What do you think each survivor needs most from their skill tree?

Recommended Posts

There's a lot of discussion about what people want for skill trees, but what is the most important  addition to each character's skill tree that you want to see added? Usually, each survivor seems to get 1-2 major bonuses, such as Wolfgangs Planar Buffs.

Personally:

  • Willow: Bernie Inflicting fire damage/Bonus damage against targets on fire (Ik its two, but Willow needs it)
  • Wendy: Abigail ignores damage in passive mode (Makes her significantly more viable against giants)
  • WX-78: 1-2 Additional Circuits PLEASE (The mechanic would be so much more interesting with even 1 more circuit)
  • Wickerbottom: N/A
  • Wes: Balloon Mech (Making it act like a player controlled bernie would be fun, even if it still deals no damage)
  • Maxwell: N/A
  • Wigfrid: Personal planar weapon craft (Akin to battle spear)
  • Webber: Spiders can gather items dropped on ground
  • Winona: Complete immunity to darkness (It'd be funny)
  • Warly: Can create crock pot dishes with three ingredients (Not entirely sure how this would work but would be cool)
  • Wortox: Greater sanity boost from freeing souls (Wortox should be able to sustain himself entirely on souls, without food)
  • Wurt: Ranged Merms
  • Walter: Recyclable Rounds (So higher tier shots can be used without significant investment)
  • Wanda: Unused ageless watches are automatically used if wanda runs out of time (There should be consequences for this, but still)

Farmer Merms please, don’t see how ranged Merms would do much.

Fair enough, I don't use wurt much, but the point was more diversifying use cases for merms. Farmer merms would probably work better.

For me, it would be:

  • Willow: Using fire on enemies doesn't turn the loot to ash.
  • Wendy: A new potion: Dance macabre. Abigail and Wendy merge, (abi posseses Wendy?) and Wendy can do abi's bloom debuff in exchange for not having abi present for a limited duration.
  • Wx-78: A place to store circuits and they restore durability over time (like Wicker's bookcase).
  • Wickerbottom: The end is nigh! expanded. The lightning bolts can produce an assortment of random effects, such as turning striked mobs to other mobs or turning trees into trees guards.
  • Wes: Can copy another character's skill, but it's predetermined and at a lower efficiency. Like if he mimes Wormwood he will always get farmhand only. Giving him the ability to help other characters in tedious tasks. He can only store 1 skill at a time.
  • Maxwell: A new worker that can till soil.
  • Wigfrid: Fortifying Falsetto: A song that give wig a shield that blocks the next attack.
  • Webber: Can feed a spider queen switcher doodles to create dens that only spawn that type of spider.
  • Winona: Can turn off stage lights.
  • Warly: Can throw spices to create a spice cloud. The buffs efficiency is split amongst all affected entities. For followers essentially.
  • Wortox: Better the devil you know: a disguise that allows him to temporarily lose his monster tag but slowly drains souls.
  • Wurt: Merms that can till soil.
  • Walter: adds crits to his sling shots if riding Woby (50% for double dmg? Would need testing for appropriate numbers). Giving Woby an advantage over beefalos and making the slingshot powerful but risky.
  • Wanda: Borrowed Time: the next killing blow to wand or if she runs out of time will instead break a second chance watch in her inventory and revert her to the start of middle aged Wanda.

Might change my list later.

Re; Wendy, that's a really good way to give Wendy a leg up against giants, and it removes the potential exploits from preventing Abigiail from drawing aggro. I like that a lot.

Re; Warly/Wes; Especially fun ideas I want to see implemented

Re; Wortox I think the implementation should be reversed- make all monsters passive to him while in that state. He can already soul hop from dangerous situations, so giving him away to perform tasks in dangerous areas would be cool. That and isn't there already items that did that exact thing?

I think in general, each character's skill trees should help diversify playstyles. I think Wormwoods and Woodie's are pretty good in this aspect, even if there are some "must have" perks, or some arguably meta ones. I've seen many Woodies in pubs invest in the final of each type of wereform and not just exclusively into moose like what I was expecting, some even perferring going all in on lumberjack, which I think is cool. More ways to play the same character is always neat, and making more branched skills that're mutually exclusive would be cool.

I wish I could upvote this more than once. I couldn't agree more.

