I dont think you really understand what im saying and i think if you look back at what i said and try to take a different interpretation then you might get it but otherwise i dont really care enough to participate in this bad faith debate any further

The only person making bad faith arguments is you. Warly is hard because he "necessitates knowledge that you otherwise would never have to care about" but Wormwood is easy because just don't get hit 4head. It Wormwood isn't hard because he can just never get hit, then Warly needing to make crock pot dishes isn't hard. Needing to use the crockpot isn't difficult, having less options for your gameplay isn't difficult, these restrictions aren't hard. If you're actually starving to death I don't believe that you're no-hitting the bosses.

People talking about wormwood you know bat bat exist right?

There isn't a single character in the game who just automatically kills you for picking them with no counterplay. And that also isn't even difficulty, it's just losing. Being able to overcome the challenges is literally what difficulty is.

Probably Warly, never played him as a main character in a run before because I've always been turned off by the need to make a variety of crockpot dishes when I prefer the much more convenient honey, jerky, and stonefruit. Just feels like a massive nuisance for me. I'd rather just switch to him and make his buff dishes and then switch back, kind of like Winona.

Wormwood is still a bit challenging in the early game but once you get a pig barracks up and red mushroom planters going, it becomes trivial to make compost wrap thanks to Ipecaca syrup. It's easy to mass produce, rot is abundant by mid game, and I can visit the meteor field for constant replenishment of niter.

Everyone who says wormwood has never played wormwood smh. /s

He's my comfort character. Chillin' eating red caps and rubbing some poo on me for ez heals.

I play other characters and I actually feel the difficulty in qol goes up lol. It like, they ain't chill like that, y'know?

I would probably say Warly and (somewhat) Walter. Warly is mainly because making multiple dishes to micromanage his hunger has never been my strong suit, and Walter is simply because low max hunger of 110 is just is not fun for me.

Winona is actually the hardest character since i struggle to survive to day 10 as her, since i speedrun the portal to become Wes instead.

Yeah, 1 red cap, 1 honey and 1 rot heals for 30 hp. And you can turn that into 120hp with compost wraps and bloom too. (150hp with poop buckets)

Also sleeping underrated.

Since this was on experienced players specifically, I picked Wortox.

Warly is really annoying, but can be made manageable under the right circumstances, Walter can be tricky for newcomers, but in the right hands he doesn't really face too many issues and wormwood's health issues mostly get solved by giving tents and siesta lean-tos a fair chance, as well as the non food healing items, all good options that are just criminally underutilized imo. Wanda would've probably been the second closest I'd answer for this, but once again if you're experienced you probably know how to deal with her.

Wortox on the other hand is maddening to play at almost every second in my opinion. Souls are very nice for healing and mobility, but sheesh having to deal with halved stats from ANY food is ridiculous to me. Killing things for souls is fine enough compensation for healing, but it doesn't really make up for what is basically equivalent to double the normal hunger drain at all times. Now it's just more annoying when playing alone than anything, but with other people it just drains more food than necessary. And since that's not annoying enough, sanity is a pain to manage. Not to maintain, to manage. Doing basically anything that requires you to control your sanity in any way becomes even more of a chore than it would be already, not to mention that if you don't have something like a tam or enlightened crown, you'll probably have the insanity ambience living rent free in your head the whole time you play.

As much as I love the benefits of wortox, I almost never want to play him for any prolonged amount of time because he in practice restricts my food choices even more than warly does.

embrace the soul playstyle, consume the souls, heal with the souls, be insane with the souls, become one with the souls and reject mortal food

Nobody is hard if you know what you're doing, every "hard" character has their own skill

Wanda needs to know how to rush ruins to make the most of her kit

Wormwood needs to know how to get lots of healing

Walter needs to know how to gather additional sanity food

Warly needs to cook meaty stew AND meatballs (insanely difficult) and he may also use alternative healing methods

Most characters have some way(s) to avoid attacks better tough (bloom, woby, backstep, garlic spice)

I voted wormwood since you have to go out of your way to gather fertelisers or honey poultice but in general

They're all easy if you can avoid getting hit

Thanks for the votes. I didn't include Wes because I'm pretty sure he was designed to be the challenge character so I figured everyone would probably vote for him. Instead I was curious what other characters might follow him as challenge characters since I like to play solo and some characters I feel make things too easy, like Woodie or Wolfgang. I think I would agree with the list we got. I still haven't tried Wanda yet though. Now I can't wait for Walter and Warly's skill trees haha.

1. Walter

2. Warly

3. Wormwood

4. Wanda

When 3/4 of them are your favorite characters. :spidercowers:
I just don't find Walter fun personally. The others. Oh so fun.

that happens when a character has both interesting downsides and upsides

lately klei tried to give downsides to characters like wicker and wx refresh but later they remove woodie's downsides... gladly they didn't remove wormwood's

What downside did they give to Wickerbottom? I haven't played her since before the refresh.

Also on a side note I think people underestimate how challenging Wilson is compared to other characters, just for the fact that he's neutral and has no upsides, unless you consider beard hair an upside, which isn't very hard to attain by any character. In my opinion, if a Wormwood solos Bee Queen it's not as impressive compared to a Wilson doing the same thing, since he can only use what the base game provides him (no bramble husk).

Lower max HP

Even lower stats from orange freshness food and inability to eat red freshness food

instantly spawning a terror beak/crawling horror when reading a book with insufficient sanity.

And post refresh klei decided out of the blue to make it so wicker book reading animations and panflutes can no longer be cancelled so if u misclick a book on accident ur forced to cast it.

Or if u slightly misjudge the distance between u and an aggro mob when reading STS for example theres no way to move out of the animation, ur just a sitting a duck.

——

wicker is most likely the most nerfed survivor in DST history when u look at all the changes they made to her starting with applied horticulture nerf
