Would you pay for a *higher than elegant* tier skin for Maxwell and Winona that makes them Charlie and Wagstaff respectively?

Would you spend money on skins like this?

I know some people have wanted playable Charlie and Wagstaff in DST for a while, but as of right now, it really doesn't seem likely that they would be added as their own character. There is too much overlap with other characters in what they could offer, gameplaywise. However, in other post I half jokingly mentioned a Wagstaff/Charlie skins for Winona/Maxwell, but it got me thinking. What if that actually happened.

What if they made a head/base skin tier above Elegant, that would change the character to someone else entirely while keeping the kit. The instrument, examine quotes, and idle animation would all be different, but the kit would be the exact same as the original character. This could be on par with "legendary" skins from other games, that change voice and animations, etc. It sounds like people would either love or hate the idea, so I wanted some feedback on it. I want to see how many people would spend money and if it would even be worth klei to consider since I imagine this would require a lot of work on their end

Wilson fits more with Wagstaff tbh

I'm not really talking about looks and more just kit. Wagstaff is always building contraptions and such, while Wilson has the beard and torches, neither of which I associate with Wagstaff. Wilson does have the scientific examines, but the examine quotes would be different as mentioned in the post

in case of wagstaff and winona ig, but idk how'd charlie be similar in comparison to maxwell, she doesn't have spells and books

I'd buy Charlie skin for Maxwell. Idk, does she have a voice sound? I'd like to hear it. Unlike Wagstaff =)

Also, i'd buy all skins for Wormwood, if i was able to see them behind all that headgear.
At the moment i haven't even crafted any skin from spools, not to mention buying for money. And i play WW quite a lot.

It's a quirky, funny idea to transform Maxwell or Wilson (I also think it fits Wilson better......I even confused Wagstaff for an elder Wilson when I first saw him!) into Charlie / Wagstaff. I personally wouldn't buy it though since skins for the standard characters have no use for my way of playing the game.

I'm sorry I didn't see this earlier. In that case, yes Winona's "kit" does indeed feel more fitting for the Wagstaff skin.

I'd buy "Alternative Characters" skins. Give me a Aristocrat like classy old dude skin over Wickerbottom.

That would probably one of the few alternative characters skins I'd also be interested in ^^ (although I adore Wickerbottom the way she is, but still I'd like a male version of that kind for her play style)

No.

Wilson's barber skin (especially the head) is just a primed Wagstaff.

Winona's Moonbound (also the head) is like Charlie. Or her Roseate.

And besides, Klei discontinued the Heirloom line ages ago.

Didn't klei want to add small particle effects to a skin, but later decided not to because it'd make it seem more pricey, or it'd be more pricey? I don't think this idea is very probable.

Also given that the skins are either an alternative timeline, or an earlier iteration, or a dress up, making a completely different character in the current timeline of events as a skin would be at least confusing. It'd be more reasonable to just make a new playable character.

I would prefer if they were made available that they were there own characters with their own gadgets skills and what nots, because if Klei is going to make a special “skin” that does that- They would still have to edit every single line of text that they have while inspecting things, and by that point… they may as well had been their own character.

Unless Klei takes the Wes route and turns them both mute with no quotes whatsoever, but this isn’t Fortnite.. every character doesn’t play exactly the same way regardless of if your Harley Quinn, Marcus Fenix, Or Super Sayian Goku.

If it's anchored to another character, then it depends on whether I like the underlying character and the skin, in this case the bases alone make me say no

Only if someone gets Warbucks as an alt

Another one I might maybe convince myself to get......but only if he uses Warbucks' voice.

(.......all in all I have changed my mind mostly, though, as some replies earlier mentioned that they could as well make them real complete characters or have people add them as custom characters via the workshop instead. I fear I agree with those too much, but then specifically Warbucks would be a choice that might make me overthink my attitude towards character skins)

The various mod Charlies have a harp for a voice. I always felt like that choice was a little off. I am curious what instrument would officially be her voice.

Nope. That would also ruin the whole set up established in the lore, especially given Charlie/Wagstaff are SIGNIFICANTLY better than the feeble Maxwell/Winona.

Interesting things discussed, and I expected most people to be opposed but I wanted to see anyway. I do want to clarify some points though.

These wouldn't be brand new characters from a lore perspective, I'm interested in community interest in integrating characters that are already established by Klei into the DST roster through skins. I chose these two characters specifically because they have had people pretty vocal about playing them. However, removing them from their current position in the game's story would ultimately end the story, as they are and have been the driving forces in all of the events up to this point. Skins are generally non-canon with a few minor exceptions, so it wouldn't be fully committing to bringing these two characters down to the level of survivors.

It also solves the issue of overlapping kits in the event Klei ever does decide to make them playable characters. What would Charlie have in her kit besides affinity with shadows, and the ability to summon a shadow army to fight for her? Maybe some perks related to darkness or something, but we don't know what Maxwell's skill tree will bring, and given that he is currently Charlie's pawn, I wouldn't be surprised if he gets something involving darkness. For Wagstaff, what else could he do that Winona doesn't already cover, especially after her upcoming skill tree?

Edit: I also guess in theory these could be "earned" skins through beating the story that is currently unfinished, where if you help Wagstaff completely, Charlie loses the war and becomes a survivor, and if you help Charlie, Wagstaff becomes a survivor, etc. That would probably be better than buying but I like supporting Klei in that regard so I'm not pressed either way

could add things that are related to being a shadow like teleporting away on hit, passing through enemies and maybe having some way to temporarily go invincible, maybe as a part of an attack

Writing all new quotes for both characters would be way too much work for them to just be a cosmetic thing (I know Wagstaff has plenty of quotes already, but he'd still need hundreds more, and a good chunk of his existing quotes reference his food gimmick from DS). As neat as it'd be in theory to be able to play as Wagstaff or Charlie in some way, I don't think this would work

There's still the point of gameplay confusion. Imagine you're completely new to the game or a simple bystander, you don't know any lore or care about it in the slightest, even with some big changes you should be able to say that they are one character. The point of a skin in multiplayer games is to "dress up" the character while keeping them recognizable - that's character design 101.
