Dear Klei, Thanks

Thanks Klei.

Really, thanks a lot.

I can't hide it anymore, but the last year of dst hasn't been particularly enjoyable, atleast for me. From the sale of tencent, less transparency, a weird bland and not at all good ending for Return of them after 2 years of hype, some minor problems and now the drama around Wolfgang, I was starting to have a lot of doubts about the company and the future of dst. Especially after some rumors and acts about the development behind Wolfgang and other.....

I was preparing for "Here we go. Another team i loved and inspired me, becoming generic company AAA with the same mistakes". I'm surprised you proved me i was wrong. Almost all companies never do this. In fact Klei could easily have chose to move on. Instead they didn't.

It seems not too much and maybe this new improved Wolfgang and finally a new true Ancient Guardian could have or/and lead more problems. Maybe Klei will do more mistakes with this new revolutionary patch.... BUT atleast they acknowledge it and they're trying to fix it. This is what matter the most for me.

I'm now more happy to engage this new year of dst more than ever and remember!

Don't Starve..... together!

must admit i feel like its a bit of an overreaction to be worried about the future of dst and klei becoming another "generic AAA company" over like... you not really being a fan of eye of the storm, and wolfgang tweaks taking a little while? (when the initial rework was released like a week before christmas, so of course it was going to)

im glad youre happy and hopeful about the game again, but purrhaps maybe you should try not to react quite so strongly to a couple updates not being to your liking

I see so many people complain and whine about eye of the storm but... Why? I don't see anything particularly bad about it. It added about as much content as one could ask for in one update. A new endgame boss, a massive event, and not to mention lots of lore for those who care about it. So if anyone can clue me into why so many people hate on that update it would be cool. Thanks.

i guess they were expecting some kind of conclusion about who is them but the update is clearly setting the stage to future stuff with the moon, charlie and wagstaff as protagonists

my only complain is that it didnt come with more moon tier recipes and that we dont use the moon storm ingredients outside of summoning CC

OK that's kinda fair but this isn't really the type of game that just reveals all these well hidden secrets just like that. I'd say that's kind of like hoping the next update goes into detail about how the constant came to be, how maxwell trapped them there, and what every character's life was like before being taken into it. They don't reveal every part of the story at once, but rather as small bits over time that you need to piece together yourself.

Edit(Yes i agree I have so much moon glass and I can't even make walls out of it or anything.)

another edit (Also I kind of just assume 'them' is the celestial powers/gods/??? like celestial champion.)

I didn't really like how the moonstorm has nothing else to offer than the CC summon. A whole new weather event just to summon another raid boss isn't something I'm really a big fan of. CC is a very cool boss! I just wish they weren't really only the main piece of content in my eyes.

I really hope it'll lead to new weather events eventually like a roaming blizzard in winter or hurricane in the spring.

I don't know how much you followed Don't Starve but i did since 2013.

I'm one of the so called """veterans""". I saw and experienced all the history of Klei and ds. I get why you're saying this. From a perspective of a new player this seemed nothing but if i say.... just for example, the keyword "hamlet". It will trigger PTSD in so many players here. Klei did a lot of mistakes (as normal human beings), they repeated similar ones and again, some events this year raised more questions and doubts and it doesn't stop to strongman being destroyed. Just a frendily reminder, we finally got now a true boss battle of a forgotten, really questionable, boss fight which was the key of... everything in dst, to even access the first final boss, after 7 years.

Before the upcoming update, my feelings weren't "This year was so bad, that now i can't look you anymore Klei". The game is obviously still great and 2021 was just more a filler year. The only bad year/s was the period before the revolutionary 2019, when having an update was like founding water in the desert. It was just disappointment.

Thanks for the suggestion i guess, but i'll remain in my ""overreaction"" because i had/have a lot of reasons to raise uncertainties in regards, instead of "I don't like strawberry cakes, therefore it's bad".  :encouragement:

I'm not flexing to anyone or need to prove you're a real gamer, chill. You're defenitely overracting to my "overracting".

Good for you. They still sucks tho unfortunately.

I actually think the opposite. I think that the game is great and getting more engaging as time goes on. The only update that I particularly did not like was the Wolfgang rework, I just think that update made the benefits of Wolfgang not worth it to continue playing as him (the dude eats too much AND has to workout every 10 seconds to be playable).

I think gamers often set their expectations way too high. This is especially true if you are a veteran of a game or series. It is easy to find a game stale, or get bored of it and expect something more or different to find it engaging. They want the next addition or update to do what they think is best for the series, and not take into consideration keeping the legacy of the game in tact.

This is what happened to games like Battlefield. Hardcore BF players loved BF3 and BF4, but hated BF1 and BF5 which came after. I very much enjoyed BF5 despite all of the "enthusiasts" putting the game down. With that being said though, I think people set their expectations low after BF5, and it is universally agreed that BF2042 was a disaster.

I am a relatively new DST player, I started playing in 2020, but I still find the game engaging and the updates have kept it fresh. I am very excited to adjust to the changes of the game. Cheesing the Ancient Guardian was too easy, I am really looking forward to an actual fight. I have been playing video games for most of my life, and my steam account is almost 20 years old... and I still find DST and its subsequent updates to be top notch work.

To each his own I guess.

I forgot to mention, and I am not sure if anyone else has mentioned this but... We might have to take into account a global pandemic. It is easy for gamers to think that the game creators can sit at home all day and write code or something, but they have actual lives, families, responsibilities and I am sure that covid was at the very least a speedbump for most industries.

filled with annoying bugs...

do you have examples of such? the only time i can remember that ive encountered a hamlet bug that was intrusive was just a time where pig bandits seemingly stopped spawning for a long time.

has been a while since the last time i played but i can recall mobs being stuck in ruins or in lakes (very annoying if you paid 10 oincs for having a follower that will be stuck), camera turning non stop every time the game is saved while you turn the camera, reviving inside of interiors make you spawn in the void (rip console player worlds), skyworthy breaking mechanics and chester (i have a colony of chester in one of my biomes) and i have experience many minor ones that i cant recall and is not only about bugs is about how half baked it is and how in need of a refresh are some mechanics, items and mobs

but i guess that for 3e i cant ask for more but idk if is a good publicity for klei to make such bad moves

Yeah i got one, build a slanty shanty and try place a door with the interact key intead of clicking, instant crash every time. I've also heard that hammering a rug with a structure on it causes a crash too. There many visual and audio bugs too, like sometimes hamlet mobs wont play their death animation, lighting in interiors or in fog being broken with lightning or full moon, hearing the sounds of the pig ghosts in interiors after ending the aporkalypse, autumn fight music in the aporkaylpse or i had this one recently where pugalisk just didn't spawn after taking the magic water. I could be happy with Hamlet being left like this content wise, but the bugs are just so painful.

Tbh I was only upset with the Wolfgang rework and it was for pretty justified reasons, standing around isn't fun, if new Wolfgang didn't gain mightyness from anything but bells + needed to stand still with them I'd still probabaly complain, but I complain because I love the game and want it to improve and improve it does.

Exactly! This is the best period so far to play Dst. In fact i said this:

I want to add tho that the "global pandemic" is not really a good excuse. Yes global pandemic exist, but we never declared to want every 3 months an update. That's what the company decided, probably to copy all the others generic AAA companies and already proved many of the team to be burned out by this (if the rumors are true). If it was for me, i would never put this schedule for Klei.
