Wickerbottom rain book should've been an item

Recommended Posts

Idk if it's just me but I've been longing for an item that can be gained from either the ocean or from one of the ocean/moon updates that allow us to control when we want it to rain. Helps out us farmers and would see more usage of the morning star for the extra damage. Could also introduce mechanics of how rain brings out more fish shoals for us who like fishing. But now I fear that we will never get that option of having an item that does that now that the functionality is being locked behind a character. And I feel like it's too niche of a function to bother switching characters just for 1 book that could easily be an item.

I think a generic rain caller mechanic could still be added in the future.

Calling it right now, it's probably going to be a machine you put ice in that crushes up the ice and shoots it into the sky, causing rain in an area.

I think it should be tuned down to only summon a short drizzle to water the plants. And the potential rain-summoning boss drop would cause a downpour lasting a day and making the mobs wet. I also don't like that the book stops the rain. It seems too powerful for such a low price.

I don’t think it’s a good idea to give any singular player the ability to impact an entire server of players experience unless that one given player is the host of their own world and your just in it as a Guest.

Wickerbottoms rain book should only effect areas around Wicker and not the whole server, And if a rain making item was added it should only effect the area around the player using it not the entire server..

Theres a reason why the BigFoot Bell doesn’t exist in DST.. or have we forgotten that?

Sure Rain & Moon powers may not be as destructive in nature as BFB.. but- They still can be used to make Woodie & WX78 players lives miserable.

Which wouldn’t be nearly as big of a problem if the spells only activated in a limited radius from Wicker.

This should also hold true for any potential Non-Wicker book item anyone can use.

I think part of the problem here is that a torch is already just as destructive toward the average base due to how ridiculously easy it is for someone's base to burn down. The only concrete difference is that the bell would be harder to stop if the base owner is actually present, but that's hardly a given for the average player.

we already can summon rain using the secondary effect of telelocator staff

i dont see what makes klei want to lock content into characters so much

if you ever joined glermz's streams you can see what i mean, he switches to wanda to use his teleportation network, but then he switches to wolfgang to move statues, but then he switches to warly to cook, then winona to build her structures, then Walter to decorate with the rounds he produces

i dont mind character swapping but it would be way more engaging if all the conent could be accesed by all of the characters, people may say that this would make them less special but this isnt quite the case

Spoiler

Though sometimes they add stuff that overshadows characters a lot like how the Grass boats make goose woodie hard to stand out

like how you can still use a lesser version of winona's catapults and winona its still relevant, or a lesser version of woby, or a lesser version of merms, there is technically a lesser version of summoning rain but its not fun to use so much of your sanity and LL supplies just to have some rain in summer

i already kinda explained why locking features into characters is not fun at all in a thread called "Dont lock teleportation into characters" https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/141742-dont-lock-teleportation-into-characters/

Unfortunately, it's already the case: any player finding the Terrarium can summon EoT or ToT who will spawn on anyone; if the pieces are ready, anyone can start the moonstorm, affecting everyone else on the server for days; starting rain by killing MG or using a telelocator staff has always been a thing on the surface.

Characters can't troll or grief, only players can, and I want to believe most players in this community are sensible.

There isn't really a good way to solve this. There are too many characters to make each one enticing enough to play for their perks alone. If all unique character content became accessible to everyone, my pool would basically shrink to just Wolfgang and WX.

The struggles of content-locking, though, is one that I think is mostly felt by solo megabasers. A lot of players hop onto pubs or play with friends and on average only grind through a few seasons, and for these players its fine to stick with whatever their group of characters can craft.

Wickerbottom finally gets a spell thats exclusive to her only for players to complain they want that spell to be avialable to eveyrone, and then libel that "everyone can do what she can, shes bland boring and not unique"

I, too, hate it when the singular entity known as People(TM) cannot make up its mind.