I really, really hope Wendy and Wortox get options that lean into more supportive roles when playing with friends, as I really like being a combat healer/anchor.

At the same time, Wendy also really needs better options for dealing with stronger foes by herself that isn't just "everything takes longer bc 0.75x damage multiplier."

Meanwhile, without support, Wortox struggles to gather enough souls to properly sustain himself.

Whilst I don't like/agree with a couple of these most of them are fantastic

I'll focus on Maxwell since he's my main. I believe that Maxwell's skill tree shouldn't really upgrade his puppets. Like that branch of that skill tree would be like "Puppets have better range that they can passive interact with things" and "Duelist's lunge can now go further", things that would be nice bonuses but not really needed, simular to the blooming branch of wormwood skill tree. I personally think Maxwell's tree should focus more on making his affinity to magical things more prominent as well as giving more shadow spells. Magic proficiently would include thing like "Life giving amulet increases max hp by 50 while worn" and "Magiluminessence has double the light radius", things that open up potentially more play with staves and amulets in place of using thulecite and dark tatter armors for dem duelist boosts. Shadow spells would include things like "Night Enlighten" which causes all nightlights on screen to stay on for a day (hopefully after some kind of nightlight buff) and "Shadow-port" which sets up a 1 use rift watch for 10 days.

I'd imagine the 2 (yes, both alignment options would be present. I don't like wormwood being alignment locked and I don't like the idea of Maxwell being so either) being able to overload the Codex if he uses either of the alignments base materials (Pure Horror and Pure Brilliance respectively) it allows his puppets and spells to gain special bonuses. For example, a Horror overcharged Codex would make the previously mentioned Shadow port a permanent teleport at the cost of 25% of the codex's charge each use while the Brilliance overcharged Codex would instead have it be useable infinitely but reducing the time limit to 4-6 days. Puppets would be able to mine the other sides respective materials like normal. Duelists would gain Pure planar damage from all boosted damage with a horror overcharged Codex while the Brilliance over charged would gain planar defense and a slight damage reduction based on the damage bonus they have (doesn't convert the bonus damage).

In short, Maxwell doesn't really need much more for his kit like characters like willow and Winona do, he's living perfectly fine without it, so it should reflect that in his skill tree by allowing him to do more niche things while never making his existing kit any stronger outside of alignment perks (and also shadow panic spell as it has a few thing that could make it better while the prison doesn't need anything).

Here’s the stuff I want added:

Form my stuff:

Other then the base cite stuff that doesn’t really make sense why it’s not in the game sense the lore  fits it better then what the game has

i’d have to pick the spider side alignments

Merms need a focus on utility and much less on combat.

This would be better for Woby. Webber is the combat minio character.

Tbh everyone needs this.

Did already acknowledge this in a reply, the idea was just making merms more versatile, but I admit I don't play Wurt enough to give full detail.

both webber and Woby could get that ability. Webber being combat focused doesn't exclude him from getting such an ability.

I would like it if merms could gather items on the floor for you tbh, it's not as though Maxwell needs that feature to be exclusive to remain relevant. Although I wouldn't say no to Pigs being able to do it as well so idk. I think for me my main gripe with skill trees is that they often feel like changes that should have been on the character in the first place rather than a bonus you earn.:spidercowers:

It would be better if they could water plants instead. It would be more flavourful and have a niche since wormwood already avoids tilling.

I never considered Wormwood getting Saladmanders.

But he got them and it is the best skill out of them all! (Visually)

So I will wait to see what Klei cooks up first then give feedback on what was cooked up. Though less passionately than I did with Wormwood's skills because... well just look at my pfp.

maybe wes skill tree could be perks with downsides like "deals 10 planar damage but receives 10 extra planar damage" or "natural 5 planar damage defense but falls sleep easier", etc

edit. and add the balloon sword!!1!1!

Wes is the joke char, not some risk reward thing, he exists entirely to make people suffer.

yes but you cant add a tree that are just downsides so giving perks with downsides would make player choose which suffering they want in exchange of benefits

I think a middle ground exists, where Wes does have perks that can provide benefit him in a group environment, but cannot significantly better himself.

It retains the idea of wes being a joke character in single player, but also gives him a really high skillceiling in a team environment.
