Been playing a lot this game and I've always felt it's missing some sort of a milestone for both new and veterans, something that we can leave our mark on, type below any thoughts on the matter that you would like to share on what kind of goals/achievements you want to see in the future and maybe someone from the higher ups will notice it and actually make it happen

:wickerbottomthanks:.

PS: Please refrain commenting on things like no it will never happen or it would be a bad idea etc. thanks in advance.

Klei is opposed to achievements as a concept. They were required to have at least one for some console edition and added in the Accomploshrine, which is a pointless time-waster that costs gears, as a response. We are never going to see DST get achievements, so you're best off installing a mod that adds them.

If Klei ever changed their minds on that, though, I'd want them to have achievements that are on the difficult side in addition to the basic "survive your first night" ones every game has. Something like "eat at least one of every food", "kill every boss at least once", "grow one of every giant crop", "kill the final bosses (Fuelweaver and Celestial Champion) as every character", "play until day 1000", and that kind of thing.
You could go even further beyond that and have speedrun-related achievements, like "kill Bee Queen before day 8" or "finish Pearl's quest before the first winter".

The issue with achievements is that console commands and mods exist, so unless Klei made those disable achievements from unlocking, people could just cheat their way into having all of them, which'd make them just as meaningless as Klei has indicated they think achievements are.

I play DST because it is not telling me what to do. I don't like games full of tutorials and objectives, that I always ignore. Exploration and freedom are core in DST.
Try, die, repeat.

On Xbox, there actually IS a set of achievements for the game, that will teach the player things that aren’t so easy to figure out without looking up spoilers/tutorials online.

I learned valuable things like: How to Make various crafting Stations, How to Craft a Beebox, That you can “Repair” stuff with a Sewing Kit, That you can hire up to 8 or more Followers, And that you can tame a flipping FurCow! (Beefalo)

Now days DST is filled to the brim with helpful loading screen tips, in game journal entries, and huge freaking ? way points pointing to undiscovered locations.

The Achievements gave “Vague” hints at what to do- Such as wear Snurtle armor & helmet at the same time, or learn how to grow your own flowers..

The in Game Journal, Loading Tips & Way Points are Way way WAYYY more in your face than the achievements were.

I consider 100%-ing the crockpot recipe book a subtle in-game achievement (as opposed to out of game Steam achievements). I completed it after having done everything else I set out to do in that world. It was a lot of running around, accidentally screwing up the more niche recipes, and waiting on certain ingredients to grow. By the end I was frustrated and really burnt out on the game.

I think Klei knows how to encourage and prod players into doing fun things without explicit achievements, and I think the game is better for that. Something like Steam achievements would cause shortsighted people like myself to try to complete some arbitrary standard at the expense of our own fun. I have so many hours in the game that I would feel some sort of expectation to have collected every potential Steam achievement.

I think the game loses some of its sense of discovery if the player follows achievements like some sort of checklist as well. People start following achievement guides instead of following their own curiosities.

Having played survival games with achievements, after 100%-ing them I usually feel no motivation to play again. As far as monkey brain is concerned, I already did everything.

Don't Starve NOT having achievements encourages me to come at it from different angles every time.

Will have to agree with everyone. I can't imagen an achievement in dst. Kill a boss achievement? Die in a funny way achievement? Survive X days achievement? Obtain a rare item achievement? I feel like no matter what achievement you'll add to dst it will get 100% by everyone eventually without even trying.

Consoles require games to have achievements on em

if it wasn't then Klei would also omit those

Of course they do, but the cool thing about console achievements is that by doing them you can actually get some pretty cool rewards outside of the game itself- (such as for example unlocking an avatar shirt or hat or even a cool emote that you can only get from getting the achievement in the game.)

Such as getting a Gears of War shirt for gamer avatar for completing the game on hard difficulty without dying, etc..

Terraria has added achievements for events/bosses long after they were introduced and it was already annoying to have a few blank completion marks for what I'd already accomplished. Adding them to DST after so many years would go one of two ways for veterans - either you'd be forced to start from scratch to get credit for basic progress you'd made a hundred times before, or you'd clear them all in one session with zero effort on your day 9000+ fully automated megabase. I don't see how either would be fun or interesting.

Same way megabasers pride themselves on boss statues…?

I mean I’m personally confused, having grown up playing mostly Xbox- Achievements have been a main stay of that experience.

And even though DST players don’t really want achievements, the game is already littered with them.

(fight this boss, do this- to craft this..)

Just to get the sawhorse blueprint in DST requires a trip to the ruins and finding pearls island.

The game HAS achievements.. it’s always had them…

”Oh I killed Bearger, let’s display his statue in our base!”

Uh, I guess you "achieve" things in a world, but it unlocks content? Which supports my point, players already have these things accomplished without achievements. Why'd you quote my whole post if you only read the last sentence?

Completely agree, there are already statues in the game that represent the 'achievement' system. I guess we should probably remove the actual achievements from consoles too to reflect this.

Both DS & DST have achievements on the console versions of the game.

And even though Klei only added the Accomploshrine in spite of them, I don’t think they actually realized how hard that was going to be..

I don’t think people on these forums remember what it was like to pick up DST for the very first time, and just trying to survive through night fall…

You guys neglect that, it’s almost as if you see yourselves as being “Above it” so to speak, But for a moment try to picture yourself as a newcomer to DS, and imagine just how hard it would’ve been to gather the supplies to build the shrine & then more importantly: Stay alive long enough to activate it the required amount of times necessary for the achievement to pop up.

It required the player to not only invest in ruthlessly tapping the “activate” button, but also in having enough skill to fight off darkness, hunger, hound attacks, and weather seasons.

And the closest thing that can relate to that for YOU now is when Klei adds a new boss and you can kill it for the first time EVER and add its statue to your growing collection.

That's what it's called, yeah I agree, I think Klei should remove the Accomploshrine
