-Variant
Acid rain is one of the newest features in the beta, though it seems somewhat under cooked as a mechanic with how little it actually affects. From my current knowledge, Acid Rain damages anything with 'wetness' protection. This includes most armors such as football helms. Next to that, it speeds up spoilage I believe.[?] Aaannddd it makes ponds into Nitre ponds. The only true protection from it seems to be the new Shadow Umbrella. And maybe 100% wetness protection, but that'll still damage your clothing items I believe. [Uncertain.] But may I also note the absolutely bizarre obscure mechanic where it makes Batilisks have green eyes, fly faster, and are stronger? It's so obscure and out of left field. It's ONLY them, no other mob it seems. I surely hope this gets explained a bit more in-game and maybe affects more things in the future since it sorta seems to just be there alongside the rest of the new content. Antynomity
I like it, all I hope for is for more ways of countering it gets added, a shadow coat equivalent of the rain coat and an eyebrella equivalent that could use the guardian horn to make or something, that item is underused af. HeatAndRun
No more electric damage modifier in caves?

WhackE
maybe acid rain should create creatures that are half-toad half-mushroom, and cause plants to be diseased, just spit balling y'know.
gamehun20
Maybe if it's acid raining it could leave like slippery icey patches like idk if it's just me but i always heard people say to not go outside in winter if it was an acid rain the day before because it will be extra slippery
YouKnowWho
It breaks my heart thinking what acid rain would do to the poor rock lobsters.

maxwell_winters
I hope they'll retroactively add some acid rain protection to existing items. Similarly to how they added planar defense to the Dreadstone set later in the beta. I also find it super random that shadow rifts, of all things, cause them. Lunar invasion would be more thematically fitting, imo.

I figured the idea was that pollution is seeping into the water due to increased earthquakes.
Mike23Ua
On the topic of Acid rain can you show me a gif of what that looks like? I kinda want to see like these glowing green raindrops hitting the ground and “sizzling” but I doubt Klei gave it that much attention to detail. Your describing a juice up effect, like the Court of Owls in Gotham Knights. Is it only the Bats that get this effect or does it impact MoleBats too? Mike23Ua
Another Question I forgot to ask but is Wurt and Merms immune to Acid rain? They seem to be a mob that would enjoy swimming through Toxic Sludge.
Popian
There's some form of nitrogen in the rain, suggested by growth formula as a fertilizer mapping to nitrogen and the ponds producing Nitre. Perhaps for the bats it's to encourage players to make Bat Bats with the doubled drop rates to counter the damage of the rain.

Mobs aren't affected at all, aside from Batilisks getting a stat buff.

Living beings are a part of nature and both of them seem to just corrupt things that misuse or stay close to them for too long aside from the new plant mob there's not much I can see in the way of favoring a specific style of corruption. I meant that Nightmare Fuel mostly mutate creatures with psyche (the only exception is evil flowers) while lunar magic mutated a bunch of plants, mushrooms and minerals. Stuff that doesn't have a mind. So water seems like a next logical step.

Lunar also mutated a bunch of animals as well as the crab king really anything that came in contact with it and I feel like shadows would do the same with plants and such just that it mainly exists in the caves where there are limited amounts of things to corrupt for now at least.
