We need jerk characters/npcs?

Recommended Posts

Thinking about all the side characters in Elden Ring makes me wonder if we need more cruel or shifty npcs to keep players on their toes. Perhaps extensions of Mactusk or sapient opponents that could do the player wrong.

We kind of saw this with the masked pig in Hamlet and I think we can explore that mechanic in the future.

What do you guys think?

Should we have some crafty and jerk characters we can secretly like and want to kill?smeel.png.789cb34c1e8f67da8cb03750d2eee959.png

Jerk Characters/NPC are hard to write since they need to be a jerk but also useful enogh to not get kill.

I dont know if the DST playerbase at large could handle a mean character without revolting.

People love Maxwell. :wilson_sneaky:

They love the reformed DST version.

I guess there's always Griftlands.127783363_smithwoozy.png.03217d23ad7c5b1a52811007c377c77e.png

Its just the shifting tone of the game. Maybe things are too depressing in real life for them to be in a videogame. I'll never forget when the community successfully got klei to change Wheelers ingame frown to a smile, when she is trapped in a metaphorical hell.

They would just get killed or kicked out, the group's survival is more important than anything else, characters can have flawed but flawed doesn't mean they have to be evil, DST character is anything but flawless.

evil guy from the trade inn?

Curio Collector isn't evil. He does have a higher up/boss we have no clue about if you stay long enough to hear him talk about it.

So his boss might be evil but we don't know. Something about "He gives me distance" or something like that.

Compare the original cast of characters to newer releases:

A scientist who will do whatever means necessary to achieve success

An insane orphan pyromaniac

A depressed twin haunted by her dead sister

A crazy hermit who lives in the woods who may or may not have killed his wife with an axe

A librarian who knows and has seen too much **** so much so she cant sleep at night

A boy who was eaten by a spider

A strong dumb man who cowers in fear at any sign of danger

There used to be nauance and dark humor when it came to characters,  now we get lonely plant, baby merm girl, time traveler, and a literal boyscout

Not every character needs to have to be dark, the new characters are just as good if not better, I personally dislike the original 9 and like the newer ones, it is fine to not have dark stuff in your backstory it make the cast feel more diverse you know, and what do you mean the newer character don't have nuance DST and DLC character are more nuances than DS cast.

It’s just how you describe them… in another way, Wormwood could be a creature of myth linked to the strange power of the “moon” and the background of Wurt is also questionable because despite her identifying with the merms, she has horns and might actually be of another descent(linked to the Gorge maybe?) and Walter is so confidently assuming his new companion who oscillates between a small animal and a beast as large as a beefalo to be a dog. And not to mention Wanda, she’s so cursed.

An NPC like Jerkimedes, from pit people. From the pit people wiki:

It is revealed later on in his story arc that his hat was purchased at a thrift store, and has suspicious (albeit vague) origins. When worn, this hat gave Jerkimedes powers beyond human capability. He'd been merely a regular jerk before, but the hat transformed him into Jerkimedes, a magical man who's jerkiness is on a cosmic scale.

I'd like some clarifications about the being selfish part. She literally tried to warn the characters about Maxwell.

not realy, she only mentions that she wanted to tell them something, but forgot what, and the selfish part is because she has never time for something

Maybe not against Maxwell, but

Although you could argue that she might have been doing this for selfish reasons

Just a bonus:
