One day as he's unloading the sacks he brought into town a man spots him and asks if he would be interested in joining the circus in his troupe as their strongman. With promises of better money and a new life Wolfgang left his family, writing often and sending money to them so they can retire while he tours around with the circus. Pumpkins are the great hunger crops; sure you can 'upgrade' pumpkins into 15 sanity restoring cookies but you can just as easily make fancy spiralled tubers with the potatoes for the same effect. For real sanity, I'd farm Tomatoes or Asparagus for the vegetable stingers, latter of which works great with pumpkins and potatoes in winter.
