Pticman
Looking for some ways to deal with bright shades? Want to completely ignore them and still collect loot without even fighting? Here is the best auto farm you can make! All you need is > Wormwood character 20/30 dragonfruit seeds Scalemale armor And that's it! Step 1 : Planting! Plant 8+ dragonfruits around lava pond in the desert. Try to place them as close as possible to the pond. Use scalemail while doing this to not catch on fire. Repeat this process for 2/3 ponds. It is important to use dragonfruits because they have immunity to smouldering effect. . Step 2 : Waiting! Very soon bright shades will start to invest your dragonfruits. That is all we need! Because of very short distance to lava pounds bright shades will constantly take about 2.5 damage each second. Moreover, it works even out of screen, similar to volt goats farm! Step 3 : Collecting the loot! You can return to this farm any day you want and collect all brightshade husks from bright shades. Yes, husks don't burn! This way you get absolutely automatic husks farm ignoring all potential threat from brighshades. Super easy and a little bit cheesy! I hope you will enjoy this method. nimzowitsch10
does the ocuvigil make this work offscreen or is that not required?

maxwell_winters
I knew someone would eventually come up with a Brightshade farm.
Shosuko
Could you do it with other crops if you used dragon scale flooring to prevent them from lighting up similar to butterfly lava farm? How easy is it to keep these being the targeted plants? Do you need to not have a bigger garden elsewhere? Anyway, good idea I dig it. Automation is one of my favorite things. So long as you don't have any other gardens in your world, they will keep targeting these ones. If you have multiple gardens in your world other than the one you have at Dfly, you're gonna have to let a brightshade infect those so that no more will spawn in those gardens in future waves once a Brightshade exists in said gardens. Whenever bright shades spawn they choose one of 5 domesticated herds with the biggest plants population then spawn in one of them. This method always works if you don't have any other gardens in the world or if bright shades are already in the gardens (new bright shades can't spawn in 7.5 tiles from already existing bright shades) If you want to learn more about Brightshade spawning mechanics I highly advise to watch lakhnish video on youtube about it. You can find there easy way to build the protected garden from Brightshade infestation. So yeah if you have a lot of decorative plants, this method would not work consistently, because it is hard to create 5 domesticated herds around the ponds with the highest potential brightshades number. In this case it is better to place dragonfruits around every pond to increase the chances. (Or dont use bery bushes as decor Sadge)

(Or dont use bery bushes as decor Sadge) I haven't tried this yet, but Dragonscale flooring prevents things on it from catching fire from the lava ponds. They don't stop the heat damage though, which is used to do a butterfly farm by planting flowers on scaled flooring around the edge the same way you planted dragon fruits. So I just thought, maybe I could put grass close together around the pond if I wasn't playing wormwood (I don't typically swap characters in my worlds.) And yeah, I expected as much - any garden, or other "plant herd" that is larger then these would get infected. I'm not surprised, that part is kinda frustrating tbh lol but I like the way you're thinking here. Automation is fun ! I hate every time some cool automation gets patched out of a game. I was able to do the same thing with the farm plot tiles without Wormwood's planting ability, so no need to swap characters!

chirsg
Kudos to you. This is actually a fantastic middle finger to the rifts mechanic and to see someone exploit it brings me joy. Even if this gets patched, just know, you've already won. This is great work and even for just a moment, human ingenuity triumphs over the word of god. God should fear what he has created. Dreadle
Quick question: does the farm require replanting before the crops rot? Obtaining 20-30 seeds can be hard if you're not actively farming.

nimzowitsch10
i want to try this on my world (i havent started the rifts yet) but i'm worried the brightshades are going to infect my stone fruit farm (i got like 100 stone bushes). I planted around 50 dragonfruit around the pools, would the brightshades target the dragon fruit or my stone fruit farm?
Brago-sama
Ive planted 48 seeds around lava pools but they still sometimes spawn on my grass/twig farm located aaaaal the way at moon island. Not very often tho On the plus side, i dont need to worry about husks.

Brightshades don't infect stone fruits, banana bushes or spiky bushes, you are saved.
