Don't Starve Together Patch 2.39 - 03/24/2022 (PlayStation 4)

Hey everybody!

The March Quality of Life update is now live for all players! Once again, a huge thanks to everybody that joined us on the beta branch and sent in feedback and suggestions. That feedback directly helped influence and improve the final design of the new crafting menu.

There are still a few things that will be added throughout the next week(s). These include: Adding pages for the pinned recipe bar and changing them to be stored on the profile instead of per world, a system to support crafting refined ingredients directly from the currently selected recipe, optimizations, and mod support for adding new filters.

Crafting Menu Changes:

  • Recipes are now organized in filters, logical groups of items that fulfill a role.
  • Recipes can be pinned to the right hand side of the menu for easy access while the crafting menu is closed.
  • Recipes can be added to a favorites list by clicking the star icon next to the recipe's name.
  • Search by localized name.
  • The size of the crafting menu can be scaled separately from the rest of the HUD.
  • Players can now move and rotate their camera while the menu is open.
  • You can now craft with items inside chests.
  • Crafting Auto Pause can be enabled in the Options screen.
  • Added the setting 'Crafting Auto-Close' to enable or disable closing of the crafting menu when pre-crafting placeable structures. When the build button is labelled 'Place' the crafting menu will still close regardless of the setting. This can be found in the Advanced settings page.

Note about the crafting menu changes.

We are very aware that this is a drastic change however, moving away from the old menu allows us more freedom when adding craftable items. For example, the Tackle Receptacle and Terra Firma Tamper were only added because we did not want to add a dozen recipes into the survival and structures tab. With the new approach, this is no longer an issue. The Tackle Receptacle and Terra Firma Tamper have been changed to research stations, like the Science Machine, where you will be able to prototype the recipes, learning them forever.

We know that change can be difficult for some players. Please give the new menu a chance, consider the above information and let us know if you have any feedback or suggestions over on the official forums

Wolfgang Changes:

  • Added the Marbell, a dumbbell made of marble. These are very heavy, but much more effective and durable than Golden Dumbbells.
  • Improved the efficiency, durability and ingredient cost for all dumbbells.
  • Mighty Wolfgang can now perform a melee attacks with Dumbbells.
  • Adjusted the damage dealt by Dumbbells.
  • Dumbbells now gain Wolfgang's mightiness bonus when thrown.
  • Adjusted the Dumbbell durability cost when lifting, attacking, and throwing.
  • Improved efficiency of the Mighty Gym.
  • Mighty Wolfgang now retains full movement speed while holding any heavy items.
  • Increased the top rowing speed when Wolfgang is Mighty.
  • The ambient mightiness drain rate has been adjusted.
  • Running with dumbbells equipped or raising an anchor will now pause the mightiness drain.
  • Wolfgang now gains a small amount of mightiness while chopping, mining, tilling, raising sails, rowing, etc.
  • Wolfgang now gains mightiness while attacking, based on the type of target.
  • Wimpy Wolfgang now does 25% less 'work' when chopping, mining and hammering, but also does 25% less wear on tools.
  • Wimpy Wolfgang now has a 25% slower hunger drain.
  • Wimpy Wolfgang no longer takes 25% more damage.
  • Adjusted the Wimpy and Mighty form insulation values.
  • Mighty Wolfgang now has an easier time saying warm and a harder time saying cool, while Wimpy Wolfgang is the opposite.
  • Fixed a bug where his movement speed was not being calculated correctly while hoping onto boats while mighty or wimpy.
  • Fixed a bug that caused Wolfgang's mightiness to reset to 50 if you went to the caves with full mightiness.
  • Fixed a bug where Wolfgang continued lifting weights after unequipping a dumbbell.

Other Changes:

  • Ancient Guardian is a new fight. This is not intended to be a hard boss fight, but to be more fun than the previous version.
  • Ancient Guardian's loot table revised, better reflecting the biome and that you have to kill the Ancient Fuelweaver in order to fight it again.
  • Deerclop's attack area more accurately reflects the fx.
  • Hound waves and Depths worm waves frequency has been adjusted to reduce their frequency after the first year.
  • Late hound waves replace 5 hounds onto a Varglet, the smaller cousin to the Varg.
  • Tips and lore have been added to the loading screen.
  • The Options screen now has descriptions for each of the settings.
  • Roads can now be disabled in the world generation settings (on or off).
  • Fire and Ice Hounds can now be toggled in the world settings.
  • Multiple world events (Winters Feast, Year of the Carrat, Midsummer Cawnival, ect) can now be enabled at the same time, you can find these new settings in the world settings menu.
  • The Stagehand and Shadow Hands (the campfire stealing hands) no longer trigger spider creep.
  • Kitcoons will no longer reset their hiding spots when the YOT Catcoon event is turned off and back on. Any Kitcoons that are missing from the world will be respawned.
  • Fixed a bug causing bearger to sometimes not spawn.

