The CC summer restriction

Recommended Posts

This has been getting increasingly annoying to me. I'll be wanting to do cc in one quick go cause i find the questline fun, but then i have this huge inescapable roadblock of having to wait...
and wait...
and wait...
The questline is pretty much perfect in every other way since it takes all of the RoT and ends it off with an amazing boss but this extreme halt in gameplay just ruins my immersion and gameplay.
Klei gods please just remove the cactus flower requirement.

I guess I already saw a post about this once, and people suggested to compost wrap or tree jam (i dont remember which) to be used as a fertilizer to cactus and then make it bloom, so you will be able to do pearl quests before first summer.

with the amount of cactus flowers needed and how little glommer poops you might just end up waiting until summer anyway lol

I think players should be able to get access to Cactus Flowers through other methods. Like, imagine a Cactus boss that drops 3 cactus flowers, 4 cactus and 1 living log. Something comparable to a Treeguard but easier to spawn since its soul purpose is to circumnavigate the cactus flower problem for Pearl. Kill 4 of them and boom you have 12 cactus flowers giving you one to spare for something. Plus it would be another overworld less RNG solution to acquiring living logs albeit not en masse like with Treeguards.

You can start the game in spring, or just straight up in summer if you want to rush it even more.

Spring start is usually enough for a solo gameplay entirely focused on CC to do all the previous quests and not have to wait anything. If you can do everything in less than 20 days, then you can go summer start altogether. I haven't seen anyone be able to do that so fast yet but hey, if you can, upload it somewhere.

If you're on solo world, you can tweak the settings for example make shorter seasons or begin in new one.

If you're on public, I guarantee you, most players are glad they can survive winter as is. They don't need to have random lunar storm spawn in their base before they were able to make desert goggles.

is at the level of wurt tapestry needing kelp, just a bad way of forcing players needing to experience content that lack of something that make players not wanting to experience it like summer or early state of the sea. Both things, flowers and kelp, has nothing related to the structures that ask for them

OK here's the changes I'd make for the CC questline.

1: I don't think the flower requirement should be removed, but rather the flower should be accessible in all seasons.
Make it so there's some random flower enemy or some **** in one of those irrelevant ass caves biomes that nobody cares about, and make them drop the flower. Or just make some plant in one of those biomes that gives the flower or something. Or maybe some other unique way, as long as it's not like painfully slow to acquire it.
This not only works for the house, but for flower salad as well, it also has the additional benefit of possibly making portions of the caves more relevant.

You can also remove other seasonal restrictions, but that isn't necessarily as required as cactus flowers.

2: Just remove/rework crab king. Nobody likes it, everyone cheeses it, it demotivates a lot of people to do the questline. I feel like this has been said waaaay too many times, but I have something to say:

The main issue isn't really mainly the fact that it's just a bad boss, but more of it trying to utilize boating mechanics as a core part of the fight.
In games, like DST, on land, you can swiftly maneuver in any directions freely with little effort. All you have to do is press a button or click with your mouse and you instantly move towards that direction with no acceleration.
Unfortunately, this luxury doesn't apply to boats. If you want to move a direction on a boat, you have to walk to the other side of the boat and row. And with rowing, you have to accelerate initially if you want to move towards the directions you're headed. (And you also have sails, which by using your brain you can realize is most likely 10x worse for maneuvering)
This lack of ease of movement in directions allows for a clunky and awkward dodging system which is deemed annoying for most players

My suggestion is to add a reworked boss on the land itself, don't bother with water bosses.

3: Most people can agree that the moon storm portion is not fun and instead rather tedious for the second or third or just nth time around.
Sure, repetition can be a good factor of something becoming boring, but I don't think it should be to the point where people don't even enjoy it after the second time around.
I don't have a solution to rework or add to the moonstorm itself, my best suggestion is to shorten the time, but idk.

The average pub player will thank you for not dying to charlie daily, methinks. Pubs that get to that point almost always keep it on. Besides the "less-skilled" players all huddle up at oasis no matter what anyway, so a couple minutes of moonstorms aren't too different.

If anything it'll make them realize that afking at base and asking for food periodically is basically more hazardous for their own survival than most things outside of the pre-built base.
