Please rollback player upward attack animation

Recommended Posts

I understand some people think it the same as the pick up sound change, but to me it's an objective downgrade.

The animation looks so goofy, and if you compare it to the other attack animations from other perspectives it doesn't look like the same swing at all! It actually looks more like you're swinging the weapon RIGHT instead of in front of your character! A perfectly serviceable animation was changed to one that not only sticks out but also actually lowers vision clarity by being similar to another animation!!! It's terrible and if not completely undone, drastically reduce the exaggerated swing so it's clear when you're attacking to the right and in the front.

You're not alone dude. I not only think it's terrible I hate it, unfortunately most people seem to be indifferent on the forums to the change so there's not a lot of outcry and that means Klei is not going to roll it back because they only care when there are lots of multiple hot posts from lots of people complaining like when the dumb floating head thing was added but this time we won't even get an option to use the good animation.

It might be funny and sound unbelievable, but this change to the attack animation is like the straw that's breaking the camel's back for me. Lots of DST updates I've been disinterested in and now there are changes like this which actively are ruining my immersion in the game too it's starting to make me just feel sad that with each update for me it feels like the game's progressively getting worse and Klei doesn't even give the option to use different versions of the game with the Steam beta mechanic as I would prefer to use older versions (probably the one before Wilson got a rework so there is no character skills or scrapbook) of the game that I liked everything in it ugh

I don't have any opinions on it i dont care if it gets changed or not, but i am not sure why it was changed in the first place, its kinda random. Though it looks bad on Wendy it glitches her hair.

I remember when they temporarly made hats not fly off your head when you jump and stuff. Didnt know it was temporary and it made my brain explode.

I think I remember that too. I wish they wouldn't "fix" things that don't need fixing. They should just fix bugs like the old attack animation had some snapping problems with hair but that didn't warrant completely remaking it it just warranted a fix.

I think it's a big improvement myself. The new animation is better aligned with the player's hitbox, as demonstrated here:

the player has no hit box tho, it simply hits the target if it's in range, it could even teleport behind you and get hit if it'll be within your melee attack range

I wouldn't mind if certain weapons had certain attack animations period, it is funny that we don't jab with the spear but rather smack stuff over the head like its a mace or something.

If anything this could have been a nice animation for things like the brightshade sword or darkswords, I think new animations are cool... when they fit on the weapon of course.

The new attack animations are much more satisfying and I prefer them a lot. The old ones are goofy in a way that fit vanilla DS very well, but we're 11 years out and the game's combat has expanded a lot with so many new bosses and weapons to fight them with, it makes a lot of sense to me they'd want the basic action of attacking to have a less wonky animation.

The funniest thing of the new animation is that the character chop up and down when you view from the side and chop from side to side when you view from the front. The character changes the action as soon as you change the perspective.

This comparison just reinforces my view that the new animation is objectively worse.

Original animations clearly made better use of DS character bones and shapeshifting, with legs, bodies, head weapons and arms all having a sense of power. The new animation, by contrast, is nothing more than a puppet holding a broken windshield wiper.

Yeah, like you can definitely see how wrong Wilson's right arm was in the new animation compared to the old one.

With the old one you can see the motion of his right arm went rather fluidly. The new one? So snappy, so jarring. Ugh.

totally agree. had this concern since beta, surprised they actually WENT with this animation... genuinely wtf

the one before was so exaggerated and goofy in a good way, shows that the character is swinging DOWN with the force of gravity instead of up and to the side AGAINST gravity.

there are certain rules in animation not to be broken...

never even notice the weird head tilt the new animation has... so they're TRYING to make the animation more awkward? cuz that is intentional, you dont just add a weird one like that by accident

Isn’t the new attack animation the same one used in NewHome?

I don’t want to jump to conclusions here but with DST being officially announced as coming to Netflix Mobile games.. there is a slight possibility that the NewHome Animation is easier to code for Mobile devices then the original animation

But… DS RoG and DS SW also already exist on mobile and use the old animation so, maybe it’s just something for less laggy/more fluid multiplayer? I dunno.
