Reworks/updates: Need to add 2 inventory slots

Recommended Posts

Two new inventory slots are needed, and here is why:

Reworks: Many characters now have special items that must be carried. As one example, WX now carries a scanner and then when the scanner scans it adds Bio Data which requires another slot to carry.

Updates: The updates often use a slot- for example, the Wagstaff Moonstorm. We need a slot to hold the restrained static and slots to pick up the items he needs. There are so many examples of these updates requiring extra slots.

Cursed Trinket: now takes up an inventory space.

My point is this: IF THE UPDATES ARE ADDING ITEMS WHICH MUST BE CARRIED, THEN BALANCE THE INVENTORY TO MATCH THESE REQUIREMENTS.  YES we can get backpacks, but many like to use a chest slot for armor/clothing. That's now almost unusable because of the added items.  Add two slots to compensate for all these extra items to balance it out; because right now we are all having to use mods just to take care of this oversight. This needs to be added to the main game.

Nah its fine. Maybe if there was a lot more early-game resources, but if u have them at that point u can easily just craft a backpack. It's not too much but, at least for me, have enough you have to consider whether you really need this item or not, and actually strategise instead of just picking up everything you see.

I don't know if you are a new or old player. If you are a newbie, yeah inventory sucks at first bc of the collecting behavior of human.

Inventory management is probably one of the hardest thing for new players. I lacked it once and if you are new I can share few of my experience to get used to it. Hope it helps.

First, use this mod for visual helping. Personally I make 5x3 slots with borders, so I pick one of those 5 for weapons/armors, one of those 5 for sources like grass/sticks and the last 5 for food and healing tools. Always check the non-necessary ones and storage them at base, classification is always useful.

For second, always wear a helmet but not armors (strong helmet might make you don't need a armor). You can carry armors and use it only when you get in fight. When you done with fight, wear your backpack back.

At last, use piggy backpack fast as possible. Get Krampus Sack if you are lucky. Always follow the roads and find the Chester as your first days. You might think to turning it shadow-mutated one for extra slots (imo snow is better). Also you always can try play with Walter if you are a collector/gatherer in team.

And if you/your friend accept, you can try extra inventory mods. Play game as you like if you think it's hard. No shame on it.

like sw or hamlet that added more tools and resources but the slots were the same and was okey

what is this inventory sorting? it hurts...its all over the place

Inventory sorting should be automatic if I’m being honest.

Also the entire point of the newer content and reworks adding stuff to fill up your inventory slots is so that you have more new stuff filling up inventory slots- if they add more inventory slots it depletes the entire purpose off adding new stuff you need to prioritize what’s important and what can be left in a backpack/storage box somewhere until needed.

Inventory management plays a huge role in almost any true survival game.. and despite the casual mini-games DST lures players into- at its heart and core it’s still a survival game about inventory management.

NOOO, i want my SPESIFIC sortings, not items placedd into the slots that i dont like, this has to be this and not anything else

thats the good sortin, if you force me to auto sort the tiems into stupid, then youo just goin to make it realy uncomfortalble, uncomfortable like new craft sorting tabs wich is only fixed thanks to a mod, wich sould not even be a thing at all, that a MOD need to exist to make me not feel uncomfortable at all, this here, my sortings of items is perfectly planned and my autistic lizard brain wont achept a sorting change at all, it will only hurt me and others for sure

why? isnt that hard and is very subjetive and sometimes you want to organize them in different ways like putting twigs in slot 1 cuz monkeys or frogs

Can't they add the "option" for automatic inventory sorting I remember a couple of games that had that feature.

I personally never used them but locking certain items that you're likely to use frequently in a certain order sounds plenty useful to me.

Especially for people who use controllers. It would make dropping items to make temporary space to organize less of a hassle.

I'm pretty sure you could also still just move your items around if you didn't need it auto sorted in that very moment or just turn it off it it ever gets added.

not against that but that is already achieve by placing items in the left side of the bar

What if you don't want it on the left.

That's just not sophisticated enough and doesn't sound like much of a reason to be against improving auto sorting as a feature.

I mostly just want it so I can dump all my items on the floor and when I pick up my usual kit for exploring it's all in it's usual spot I put it without the extra work of moving it all around by hand.

Organizing any inventory screen with a controller is really clunky and slow so any quality of life improvements to speed that up will be much appreciated.

I'm sure even PC players would appreciate it even if it's not needed nearly as much.

See- the thing is (if you’ve ever played the game on Xbox for longer then a few hours) inventory management is a pain in the butt with a Xbox Controller- I’m not sure about PlayStation or Switch but I Assume they are in the same category..

Look at every video or screenshot I’ve ever posted- my inventory is always a jumbled mess- but that’s no fault of my own doing..

Anytime the player needs to swap between walking cane or weapon or harvesting tool and light source the inventory scrambles itself up- this part of the game isn’t fun it’s actually just annoying..

To make matters worse- Unless you read the wiki or look into the game files your not going to know that mobs prioritize stealing things from left to right.

On Ark Survival Evolved for example: There is a dedicated slot specifically just for “taming” creatures with.

I don’t find having to move my inventory around to be fun, like State of Decay 2- Weapons go in Weapon Slot, Melee Weapons go in Melee Slot and when they’re in the backpack.. Press (Whatever Button) to Auto swap the currently equipped one for the one in the backpack.

The Drag move and drop features are a painful relic of Keyboard and Mouse design- and at least on Xbox, it is NOT fun..

Ive observed thousands of hours of players playing on PC through Twitch- and what is painfully easy for them like swapping between a weapon and a walking cane to avoid getting hit with perfect kiting skills- is near impossible on Console.

Again this isn’t any fault of our own doing.. it’s because I Can’t just do something like assign a slot to the Y button (inspect stuff on Xbox) and bind a second item to Y button and when say I’m hovering over my weapon in my inventory- Y can swap to it, and swaps the weapon to the Walking cane- Pressing Y again while the cane is hovered over in inventory: swaps it back out for weapon.

This would be a massive QoL for controller players..

it really is cuz you dont put everything in the left size and organized by which character slot uses: every hand slot item together, every head slot item together, etc

you can see both pc and console players having awful inventories because of that. The inventory works the same for all the game versions, just changes the peripheral you use to play it

Huh, I sort my inventory like this, only difference is I put tools before armour/hats instead of after, basically next to my materials.

The best option if you don't have it on the left side it to give every tool and clothing item it's own designated item slot.

Annoying but it does the job.....

Spoiler

Until you pick something up and it takes up that slot.

Maybe, but again this game requires a lot of switching in and out of different items in your inventory- Getting cold? Equip hat, stand too close to raging campfire? Remove hat, Summer just started? Replaces regular fires with Endo Fires, did it just get dark? Equip torch or light source, hounds coming? Equip weapon and body armor- Starving? Eat that meaty stew in your inventory- boat just sprung a leak? Scroll to boat patches and apply them, All of this causes the inventory to “uncategorize” itself.

I imagine that on PC it isn’t much of a problem because you can just press 1,2,3,4 whatever on Keyboard or drag and click with mouse- but on console: It’s all done by dragging your analog stick through your inventory and selecting what you want.

Ark survival evolved let’s you “bind” specific items to specific button inputs such as-

as you can see here left, up, right, down on D-pad are all bound to left hand side of screen: while holding in LB and pressing X,Y,B,A & Left, Right D-pad access the other 5 inventory slots towards the right hand side.

Its less scrolling and Instant access to what you need when the situation calls for it.
