listen, you guys can hate on this idea all you want, but I'm just thinking of more ways klei can get more money to do bigger things.

What's the difference paying for a "season pass" and buying a new skin bundle?

the skin is given to you in the moment you buy it while season pass are an agressive way to force people with problems to play the game to unlock what they paid paid for

is like going to a restaurant, paying the menu and needing to prepare your own food and wash the dishes afterwards. But the person buying the menu also has food addition

Yeah but then what is the point if most people just host their own servers instead of using klei ones

im not saying that battle pass are a bad way to monetize a game, actually they work pretty well as seen in many games. But the execution usually works in the way i described

i dont have klei's financial data but i guess the current system work fine (maybe they give too much free stuff if we are honest). 1 or 2 cheap skin packs per month gives time for artists and the costumer doesnt feel like expending a lot of money/day

i think they should promote more the game outside of china. Is a niche game but very appealing. And, after the refresh, if they add new early content might hook some players time enough to gather money from their kin purchase, selling copies must be a little % of the total income

maybe even looking to make a deal with epic store to gift the single player dont starve so more people know the game

I'm honestly just proposing these type of ideas as a last ditch effort for klei to care more about their servers.

It's been one year since I created this account for the sole purpose of asking for support on klei servers and it seem noone on the forums care about klei servers, nor do the developers which is unfortunate but the reality.

So I will stop making posts about klei servers which alot of you hate.

@nimzowitsch10

I don't think the issue is people hating on posts about server issues. There are, as you know, quite a few others having the same issue. And the problem certainly isn't Klei not caring about the issue, or this wouldn't have happened less than a year ago-

1670425722597.thumb.png.000047b0a40befc4569e91cb9b543955.png

I don't imagine this was something that took them 5 minutes to do, I'd guess it was a fairly involved process and if they didn't care, they wouldn't have done it. Obviously this hasn't fixed the problems, but I don't think Klei would say "screw it, we don't care anymore" after doing the above. And people saying things like-

1670425437412.png.9748d7b9f9a768105882ea54ce625514.png

are certainly completely unproductive.

Since it seems that the ??? issue is simply a display issue and not a connection quality issue I'd think the best thing to do in the meantime would be to advertise your server to like-minded people. A thread here, and a bit of an advert on the Discord saying "hey, I've got an endless server, I have the ??? glitch but the server is good. Check it out" would probably better serve your intentions.

When you buy a season pass you know what you're paying for. People who buy them know they're going to play the game. I don't see the problem.

@Dunk Mujunk I understand it might sound unproductive and rude but understand we have been asking for a fix for this since october when their hotfix changed all endless servers to survival servers. I know for sure that a fix for this is incredibly simple but they are just not doing it for whatever reason, probably just don't care enough.

As for hosting my own public server with ??? ping, I don't have the time or patience to deal with that sort of thing anymore.

You are so conditioned to battle passes that you don't even find anything wrong with being forced to play the game just to get maximum value, that's how i got burned out of one of my favorite games.

I like the idea of being able to pick up and play the game on your terms and stopping when you want to stop, without being influenced by anything.

The reason battle passes are so popular and exist in so many games is because they can kill two birds with one stone, they get you to play their game more than you would want to and take your money too.

The problem is that usually season passes are designed to make players grind for items rather than just purchasing items. With bundles the player gets items and other things guaranteed and straight away but with a battle pass the player must play a certain ammount of hours a day for several days before the battle pass ends so they could get as many items as they can, if the player can't play for some time they will loose progress and it can also be the case that the player spent more on the battle pass that in what they could have spent if they just purchased the items.

People know what they get into when they gamble but that doesn't make lootboxes less scammy.

I do not like battlepasses and exploiting FOMO.
I myself found myself bored of Don't Starve and playing Oxygen not Included more (the klei pipeline works wonders), but I still play it once in a while. A battlepass in the game wouldn't make me happy.

