lakhnish Posted September 18, 2022 Share Posted September 18, 2022 Sometimes when I first launch a world and I'm on the vignette screen, I crash. Nothing gets written into the logs. I've asked other people and they too are facing the same issue. Some people even bring it up on their own. I've asked what mods other people use and the one response I got of common mods we shared was that we both had snow tile disabler and geometric placement, so I don't think it'll be a mod issue. I've tried reproducing it but it seems to happen randomly. I think it might be something they did last update where they said they further reduced loading times or something about our pcs. Does anyone else face this issue? If you're on console, do you also face this issue? My game has been doing that too, and if it doesn't crash and close, the server fails to start and I have to do it again. My game would crash every first time I try to launch or join a world (lan only world) for the last four days. Also no dump files or log indicating where the problem might be. ADM Posted September 20, 2022 Share Posted September 20, 2022 I just wanted to share a "funny" moment, but from some time I was getting crashes while I was modding on some big stuff but only when I was testing out for results on worlds with caves, there was nothing to look after so that's the kind of thing that get me worried after hours that there's an error in my mod and I wouldn't be able to track it, happened to me again today and I remembered this topic... so I feel really relieved ! It's indeed the crash of this discussion. Also as I generally always do testing without caves (cause pc struggles a lot on DST) and that there is no issue without them, I think I can give the clue that servers with caves enabled are the only concerned by that problem, happens to me about 1/3 rate to crash during loading. Yesterday, it was only a Dedicated Server failed to start message and worked the second try, today, same world, same settings, same mods (Health info, Food values - item tooltips, epic healthbar and minimap HUD on client) I had the before described crash. Vingette, white screen, crash. Luckily it loaded fine on second try... I also get the reference error, when the game doesn't crash, so it can't be the reason. After fighting EoT I also got a similar error for the Terrarium. No idea, what's going on, but can't be that bad. I thought it was just because I'd switched computers back to one I haven't used in 2 years. I made a new world and that's working fine now. It seems, the crash only happens when Steam isn't already running in the background before the game launch, which is while it always works on second try. Maybe try this out: Start any other game that's not DST and quit out. Now Steam should still be running in the background. Try loading a DST world now and see if you still crash. Quit all Steam processes, launch the game again and try again. Maybe I'm going crazy, but for me this seems to be it.
