..

Sooo long story short, Big Worm Weaker & Not as Aggressive when Rifts/Acid Rain is off. Big Worm ANGRY rage & smash when being boosted by Acid.

Mimics are actually a VERY common super super early game mob type in Any RogueLite you can possibly name, they duplicate items, they disguise themselves as storage boxes etc, there so common place in other game franchises that I’m sure people will be extremely extremely familiar with how they work in DST.

Even freaking Fortnite has had mimic mobs at some point.

And that’s why I push for it to be made an early game Pre-rift mob.

Maybe the mimic invasion could be made optional. I mean most of my suggestions as optional, obviously since not everyone is so enthusiastic of dying or getting annoyed by silly things in this game like me xD

New people don't stay new eternally and not knowing how things are initially is the premise of the series is it not? Do you play because of what you can get or because your having fun? If your having fun is that not value?

the mimic adds some life and character to the world it tells the player the world will try to decieve you as well not just beat you and I feel like the game could use more of that.

Thanks for the input Mike, Have you developed a game before?

Yeah but so was Minecrafts Creeper, and that went on to be the most memorable thing about Minecraft.

I wouldn't say these are similiar, since creepers were never really a bug, unlike this.
The model's creation was an error. The behaviour was purposefully implemented after that.

and thats a good thing, because that sould not appear in the overworld, especialy early game

Just keep your sanity levels up and sanity related creatures (which this should be) won’t ever be a problem..?

Currently, they’re tied to opening Rifts, so they’re NOT early game.
