Which path to follow with Warly?

Recommended Posts

In this topic, I will discuss in a more philosophical manner how the skill tree of Warly will unfold, or at least how I would like it to, but first, I will try to define what his playstyle would be. Remember that I have already made other posts about more tangible advantages.

"Warly is a utility character focused on granting beneficial stats and effects to his companions. He is considered a challenging character due to his gameplay (advantages and disadvantages) revolving around two of the most complex aspects of the game: the cooking system and the farming system."

Knowing this, we can try to imagine which path his skill tree should follow in order to preserve his playstyle, and I believe the best way to do that is by providing advantages that increase his difficulty. What do I mean by "increasing difficulty"? I am not referring to simply making things more laborious or resource-intensive; the difficulty I'm talking about is in terms of complexity and management.

What do I mean?

  • Let's give Warly more recipes or seasonings with new fun effects, but make these recipes require exotic ingredients that are underutilized, such as Durian or Pomegranates.
  • Introduce new cooking items that provide benefits but require careful attention. For example, a backpack pot that cooks food while you walk but has reduced storage space. We could even improve Warly's chef's pack to function as a salt fridge, which can be opened on the ground but needs to be fed with salt.
  • Enhance the utilization of food items, which will give more points for meat, dairy, sweets, vegetables, fish, or eggs in recipes when prepared by Warly. This is in line with the thematic aspect where the player can specialize in what kind of chef they want to be: Saucier (meat), Pâtissier (sweets), Légumier (vegetables), and Poissonier (fish).

The only things I'm almost certain about are that he will be able to provide planar damage and defense through spices/dishes (feels like a given), and a skill that increases the time/potency of dishes that apply buffs when he eats them (we Warly mains have been asking for that for awhile). The rest is gonna be a surprise

  • Tres magnifique: more French in inspection quotes
  • Picky sleeper: Warly will refuse to sleep on sleep rolls
  • Only the freshest ingredients: Warly will refuse to cook with stale/spoiled food
  • Evelo’s special dish: Warly can no longer be picked from the character selection screen if the selection screen was triggered by a moon rock idol
  • Barbed hamburger: moon glass can be used as inedible filler

here's some unlock ideas:

1. let meatballs ignore his "cant eat the same food" mechanic

2. another down the same meatball path which will make the saturation you get from meatballs increase with how many you have eaten in succession

3. get rid of his spices and stuff (i think its kinda confusing and bloats the game)

Personally I'd expand on his spices using more commonly found ingredients. Perhaps even give him the ability to combine multiple spices on a single dish.

Spice upgrades/adding new ones could be neat because as it stands his spices aren’t really useful except for maybe the chili spice

id also think it’d be good if he had a tree that gave him more bonuses from his own special foods as to give a reason to actually stay as him

I usually grow chilli and garlic together, so i always garlic my healing foods if some garlic is available.

Also, the honey spice is pretty good, especially coupled with glass axes. Sure companions or maxwell is more efficient, but if those are not around, honey spice is easily accessible, cheap and thus worth it.

And while i don't think salt spice is completely useless, I personally don't use it very much.

I hope they give warly special cookware, things like from Gorge can be very fun.

I had thought that Warly can brew drinkables
Tea pots exclusive to warly and tables.
Need ice, and must be cooked on fire pit.
Warly can make feed an different type of fertilizer and cause berry bush give fresh lefts. Bush leafs can be dryer in drying deck and yield tea.
Warly can make tea and can be poured multiple time. That can return the temperature to 35c and give sanity. And negate sanity drain form dusk

Their is some one had suggest that let Warly make pickles. I am a fan of that ideas too.

Personally suggest to make more use of spices/food recipes instead of more yield of resources. its had enough already.

F.e. some kind of spice that make food take longer to expire

To support those new ideas its best to add biome thus can make fit all othes different plants

Personally I use all his current spices aside from salt I kind of feel like there's not much reason not to use the honey spice since it's something that passively generates and I can't say no to having higher defense.

Though since we're already dipping our toes into mixing into other characters territory I think it'd be a good idea to give Warly a way to make farming more streamlined as him or give him another way to access garden crops for more convivence in accessing his dishes. The reason being I feel like people get burned out gardening as him by the time they try to use his other dishes so I feel like it'd increase his play rate with people who don't plan to be the team's kitchen.
