Beta this week? Praying topic

Recommended Posts

Planar mechanics were a way to allow for combat to be made shorter and higher risk because they:

  • make the combat character advantage about 40 hits instead of 100 on theoretical mob so character swapping is less "mandatory"
  • reduce the effectiveness of quick damage options like Gunpowder and mob armies
  • reduce the effectiveness of staying power options like 95% damage reduction and Jellybeans
  • require more than a quarter stack of healing if you are going to tank hits
  • do not require a boss to deal 700 damage in 1 attack to be threatening

It's a solution to make bosses (and to a lesser extent mobs) less of a major resource/time sink while still being able to see all the gimmicks they have to offer, which is what people have been asking for.

It definitely seems to me like "longer in beta" would solve From Beyond's issues much better than "longer in development," especially since player feedback was so intense for the last beta. It definitely seems like the solution would be to spend longer testing how players feel about the changes rather than spending time on those changes itself. Most of the criticism of Taking Root didn't seem to be "you should have spent more time developing this," it seemed to be "this doesn't blend well with our playing experience." This really seems like the kind of thing that would be better solved in a player-included beta rather than behind-closed-doors development.

To which their response was "you need the next part for it to start making sense."

And that next part is probably still being coded and internally vetted to make sure its actually going to give the experience they want.

Also part of going from a 1 month release window to a 3 month release window is 2 months of no content coming out.

Sounds all well and good when you list it like that, and so did that appeal Klei made about how "metaknight warps the meta of smash brothers, so wolfgang needs nerfs"

but nothing, NOTHING in this game beats 4 ppl in a fight.  Wolfgang can get up to 6x damage mod, he's still not as good as 4 ppl.

tbh unless they do something that actually balances for the number of players in a fight I think its a fools errand to try and balance OUT the damage multipliers of combat characters.  All it really does is diminish character choice and player expression.  It doesn't add to the game in any meaningful way.

(Directional) AoE is a way to deal with multiple players. Each player would still have to engage as they would solo, but it may give more openings to attack and be slightly faster.

Wolfgang would still be relevant in reducing fight time and having more health to take hits with. Having 4 players may not be as good if 2 of them end up as ghosts.

How does it work?

Mob armies are a good way to reduce the time taken on the farmable bosses and Gunpowder is okay for the solo player who wants a one and done on something they don't enjoy preparing for. The point is to make engaging with the boss the more optimal solution.

I think that I actually prefer the beta to not come out this week or even next week. It would be nice if the update was more spaced out so that we could have a not so meh update. So I'm actually glad no beta is showing up. They should take all the time they need to perfect it, and then get feedback and even more time to accept the feedback. Still there is a part of me wishing for a beta because I want more DST content.

Klei's release of content and updates has always been an act in trust and patience. I think a lot of ppl forgot about that fact in the last beta. Just enjoy the content and know that once it all comes out and we have the full picture our feedback will be listed to and changes will be made. Klei isn't going to suddenly after all these years destroy their own game. They do things for a reason and I personally enjoy the mystery. I think they should stick to their schedule as they always had. I look forward to the monthly content and updates!

Heard a rumour about this beta that Walter and Woby are getting a giant slingshot that they can only use together...

Has AoE rounds i hear, shreds hoards of weak mobs i hear, has melee levels of dps for bosses i hear.... :wilsoalmostangelic:

A scout boy having a weapon of a rascal is already so out of place that the rumor sounds believeable.

Gotta be hard to be klei. Last update it was “take your time” and “this was rushed” and “we don’t need an update every month” now people are wondering what the heck is going on and trying to rush them for another beta before the month is up.

Klei just do what you do, you’re never gonna please everyone.

I think it's because they said that this next update will complete the previous one in some form. At the same time, they also said that there will be a third part to these rift updates where the rifts interact with each other. Maybe we will get both at the same time?

But I'm not even sure that the same people are complaining about these updates being rushed and then not being rushed.

Either way, people are excited, can you blame them? :D:D This game is great, and Klei is the best game developer I know. I'm also refreshing these forums every day, but I trust them to give us the beta when it's really time.

Fine by me if they don't put up a beta anytime soon. No rush just make sure the quality is good that's what really matters.

You remember how when GTA V first came out it came out without a Multiplayer mode because the developers wanted to spend a bunch of extra time getting the game “Multiplayer Ready” so that once the Multiplayer Mode officially launched it would go over flawlessly & have a stable launch?

ROFLMAO.. yeah we saw how that turned out didn’t we?

I just hope Klei isn’t biting the same bullet.. they spend a bunch of extra time getting a new update ready for Beta players, and when it goes into beta a ton of unexpected bugs, exploits & issues arise- Things that they could patch/fix/Tweak while the updates are in Beta Phase.

So While I understand Klei wanting/needing more time to do updates, they should also have their beta players playing said updates and giving feedback on tweaks/spotting the bugs.

Otherwise- they pull a GTA V and spend all that extra time trying to make sure it works behind closed doors in their “tests” but once the public gets hold of it: even with that extra time they spent trying to make it good… it still releases as a broken mess.

Now HOPEFULLY Klei won’t fall victim to this.. but I still prefer to weigh both the pros/cons & ponder possible outcomes.

You are saying this like there won't be a beta at all so i think you are not quite understanding what everyone is saying here we want the before beta build to stay in to cook more so when the beta comes out we can see more and give feedback on more also why are you comparing a normal update release to a new game mode release with 2 complete differently working companies?

I really doubt that we would get 2 updates at once when this is a 3 part split

Does it have to be though? Maybe after the last update Klei is less inclined to give us small bites of the content, and just wait for the entire meal to be finished.

I’m looking forward to the next update for sure, but I want the update to feel complete. Last one didn’t really feel complete and the community could feel it. I say they take all the time they need and make sure the next one ties up all the loose ends left from the last one.

And no, of course it’s not all the same people. That’s why I said you can’t please everyone. Some people are fine with the wait between updates being a bit longer and some people grew up on Fortnite and tiktok and need that steady dopamine hit. (Obviously I’m just teasing, socially unaware weirdos put the pitchforks down)

You’re the king of comparing mountains to molehills my man. These comparisons you go for to other games often genuinely make zero sense in the slightest.

Rockstar was building an entire online 3D open world game with a fleshed out multiplayer experience from scratch on the most ambitious map to ever be created at that time for an unprecedented and unexpected amount of players. They quite literally had the gaming world on their shoulders.

klei is adding small new mechanics and handfuls of content to an already established paper cutout game. Klei would have to be the most incompetent group of devs in the world to mess up in a way that’s even a fraction as catastrophic as the release of GTAO. They aren’t. Please stop comparing this game to GTA it makes no sense and I’ve seen you do it a couple times now lol.

Not trying to minimize what klei is doing because this game is amazing but it’s nowhere near the scope of something like GTA and the devs are completely capable of taking their time, releasing bigger chunks of content that are nice and fleshed out and not creating a buggy hunk of turd that doesn’t work in the process. They’ve got this. Rest assured, there will be no catastrophe when the new beta drops. Might be some small bugs and minor adjustments that need made as per usual but that’s about it.

No. I don't play those kinds of game. No idea what you are talking about.
