Unexplained: Maxwell's Doorway to adventure

Recommended Posts

In singleplayer that exists, but out of nowhere it's never explained what happened to it or where it went within the Constant. It's like it's deleted out of existence. We had a cinematic featuring it too. Will that ever be explained, Klei? Cuz I do hope so, being the only way to reach the throne room and all... Unless it's deep buried somewhere in concept to if it ever will be implemented or not. Unsure if Maxwell were to even allow it to be destroyed without some kind of failsafe or protective measures.

I have a feeling that will never. They are basically two separate games at this point. Game wise and story wise.

DST takes place in a different location than DS, doesn't it? I thought that was the point of the Jury Rigged Portal.

Pipspooks come from somewhere, whether Wilson happened to be there sooner or later, the world has a long history.

Well, in the singleplayer upon the completion of the adventure mode, Maxwell ends up in the world where the successful character came from. Canonically first Wilson had taken Maxwell's place and then later Charlie took Wilson's. Given that Charlie 'followed' Wilson from his world through the adventure mode to find Maxwell, it's safe to assume that Wilson would end up in the same world as Maxwell, once he was removed from the throne.

So what we see in the Cyclum comic takes place in the world where Wilson found Maxwell's Door.

And that's where the two construct the to-be Florid Postern that allowed other survivors from their worlds to enter Wilson's world. Hence the mystery of what happened to Maxwell's Door.

I've actually made a suggestion that Maxwell's Door and Teleportato should be added as setpieces to dst, in a destroyed state of course. It would be cool to see, through quotes, which characters recognize them and had interacted with them during the singleplayer part of the timeline.

But alas, it seems like Klei is perfectly fine with these two structures just vanishing from existance for unknown reasons. To be fair, clockwork statues and the moon stone seem to have existed before dst, judging by Maxwell's quotes, so I guess we shouldn't expect everything in the lore and world building to be air-tight.... or tight at all.

Similarly with ocean updates or rift updates :)

Some do but there's also this quote, so it's weird. I'm just gonna assume they popped up during Charlie's reign the same way Maxwell made his own statues during his.

But with the moon stone, his quote also implies it just popped up out of nowhere after they had been 'destroyed' during (or before?) his reign.

I think Klei put the thought aside during the initial making of DST and eventually forgot about it. From a story perspective, I thought of it as if Charlie took away the portal to not allow anyone to reach her.

Although... it would be nice to have an actual answer for it. Maybe the survivors were never brave enough to use the door again and it was eventually broken down by the same roses appearing on statues. It could come back to the game as a ruined setpiece - as many have suggested - to be destroyed for a few boards and nightmare fuel.

Or who knows, with all these rifts, that unstable machine could burst and make a new portal! I wonder what could come out of the throne room... it has the potential to be unlike the previous 3 rifts we've seen.

Klei might even have something planned already since the version in Wilson's house is being used by Wagstaff.

The various puzzles and the intro to A New Reign debunk it being a new game in terms of story.

None of that makes sense unless Adventure Mode happened first.

Seems like a missed opportunity to have the Jury Rigged Portal made out of parts of the door. It also makes sense that with Maxwell off the throne he's not able to place it in a world.

They did make references to the door by showing one at the factory, one at Moon Quay (before it exploded) and one in Wilson's house, so it's not completely forgotten. I'm not sure if the way they work is very consistent, unless the idea is that they are all locked onto a frequency that is the Constant.
