ALLELUIJAH

WE FINALLY HAVE AN INSULATED PACK SKIN WOOOOOOOO. It's incredible nobody even noticed it and said something.

Spoiler

I don't like it very much. It's not a good skin, still better than nothing xD

I love it :/

I really like it too, it’s “simplistic”, but in a way that I think is very pleasing. It’s the skin I personally use now for my main backpack now (thank you reskin backpack mods!).

I mean, nobody uses this item lol

I see people using this item (although I dont use it myself)

I mean, I started seeing this item after the buff in slots, before it I had never seen anyone using it or crafting

I'm shocked that many are responding with "Who use it, lol" or "Never used". I'm curious, it is because some of you use a beefalo so you can bring the piggyback? Or because you rush krampus farms + Klaus so you obtain the krampus backpack? Or because well.....rifts? Because if you don't like beefalo and don't rush with the game and take your time (which is a large chunk of the playerbase) the insulated pack is literally a direct upgrade to the normal backpack for the time being, before switching with the krampus sack. There are like no malus or choice to be made if you want to craft it, when you have your first bearger dead. The piggyback, if you don't go with the beefalo strat, suffers from a big underpowered and unbalance state where it's almost never preferable to craft it.

Btw @Wormboi the item can't be popular during 2018-2020. I don't get why you choose that arbitrary timelaps but it can't be during those years because it was unbalanced before. If I'm correct, it received the change on 2021, thus the items is popular 2021-now

I already start to domesticate beefalo in the early days of the world. So I use the piggyback without even worrying about getting the Krampus Sack.

Going to the ruins with a piggyback is a huge advantage. Basic backpack, I don't even use it for 10 days of play.

I prefer the pig backpack.

A fellow Piggyback enjoyer!

I use to use this item a lot, and still do if I play Warly, everyone else though, nah Piggyback 4 Life (until Klaus decides that 10% happens)

10% reduced movespeed really is not that big of a deal. Even if you don't use a beefalo (I hate beefalo so much) you still get a net 15% move speed boost from the cane with the backpack.

The insulated pack is not too bad as a regular backpack replacement , since its all upsides and no downside compared to it (specially being fireproof) but, I think Warly players are the ones that get the most of this item during pre rift times.

Most non-Warly players I know, myself included, will go Piggyback (unless pigs are extinct and pig skin is long gone in pub games)
I like the new skin though.

I can back this up, every time I play Warly I love finding the thick fur in the klaus sack. Its especially great for how me and my friends play, usually one person is the loot pack mule and I end up taking care of food/healing/materials, its a really fun way to play. Also way back when, I wasn't so good at managing foodstuffs for expeditions and this helped with some of the pains around that, my training wheels for foodstuffs I suppose.

later in the game this takes more of a backseat due to new items but, I don't mind it. Hopefully with the Warly tree, he receives something (beyond new recipes and spices, those would be wonderful) that could create specific interactions around food preservation. Probably not that important though... there are so many good ways to keep on top of food as Warly, I just hope that he gets perks unique to him.

People always complain about swap characters when the issue is not that a characters perks can be taken advantage of when they are not present, but rather there feels like not a lot of reason to continue playing the character, characters can share and help out, but they need to feel special in their own ways and have ways that they grow and progress through a session. Obviously some characters show off this progression based growth, Wx and circuits, wormwood and mushroom planters/farms/lunar content, Maxwells hunger for better shadow gear, Webbers quest to befriend all spiders, Wurt in general and Winona's builder aesthetic combined with the ability to make teleportation networks or boss mulchers/farms.

Sorry to derail a bit, but I guess I got a little energetic about that. I like that we have items like the insulated pack, they make for more appealing and fun ways to approach the game, same goes for characters. (I know that people will say "nobody uses this item", but that is obviously a gross exaggeration of the fact they don't play with people who use it or just choose not to use it themselves)

I often use beefalo plus piggyback, so insulated backpack feels like a downgrade to me. It's sadly also completely irrelevant after getting bundling wraps, and is completely obsolete after getting a bearger bin. Usually by the time I get the tail to craft this backpack I either save it for the bin, or plan on getting bundling wrap soon, or just don't struggle with food spoilage anyway (salt boxes and fridges exist, also food is easy to get anyway).

I think it might be a neat item if you use seasonal fish for temperature control but you can also just get more fish and swap it more often. Any other live creature you want to keep alive in your inv can be fed to keep fresh so it doesn't feel like this backpack is worth it just to use it to slow down creature spoilage. I do use one for fishing in the Oasis in my megabase though. I like to bundle fish I get the from the lake while it's still alive, for future Wurt crafts.

Is useful to cook, more if you are using fast spoiling ingredients like avocado or raw barnacles

Yeaah i also use it when batch cooking  and funnily enough one of the main dishes i make when i get to this point in the game is barnacle linguine with avocados

ive never used it for anything else though. I like beefalos so i can always use piggyback with no worries and the survivors i play most can/want to kill BQ early so that takes care of food preservation.

The skin is really nice though. As are all the skins in the cottage and garden bundles. They suit Wickerbottom in particular really well i think.

The bonus for this backpack is a bit pointless, as you just need to activate this in the world on the first day of the game:

Gift_Wrap_Dropped.webp

If Klei upgraded it to 12 slots, it would make much more sense to use it from my point of view.

Because it would be better than piggyback and worse than Krampus Sack.