I bought a pass once. Depending on the game, there's plenty of room of error so you don't have to play insane amount of hours during the duration of the pass.

Ye, that's true. But usually battle passes are the way you get the most value of your monet in a game. I think it's a fair trade (sometimes depending on what it has to offer).

Yes, but there are battle passes more forgiving than others. The attractive of battle passes is the value you get from them. If there was something more valuable, they would be worthless. What you're saying in the last part would only apply if you want a bunch of  specific things from the pass.

I think I didn't express myself in the best way. I meant that you know what you're buying AND it's completely on your hands.

Both loot boxes and and gambling are not scams.

I doubt that is the case when they would-

I'd say give them a bit of time, it's been less than 2 months since-

I would guess they have quite a bit on their plate, DST isn't the only game Klei has to work on after all. I don't think it's fair to say-

If your goal is simply to play on some Endless worlds, it seems you found that. Give Klei some time, enjoy some non official worlds for now, I'd bet money Klei will get it sorted eventually.

@Dunk Mujunk

Why are you going through my post history rofl, this isn't reddit.

I don't play those servers anymore because the admins abuse item spawning and expect you to play however they want to or kick/ban you.

I had asked before but what area do you live in? The group I’m apart of hosts servers all around the world and we’re always looking at finding new popular areas people want servers in. If you don’t want to post it you can always DM me.

Searching the forums relating to your issue happens to bring up quite a few of your posts, oddly enough. Believe it or not I've been trying to help you out.

a full on subscription service feels like a lot of wasted resources for a niche game. A unique battlepass through the  klei lens  and none of the fomo wouldnt be too bad, but isnt the daily and weekly login rewards that we already have just a very tame and lax battlepass anyway?

All in all feels unnecessary

Edited to add server issues should be a seperate priority for klei

I like the idea of being able to pick up and play the game on your terms and stopping when you want to stop, without being influenced by anything.

The reason battle passes are so popular and exist in so many games is because they can kill two birds with one stone, they get you to play their game more than you would want to and take your money too.

You also have to take into account if you play MULTIPLE games with a battle pass, it’s a highly annoying system that forced you to choose which games you CAN play while ignoring the ones you may WANT to play.. (Aka I would play way more DST if I didn’t also need to complete a Fortnite, Rogue Company, Fallguys, Smite, Apex Legends, Multiversus, Red Dead Redemption 2, Battlefield, Halo, Call of Duty, Minion Masters, Etc battle pass..)

It became too exhausting to the point even though I really liked some of those games: I have decided to just say screw it and deleted everything I couldn’t be bothered with playing.

If there’s one thing I can not stand it’s being FORCED to play a game just to get the content I paid for.

Sure: A game like Fortnite has an excellent battle pass system with a ton of fun and crazy objectives to keep you entertained and playing the game in a specific way throughout the course of the pass, and Fortnite is even very giving when it comes to free stuff and Vbucks.. but not every game is going to be that generous.

You’ll often find that Battle Passes for several games INTENTIONALLY try to start/end at the same time as other games, this isn’t a coincidence they’re trying to lead you around like sheep- Forcing you to prioritize which games you want to try and unlock the BP content for while ignoring the ones you don’t.

A small game like DST gets ignored and player count drops while people are too caught up in getting their battle pass objectives.

I suppose if DST HAD a battle pass and it was actually GOOD with unique crazy and fun tasks to do similar to Fortnite that in Theory it could be fun.. but personally that just adds DST to the list of games I’ll need to decide I want to prioritize unlocking content for or ignoring while I focus on the others.

Battle Passes are not a good system..

But even some games without battle passes trick players into choosing to play their game over others, from limited time events, to forcing the player to log into the game to renew their crafted buildings and feed their tames.

I deeply miss the days where I could fire up Mario, Sonic or Zelda without needing to be forced by battle passes, limited time content, or other nefarious means of making sure I’m playing THAT game and not something else I might wanna play.