Prototyping and Blueprints:

  • Wax paper, beeswax, and marble beans are now prototyped with the Alchemy Engine.
  • Turfs crafted from the Terra Firma Tamper are now prototyped so you do not need to return to the Terra Firma Tamper every time you want to craft one.
  • Lures, floats, and bobbers crafted from the Tackle Receptacle are now prototyped so you do not need to return to the Tackle Receptacle every time you want to craft one.
  • Adverts are now learnable like Blue Prints and are no longer placed inside a Tackle Receptacle.
  • Birds no longer drop Adverts.
  • The Waterfowl Can, Feather Weave, and Winged Sail Kit no longer require a blueprint drop from the Malbatross.
  • The Boat Patch, Oar, and Driftwood Oar no longer require the Think Tank to prototype.
  • Survivors other than Wurt, can now craft Marsh Turf through the Terra Firma Tamper.
  • Increased the chance of getting the Desert Goggles Blueprint in the oasis lake's Crumpled Packages.
  • Removed Fashion Goggles and Potted Succulent Blueprints from the oasis lake's Crumpled Packages. They can now be prototyped using an Alchemy Engine.

Items:

  • Adjusted the repair value of Logs from an eighth of the Boards' value to a quarter. This improves repairing with Logs, Driftwood, and Living Logs.
  • Doubled the Cookie Cutter Shell drop rate.
  • Reduced the fuel value of all turfs.
  • Turfs stack was increased from 10 to 20.
  • Seeds will now last twice as long while in the Seed Pack-It.
  • Desert Goggles now provide a small amount of protection from overheating.
  • Kitschy Idols no longer spoil.
  • Increased the Malbatross Beak's uses to reflect that it is a boss drop.

Recipes:

  • Reduced the cost of Boat Patches. The boat repair value has been adjusted to reflect the new cost.
  • The recipes for Mud Turf and Cobblestones no longer include other turfs.
  • Reduced the cost of the Clean Sweeper and Seawreath.
  • Reduced the cost of Potted Ferns and Potted Succulents.

Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed a bug causing beeboxes to not grow honey when unloaded if they were unloaded in winter.
  • Fixed a bug that made Farm Soil prevent Toadstool from spawning Sporecaps.
  • Fixed a rare crash when pausing the game.
  • Added fx when the Bird Cage is destroyed.

New Item Skin Collection!

This new collection of 12 new skins can be purchased in The Gothic Belongings Chest for $11.99usd. As always, these items are also available as drops in game and are weaveable using spool.

New Streaming Drops!

mastupgrade_lightningrod_nautical_trio.png

The Serpentine Storm Eater skin for the Lightning Conductor has been added to the streaming drops Nautical Collection. For a list of participating streamers, please see the official post here.

That's it for now!

I know we mentioned big news last week, but it needs a little more time before we can announce. Hopefully we'll be able to get it out in the next couple weeks.

While part of the team has been working on putting in the final touches on the crafting menu changes, the rest of the team has been hard at work on the next two updates.

One of those updates is the next character refresh. I wonder who it might be?

And with that, we are done. I think. Oh, yeah. You probably want one of these. Have fun out there everybody!

NOTE: There was an issue with the Xbox One build and we were just notified that it did not pass Cert. The build will be delayed and most likely will not be out until tomorrow. We're sorry for any inconvenience.

Thank you guys.
The new update GUI is outstanding for split-screen. By increasing the canvas size ("up to 10") now everything is not so microscopic.

I still have to test it a little more and then I think I will open a threadh about this on console.

Cheers !

1.Not comfortable new crafting menu . Please make a switch in a settings to change it . I want to play with old version. :wilson_cry: 2.All recipes repeats very often and poorly organized..  it’s just uncomfortable to move in crafting menu if u play on ps4 ! Maybe if u play with keyboard it’s easy U can pick what U need just with one click but on ps4 it’s very difficult . 3 The line with hints has a darkening that does not look very nice. 4 And I can’t move To my backpack or helmet side! For now it’s all what I have ..and again please make a option in a settings to change new crafting menu to old one I can’t play like this ..

Hmm, I do not know how to feel about the new UI... it needs time for sure to feel right.. but I kinda feel that it was built for M&K only! Don't get me wrong! the old UI is bad and I do not want it back, but not this one! it doesn't work for console/controller... it is slow and it take ages to find something.

The R3 needs some movement speed, maybe a little bit higher than what it's now?!

Regardless, we needed the change and I hope it will feel much better with time using the controller.

These are my highlight from the QoL update!! AMAZING job Klei and to be able to craft 4 turfs from one craft it's life changing :D. much love...

Indeed it's more fun now than what was before... I love the new fight, being able to fight him legit feels much more excited than before. 10/10.

Thank you Klei, thank you so much for this update, the game is changing and I like what is happening and can not wait to see what the future is holding...

Same here I have issues with unequipping my helmet and backpack with a controller is there a way on console to do it ?

Thanks guys for your hard work on this game!

Sorry but this new crafting tab is unplayable on ps4, please make a setting to choise the old tab.

For me and me friends now is impossible to drop backpack and hat without replace it with another item, this is annoying.

Please make us happy and fix this, thanks!

