What is your kitchen?

Recommended Posts

I usually start like this

Then build towards this

Not very fast though.  I usually add a salt box and chest when I get them or they're needed within the first year or so, probably around day 250-300 I come back and finish it (or reroll the world and start over)

Kitchen?  You mean something like this?

(I did this originally on actual Thanksgiving, lol)

...which I might eventually upgrade to (gasp!) TWO fridges and TWO crockpots?

Yeah I'm not really fancy.  Although, fun-ish fact--the top picture and the bottom one are both different stages of the same base.  :)

My dear Maxwell, those trees are massive!

(laughs)  Ha!  I knew someone would notice/mention that, and I almost put a note about it in the original post (then decided it looked nicer how it was).  It's a mod.  Well two, actually. Here they are:

Big Birchnuts Together is the one that caused the giant tree in the picture, and

Evergreens 2gether if you want giant pine trees to match.
A few more in-game pics to show them properly:

Notice how much more DRAMATIC this looks, with the character being WAY smaller than the tree, rather than just a little.  Also gives the screen more of a feeling of...depth, going-back-ness.

"The Road Trees", which have shown Willow the road home even in the dark and/or snow, since November 2019.

Look at this.  Seriously LOOK AT THIS!  Now THIS, looks more like a proper ancient nature-doesn't-give-a-!@#$-about-our-petty-human-concerns type forest. That's why I love these mods.  They also do, in case you were wondering, give more wood.  Take longer to chop down, give more wood--all done pretty proportionally, I think.  The biggest size ones give TEN logs if you also dig up the stump, and up to 3 seeds.

One of the mods also includes tall twiggy trees:

Do they block the screen and get in your way?  Heck YES they do!  Especially the birch ones, which are super-wide at the top (although as you can see, due to their skinniness, the twig ones are nowhere near as much of a vision-blocker as the others).  This larger size, amusingly, also makes their FIRES wide, if they should catch ablaze:

(dumb joke voice) "When I said I wanted a FIREWALL, I meant I wanted it for my COMPUTER!"
(rimshot)

The bigger pine trees can make amusingly large fires, too, although usually more tall than wide:

(Charmander the Kittykit reenacts the "This is Fine" meme in front of a burning evergreen.)

Anyway um, um, um...kitchens!  Let's see if I got any more decent pictures of mine:

mmmvolcanocooking.png.f13107654b6fdbde6a256216e2c96a27.png

Well...here's Wendy learning how to cook on a volcano; does that count?

Okay fine.  The thing is, that over the years, when left to my own devices and nobody else is playing with me, I tend to be really...freaking...BASIC.  : P

megarandombase.png.36fe37f2b4b8332a4632564dea5638b0.png

Wickerbottom's camp in the "Megarandom/Multilands" world (I don't know if those mods work now).  Ignore the weird trees and Shipwrecked stuff; the KITCHEN is:  crock pot next to fridge.  With a pickle barrel ("Pickle It!" mod), I guess you can count that.  And some off-screen drying racks.

Walani's entire camp during winter of her "Hunter-Gatherer" year (first stage of my "March of Civilization" challenge. This is SUPPOSED to be super-simple.  The weird triangular thing in the bottom left is a water-collector--I also used the "Thirst" mod.

day500.png.916505bd823683334429b8defe915b08.png

A milestone day in my (so far) longest-running server (made it to day 612 before a glitched mod due to an update crashed it).  The kitchen, STILL, even on Day 500?  Two crockpots.  Two fridges.  Barrel.  : P

spookysummerlighting.thumb.png.1c222b37f61c037e538d820271d0411c.png

From this very year:  Wendy's new camp shortly after moving, in my no-mods-allowed world.  I've got more skins than I used to, but still:  Fridge. Crockpot.

willowswinterfell.png.e05500de7f97f7f57d699974c13b75af.png

And this goes AAAAALLLL the way back to the beginning of my Don't Starve career.  In this picture taken March 2016, in vanilla DS, Willow's first time making it past Day 100 was in a camp with:  a fridge and a crockpot.  :P

So yeah.  Basically I guess I'm a set-in-their-ways grumpy bachelor, only female. I find something that works for me, and stick with it forever. Heh.  Now, I HAVE built fancier stuff in a purely decorative sense, but my actual bases tend to be just what I need, with a teense more just in case and some simple floor decorations.  (shrug)
