How many RAM you need to run "forest" world and caves without lags?

Recommended Posts

RAM doesn't really work like that. (My computer hardware knowledge is very rusty, so be sure to correct me if i'm wrong).

RAM works the same as long as you have enough. If you don't have enough, then the game will simply run out of memory and error, it won't get laggier or anything like that. You should probably focus on other components of your computer rather than the RAM(CPU maybe? Again, my computer hardware knowledge is rusty, so I couldn't tell you)

ye, i think that video card could improve the performance because of the new texture for even trees?

OP. you should post your specs so we can see what is lacking your computer

you can get away with 4 gb of ram if the computer or server is only running dst dedi application. going higher means you need better cpu and ram if you want to run multiple programs on one computer

There's the case called 'virtual memory' that happens when your OS starts paging RAM contents to disk and uses it as spare memory instead.

Huge performance hit for any process that gets paged, but lets things that were trying to get more memory be able to get it.

if i have 8 gb ram with 2 cell how many people could i host

There's a lot of factors that goes into hosting for people.  Networking throughput, CPU power (single threaded), free memory are the main factors.

The easiest way for you to tell is to have a test server up and ask people to join and benchmark.  No real guesswork when it's live, you can see the results.

Yeah, my 40-Above-Average-Tree, 50-Spider base would beg to differ.

Depends if you mean lag (as in server lag) or game performance loss.

I get almost none on my solo worlds only occassionally it delays my movements sometimes for 0.5 sec

Both caves and surface are huge worlds. My PC is meh and i get some fps problems near Waterloged trees. But don't have any constant or high server lag issues.

then isnt lag but fps drops

cant be lag if you are conecting to your own computer xD

I'm constantly checking both performance and fps in my game and performance is the bigger issue. I've seen fps drop under 30, but it normally runs on 30 to 50 fps for me, depending on various factors. In my very crowded few hundred days base however, I NEVER get green performance, it's red pretty often and only playable without lag compensation. I've checked several times, but that issue seems to not be reflected by the fps. Yes, I'm playing solo (I can't really host multiplayer, it makes the game unplayable), yes, my graphic card makes the Gameboy Color look like the newest RTX innovation, probably.

but the colour of the performance, not only works very bad, but also doesnt tell you if the connection is bad or good, just the server status so, if the host suffers performance issues it will appear red or yellow. Isnt attached to ping but with ping and fps. My solo servers always have 0 ping but the scoreboards show yellow or red connection when im using weather pain on stupids amounts of stone fruit, when i harvest too much wood, etc because everyone in that server will suffer performance issues in these moments even if the connection is perfect

if you want to know how much latency (ping)  do you have in your server press backstep in your key board (the key to delete words when you have mistakes writing) and in the bottom right corner you will see your ping (with very small white letters) and in the top right corner will show the FPS. If you play on a server with just 1 slot it will show 0 or 1 ping for sure
