What If... Big Treeguard Boss?

I was thinking of this from a reddit post, 

 That post got me, and evidently a few others on the subreddit thinking. How would you summon it? what would it drop? how does it attack? I would like to discuss it with people on here, too. the OP is ok with this.

Just thought of at least one attack. FIG GRENADES. I know nothing about game development, so this is just an idea that I thought of. Maybe the boss will drop / throw large figs at you/your boat. you can pick them up kind of like statues, and throw them, either off the boat, or back at him for some damage.

It's can be amphibian fight, like Tigershark. Tree, that can't reach the land, but chase you on the water. That figrenede could help chase player on the land.

it's not only about boss design, it's also about water movement. just compare Shipwrecked and DST boats mobility. 

For instance, even if we will count DST boat as land, and tiger shark will jump on it, you will have nowhere to dodge because it's attack radius is that huge and the boat is so small.

new boat from beta, bumpers, battle row, even cannons

all water fights will be much better.

Here can be 2 types of water attacks: directly to player, and to the boat, maybe growing spikes, which damage boat.

Also it can summon water spiders, why not.

But if you retreat and jump on land, it lose his boat attack and mobility, attack player only if he close to boss, throw figrenade.

And it should destroy structures on the land, I think

speed is still the same - the fastest boat can reach is using 2 feather sails, and you need a significant amount of time to break and retreat. 

In shipwrecked, even swimming without any sail or iron wind provides you with enough speed to dodge single attacks, and the breaking is almost instant no matter the sail, while boat receives all the damage and not the player.

As I said, you need mobility for fights in most situations, and DST boats unconditionally lack it.

But you don't need to move boat while fighting. You can get benefit from bosses attacks.

For example, make boss immune to attacks. The only way to deal dmg - is chopping down spike from his boat attack.

So you need to provoke it to attack your boat and then chop down spike.

Maybe also deal dmg via fire, and add a cool animation for extinguishing. Like boss should grab some water and shower itself.

It can help save boat durability and resources.

 

I think Klei can make cool fight that don't tie to speed

That's honestly a cool way to mix up combat, and make boat fighting unique. make it immune to certain damage, like regular weapons, and make it's attacks its own weakness. Good idea.

It's also can be new cool animation, if player hit boss. Player feels impact from hit and stuns for a few seconds.

Also boss can be not immune to dmg, but have ~90% protection, but weapon durability drops faster.

And fire should deals in 3-5 times more damage per second.

Oh, s... it can be not just coolest water fight, it can be coolest fight in the entire game!
