Dismounted tamed Beefalos are in constant danger!

Recommended Posts

With all these great touches on old stuff in the beta, I'd like to suggest that the tamed beefalos get a little tweak:

Currently unmounted, it takes more damage from other mobs, like the bearger, which deals 100 damage to players and 200 to mobs, so beefalos can be quickly annihilated by any small group of mobs, even bees.

My suggestion is to remove this increased damage (simple) or increase your resistance/health unmounted.

To add, the beefalo might have some way of showing it is low health, a face change like in print (maybe this is already implemented?), or a health badge.

Thanks for caring about the old stuff, maybe the caves will have their turn  :wilson_blush:  Thank you all!

If your Beefalo is tamed.. but bond to a Bell… just drop the bell on the ground someplace safe and it won’t wander too far away from the bell while you go off to do whatever dangerous thing it is you need to go do.

Alternatively the Year of the Beefalo craftables all remained in the game- Bell, Grooming Station and uhh oh Yeah Hitching Post.

Build one of those and take your bell bonded Beefalo to it and it’ll say “Hitch” this makes it stay at this post even IF you keep the Bell in your inventory.

The Beefalo is not bound to YOU it’s Bound to the Bell your holding or the post you hitch it to.., and… If you leave the Server as long as this bell is in your inventory: The Beefalo leaves the server with you.

It doesn’t matter if it’s 1% tamed or 100% tamed- It will forever be bound to the Bell.. as long as you DONT break the Bond to the Bell.

If Klei made Beefalo the way your wanting them.. then “I” could exploit this by taming, and putting saddles onto a bunch of Beefalo and they would be ridiculously overpowered without riders on them.

would be nice if they receive player damage instead of mob damage

also remember that if your beefalo start a fight you can run far away with the bell in your inventory to make him unload which might save his life

Being a good beefalo rider is about knowing how to navigate these dangers and shortcomings imo. Because they certainly are not insurmountable or excessively hindering. It all comes down to knowing when to be careful and how to approach dangerous situations. Don’t haphazardly dismount in the swamp, don’t dismount near rook setpieces in the ruins, if not fully domesticated always remount before engaging in long combat, always carry a panflute/STS when engaging in dangerous combat, … etc

you only have to learn these lessons a couple of times before beefalo deaths become a thing of the past.

I personally like that domesticated beefalos remain beefalos with the same ordinary beefalo mob mechanics and don’t just become a dead tool at the player’s disposal.

I just want a way to revive them. Tbh 20-15 days to get another one back up and running isn't too bad for infinite durability weapon. The issue I'm having is I get attached to one beef and having it die (though very rarely) is usually when I stop using beefs all together for that world. It's just not the same.

It could be as expensive as they want to make it, I'd just like to have the option. I'd give up a krampus sack even.

I would love this idea. Especially now that we have a whole tab dedicated to beefalo riding it would be nice to see some new items and/or structures which could add some more flavor to beefalo.

I really enjoyed zelda botw’s horse god, who can revive horses for a 1-time fee. I think smth similar to that in DST would be nice, like there’s a structure somewhere in the world and if a beefalo dies you need to take a pilgrimage there with an offering to the beefalo gods to get your beefalo back.