I need the old version UI, the new UI is a disaster on PS4.I need used cross key and the left sticks and right sticks and look everywhere to make a item. maybe PC users can control it with only one hand and one mouse, but in ps4.....this new UI makes me feel insulted.

now dear klei, please make a choice, hand over the old version UI ,or lose a player.

Ok let us chill with the "bring back the old one or I'll riot" mentality, and instead give your feedback so the devs can know what's wrong with the new UI and what's needed to be changed or added.

I'm with you all that the new UI doesn't feel comfy, but with "time" we all going to forget the old one and how bad it was...

What time? This new UI is almost unplayable with a controller.

Why the necessity to be "soft" with this change?

We need SEVERAL IMPROVEMENTS with this UI to make it playable with a controller.

For ex: when you go to your fav tab, to make a item you can't just press X, you must press L2, then X, then L2 again.

When you are in your inventory, chest, backpack, then you go to left, suddenly you go to your fav tab!! Why??? Then you must go right to go back...

Why so many duplicate items on different categories? It's so annoying with a controller or not.

And: where is the "go back function" with circle? Every time I press circle, it's intuitive, every game circle is "esc". I was thinking my controller had a problem on circle button. Tks God it's just a poor configuration of this UI, where to go back you must press the same button again.

The fact is that this UI is not thinked for work with controller, is very frustrating. You need to switch, find, reswitch a lot of time Whit the sticks and is so unnatural, but if you use a mouse...

This tab is absolutely perfect for a keyboard-mouse player, but for a controller player the old one is the right choice.

Yeah, we need a lot of gesture to handle a simple task. I had to put autopause on when i use the menu, we need a lot of time to find stuff, i know we have the favorite tab but it's not enough.

Also frustrating the not go back function and when you scroll left it's goes to menu. We have to get used to it but right now it's not very useful how stuff were sorted.

On the other side there is something good: move when the menu is open and fav things on the right. This menù for console is equal of the rework of wolfgang: totally a mess.

We console player have to struggle a lot, i hope in future they'll make a QoL just for console. Quick suggestion: change the way you use the teleport (Wortox useless right now, lazy explorer) and how to use the weather pain. Also we beg you in all language, make a sort of geometric placement, it's easy, made the structure buildable like walls, they use a grid, why structure not?

The new crafting UI is not terrible, but I can not say it is great either.

What really frustrates me are two things. 1 is how after you make a selection your highlighted cursor goes back to the beginning. I feel like it's incredibly slow navigating this menu and in general over and over. Huge oversight. And 2 is how the same items pop up under multiple filters. (maybe make an advanced setting where users can customize their crafting tab filters? I can see how this is good for first time players, but with a few game sessions I think the old layout was incredibly more intuitive for a controller player).

I think the best of both worlds would of been to keep the old layout but also add favorites. On keyboard and mouse this feels smooth and proper. Needs a lot of tweaking to get it right for controller.

Also someone mentioned Wortox Soul Hop issue and the Melee only range of the Weatherpain and I fully agree. Please fix the function of these for console controller users.

I appreciate the devs for your hardworking. I think on PC the state of the game is the best it has ever been. Tweaking the bosses. Fixing Wolfgang. Giving Woodie the slight nudge he needed with his idols (still think his forms can use a very slight buff, but the direction your heading is perfect).

Thank you!

Here are my 2 suggestions so far for the new UI...

  • The R3 needs more momentum and speed when we are navigating the tabs and recipes, it feels so slow right now in comparison to the old UI, and you need to click so much just to move a little quicker. It will be so cool if we even have this as a setting, to set how fast/slow we want to navigate within the tabs.

  • The R3 in the inventory lost something really important, which is back then when you are in the last slot in the right/left and you click one time, you will move to the other side of the inventory, which was really helpful, but now the R3 has two functions, one is acceptable and meaningful which is going "UP" will lead you to the pinned recipes, but when you go to the far left you will also go to the pin recipes instead of going to the far right! Which is really bad in my opinion. Having just one way to go to the pin recipes is great and it's more than enough.

I know these may sound really silly, but many will appreciate these changes, and the UI will feel more like home, just like the "O-circle" when it was taken out, it felt really strange, and I'm really thankful it will be back and function the same, just hoping it will be the same with the R3.

Are you sure that it ever wrapped around the ends? I installed an older build (2.37) and scrolling the inventory stops at the ends (check out the video)
Or maybe you mean something else.

Will now I'm not sure to be honest! I could swear that we could move from end to end?!! I might just thought that we actually could do that! I'm sorry for troubling you to download an old build... my bad.

Pretty sure it never moved to the other side, and if it ever did.. it was likely during a older update that got patched some time ago, although- If this was added in officially & it did warp around that way it would be a pretty cool way of allowing console players faster access to the left & right sides of their  backpack inventory.

But can you please change it so that I can’t actually move completely out of my Inventory & into the new Pinned Tab with the Analog stick? LT to move to pinned favorites, LT while in pinned favorites to move to Full Craft UI.

I was thinking the same thing. I was pretty sure it hits back to right when you reach the end left side.

A mandela momento.

Thanks for adding it tho.
