Gi-Go
I disagree. I think new Wolfgang fits perfectly into his strongman role now. I don't get why people make big deal out of the "game flow is broken" thing, I thought noone cares about speedruns? So then how come people unable to stand still for 10 seconds? I couldn't care less if it dosen't fit into the big 5 actions, it's still the same thing gameplay wise. I run to base to use crafting station, camp fire, cookpot and other buildings. And now I'll also use gym. Also, the category of reworks is nice but I find it interesting how only Wendy fits into third one, while Wes lost his identity of being a challange charcater. And about it being hard for devs to satisfy everyone and how that would require a lot of resources... no it wouldn't. All you had to do, was keep the damn speed, Klei! Gi-Go
Just now, Captain_Rage said: That would rather sum up Wickerbottom and Walter. xd You take that back! Wikerbottom was called the best character not because her perks were overpowered. It was because her perks were so fun - Wiker mains became blinded by their love towards them. It's the same for the big 3. I've seen people who loved perks of wiker, wolf or wx78 so much, that they couldn't help but giggle and mention how their character is the best - every time they did some small silly thing using their perks. Another twig here piping in. This is entirely true. I can happily wear sweaters when other people are sweating but crave extra insulation when other people are wearing tank tops and shorts. Pig Princess
6 hours ago, Toros said: I disagree about people not staying mighty with old Wolfgang I disagree with you too: I played with moderately skilled people and watched them stay normal outside of boss battles/clearing ruins unless local Wormwood generated so much food that it was going to rot anyway. I also watched highly skilled people doing speedruns (Joeshmorecoolstuff, KoreanWaffles, Guille) and even then they preferred to stay normal (in speedrun, mind you!) unless one or more of the following conditions were met: a. Juicy berry world or other cases when food was going to rot should player not become mighty (bunnymen village hammering, beefalo herd extermination, etc.); b. Very quck speedrun (like day 1-2 [insert name] kill); c. Player was expecting to fight any moment (Joeshmorecoolstuff during Fuelweaver speedrun: even though player was moving suspicious marble on beefalo he was farming nightmarefuel simultaneously and therefore, I guess, stayed mighty); d. Player planned to fight (boss, mac tusk, double bishop). Links: Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Outside of speedruns mentioned conditions still worked, there even was table in beta branch posted by @Third Porkus, I didn't really test every single thing from here, but seems fairly close to reality. The only people who stayed permanently mighty from my experience were newbies and griefers, I also heard Edgy Rick did it and tried to convince everyone that it was the most efficient thing one could do, but practice shows he was wrong and narrow-minded, and it's not only about mightyness. 7 hours ago, Toros said: New Wolfgang unless you’re fighting has little difference between normal and wimpy, and you easily can spend the first 7 days wimpy But I'm fighting a lot early game, and I'm not alone in that department. There are some characters who tend to have more relaxed early game, but Wolfgang wasn't one of them, on the contrary, he was about aggressive playstyle. That was changed and "justified" by fulfilling character "fantasy" better; old Wolf and new one are different characters, no wonder some people were upset. You can see mod returning old Wolfgang (created back during beta), I disagree with that too and, as I said, maybe will do something about it using mods. 7 hours ago, Toros said: Old wimpy form was horrible at everything Not everything: because of health scaling it allowed to increase healing efficiency, and because of other form having substantially higher hunger drain it allowed to save food in comparison. I heard people used wimpy form when they did stationary tasks like cooking food at base, crafting, etc. In vast majority of cases normal form was preferable to wimpy, but wimpy had some utility. 7 hours ago, Toros said: substantially larger hunger drain (1.5x vs 1.33x) (1.5-1.33)*75=12.75 . Your substantially larger hunger drain is 1 extra carrot per day (-11.3% compared to old Wolfgang's normal form). 7 hours ago, Toros said: but unless you’re fighting, using a piggyback, or doing repeated work actions (chopping, mining) there’s no need to maintain mighty If even you say that - person who seems to like staying permanently mighty and utilises rework tools in optimal way - then devs failed at insentivising people to stay permanently mighty. Character "fantasy" is not fullfilled then, and it's exactly what I wrote in original post, you just prove it. 7 hours ago, Toros said: I think there’s a lot more interesting decisions now because gyms give you a zone of control where being mighty is cheap and easy I didn't say they are hard or costly past initial cost, but initial cost exists, they are incompatible with servers where intentions of other people are unclear, they are not connected to the game loop past initial construction, they are not flexible and decisions variety doesn't exist once one build them. Same problems with gem bells although they have a little more flexibility and aren't stationary (ok on public server), but they constantly drain resources, just instead of extra food you are eating extra gems. 8 hours ago, Toros said: gym boats with no sails which have no disadvantages Except you will have to stop boat to exercise, and even if maximum speed of boat was buffed for mighty Wolfgang, I would like to see test of efficiency of the strategy on practice before stating anything about it. Moreover, boat can't go everywhere, and on default settings (the most common case) it's faster to run in straight line on foot rather than sail around (not to mention all the obstacles and manuvering in the ocean) due to both non-linear trajectory and boat speed compared to options available on land (speed modifiers, beefalo).
