[Speculation] "Show time"

"There is still work to be done backstage. But - we'll make sure to share something well before showtime" - Wickerbottom rework

Some people think this is a clue to the next rework being Maxwell's, something I do believe to be true.

But I think it is more probable this is referring to the next content update...

"Three "setting the stage" Content updates" - Don't Starve Together Roadmap 2022

Sounds to me like there is going to be some kind of "finally" once the content arc is finished. We've got the Moon Quay last time, I wanted to ask you what you think Klei has in store for us...

My personal theory:
I think DST is coming to an end - Only two characters left to refresh; both the shadows (fuel weaver) and the lunar champions are defeated; Charlie has acquired the ancient torch...

I think we will see two more "anomalies" from Wagstaff that will open rifts between worlds, and then there will be some kind of battle between Charlie (The dark) and Wagstaff (The light). I think by the end of it all, Wagstaff will collide reality and the constant, and the survivors will finally be able to "escape" (And then Wanda goes back in time and destroys the Codax Umbra or whatever narrative end they decide to end on, like Warly going back to his mum)

I say this, because I feel like Klei is finishing telling their story - All characters (Except Woodie) are developed; they are working on the new games as Rotwood and helping with Mind Over Magic; the last few animations have been lore heavy as if they finally play their cards they kept close to their chest... And what better way to bring an end with a "show", for which they are setting the stage?

They might continue with events such as the Gorge or Forge, but I think they will be done with DST for a time and focus on other things.

But that is just how I see it, might just be a tease of the next reworked being Maxwell's

I sure hope it's not the end, to me it seems like we're in a "It's just truly beginning" kind of situation. (The updates are called 'Setting The Stage', not 'Prepping the 3rd and Final act' after all :p)

We barely still know who Metheus even is, :flustered:. Feels like Klei has been going "oOOo Metheus is coming!" for the last 5/6 years and I'm still waiting on their appearance and full lore.

Wait, I though Matheus was the skeleton in the ruins (Ancient fuelweaver to be more exact).

Naw its formerly known the fuelweaver is the ancient king/cane bearer, the one who overused the fuel. Not the skeleton btw, the skeleton is something more ancient but its his soul that is bound to it. You can actually see in the metheus murals the cane-bearer digs up the same skeleton.

Metheus is pretty spread around on who they are. But there are more hints leading towards Metheus is the shadow eye entity we see in the murals that has yet to be revealed in-game. The original Them that Maxwell was talking about back on the throne.

Then there's the 2nd theory of Metheus being the ancient queen/torch-bearer that is also inside of Charlie and that the ancient king's name is "cyclum" which does not make sense at all. The whole point of cyclum (latin for cycle) is that its a cycle that began DST in the first place which is a complete perfect parallel with what Wilson did back in the beginning.

Couple things to note: JoeW said that everything they do in the current Roadmap schedule is in preparation for bigger more substantial content plans that set up for the next big story Arch. (Aka continuing where Eye of the Storm left off)

——————————————

Eye of the Storm was advertised as a SEASON FINALE not a SERIES FINALE- the difference is like watching a TV Series, during a Season Finale it ends with a Cliffhanger ending to be continued later, while Series finale means the entire story is completed and the show is finished forever.

DST Literally just released a few months ago on to Nintendo Consoles Klei would be giving all those new comers to the game the Middle Finger to put the game on that platform and then not support content for a few years.

However.. It is also no secret that the Switch is the lowest performing platform you can play the game on (besides maybe an ancient PC..) and They are clearly running into struggles and limitations in getting the game to work on this hardware, I give them huge Kudos for still tackling the task, but at the same time.. I feel like it’s trying to continue to support these older PC’s or the Switch that is holding the game back from getting a proper PS5 or Series X/S upgrade.

Klei devs have even stated that the PS5 and Series X/S would be fully capable of most the features the PC version has- Aka Larger worlds, higher player count, Lots More & Tons world Gen settings etc.. but due to Sony not allowing them to add anything to the game that wouldn’t also be possible on PS4- They would need to release a whole other version of the game on PS5.

Quite literally confirming that last Gen hardware is holding back the next Gen Hardware.

(I may have the wording on that a bit off and if I do someone at Klei can feel free to Correct Me if you want.)

My point is: I highly doubt Klei is going to just drop support for DST anytime soon.. but if they DO, I sincerely hope they create a “Next Gen” Dont Starve game or whatever.

We may not know who Metheus is, but we do know they are here! :O

Aint no way they are ending DST anytine soon. Is their one, safe, guaranteed source of revenue. Plus Tencent's sole reason for buying klei was so they could make their own Dont Starve mobile game. The brand is too strong and worth too much to just kill.

I think it should be noted that the moon plotline was almost entirely out of left field in and of itself. The same sort of "finality" feeling could have been described when the Fuelweaver was first defeated, but then another big plot point got introduced to keep the game going. There's really nothing stopping Klei from just pointing the story in more and more directions, they've got good writers.

they are working on the new games as Rotwood and helping with Mind Over Magic;

Oxygen Not Included, Hot Lava, and Griftlands have all been developed alongside DST, not to mention there was a long time where both DS and DST were being supported with separate content. This is nothing new. Klei's a video game company! They can handle more than one video game.

Anyway, we live in a world where a TON of games are live services, i.e something that has constant new content and events and such while you support the game via skins and battle passes, rather than sequels coming out constantly that you buy and start over with each time. I think it's honestly unlikely that Klei's going to ever move on from DST to another DS game due to this, it feels like it must be super lucrative for them compared to the years it would take to start over with a new game.

Also, this isn't really the point of the thread, but I have to say... why would the survivors want to "go home" at this point in the story? Like, Warly's got family back home he misses, but everyone else? Wilson would be going back to an empty house full of scientific failures. Willow would be going back to the streets, seemingly. Wendy would be going back to a world without Abigail. Wickerbottom would be going back to a pile of burnt rubble and her cat being long gone. Webber would be going back to a family that would never accept him the way he is now. And... they'd all have to go live those regular boring (or in some cases miserable) lives with knowledge that magic is real and is intensely screwed up and that anything like this could possibly happen to them or anyone they love in an instant.
The survivors seem to treat the Constant like a new start (especially Willow), and y'know, a found family and stuff, they even care about people like WX-78 and Wormwood who by all means shouldn't fit in so well. This place is awful, but they're absolutely making it home, and I think it would be super sad and unsatisfying if they then proceeded to go back to the "real world" and then woo yeah woo they're free yeah woo!! It'd feel... wrong. And against how the story has developed since DST became a thing at all.

I feel like its still around the middle not the end, theres still probably a lot more ahead, otherwise theyll tell us more like "the beginning of the end"
