My Opinions on DS's DLC Characters

I doubt it's canon though. Shipwrecked and hamlet themselves have so many loose lore points, it doesnt make sense.

In fairness, this seems a fairly trivial problem to overcome. Give her the ability to make her own waves.

But I think if Walani was imported, her surfing mechanics would need to undergo a significant overhaul. My thoughts:

  • Walani should lie on the board and paddle in calm waters. This would be slow, but viable for picking up salt and cookie cutter shells.
  • Right-clicking anywhere on the screen would cause her to stand up and jump on the board, and a wave to form underneath her when she lands, which she can catch to start surfing in the direction of the click.
  • While surfing, steering is limited to the original direction of the wave, plus or minus 45 degrees or so. Trying to turn against the wave or crashing into anything will cause Walani to wipe out, filling your wetness meter, damaging the board and stopping you from moving while she gets back on. If you don't wipe out, the wave will peter out after a few screens of travel.

All that said, others have noted that she doesn't have much going on as a character. A character refresh could easily fix that, though. Warly didn't seem to have much going on either, and now he is the saddest good boi.

I always kinda imagined it came it through some weird time rift.

Yeah but DST is changing, for better or for worse it is changing.. you could argue that Pearl an NPC already in the game that you can do actual quests for to obtain items needed to progress to the point of where the game is now with Hologram Wagstaff in a Moonstorm, it ALREADY has RPG elements.

But I don’t feel like only having them Cameo as NPCs is the right move to make, those characters already have a fanbase of people who want to play as them in DST- which is more then I can say for new characters, because new characters always run the risk of NOT being liked.. Just look at all the complaints we read about on a daily basis about Wurt and Walter, now personally I LOVE Wurt.. but there are a lot of people unhappy with both hers & Walters current status in the game.

With already established characters: people already have a general idea of what to expect: for example- I know that if Walani gets added to the game her gameplay will obviously involve being able to craft, place down, ride on, and then hop off of and return to her inventory her surfboard. Thats pretty much ALL anyone expects out of Walani, any changes Klei does to her in addition to that is just bonus, for better or worse. 

Klei recently updated the game so characters skin showing clothing will match the skin of the character who is wearing it, this opens up a ton of customization choices for the wardrobe cabinet for them if they were ever added as playable.

Theres really no argument that could possibly be had against the facts:

DST > DS monthly content updates, refreshed characters, QoL changes and new content make it less of just DS but with friends, and more into a proper full fledge sequel.

Being able to play with friends, being able to buy and use hundreds of skins and belongings, massive control over how easy or how hard your game is thanks to QoL world Gen toggles..Theres really no reason to even PLAY DS Solo unless you just want to play a outdated version of the game.

And again like I said: If your on PC there are 100% completely free mods you can install that let you play Shipwrecked & Hamlet Content & playable characters in DST.  and as long as Klei continues to let those exist, I’m going to continue to beg that they add that content officially into the game so people who aren’t using mods can enjoy it too.

Yep, I think those both was mistake. Small give/take quest like trading mechanics in gorge or pigking could be okay but pearl & waggstaff quests really feels wrong for me. I know someone could like it and I see why, they are not bad quests but I think DST is not a quest game.

Nope, it's not. DST only could be RoG 2. Because DS have really different gameplay styles inside of it. The fact that mod exist that make SW and HAM playable in DST, doesn't make it a new game. You can not evaluate a game with community products. Also even if we could count workshop as game succes, you would not able to say it's better either.

Tropical Experience is really random and unbalanced. It puts everything exist in game folder to the game and there is a lot of problems in mod. Last time I played, cave entering sound was wormhole sound. Also it crashed when I entered house building. There is a lot of stuffs even I didn't know that makes this mod really unbalanced.

Island Adventures is great, except it  being abonded. So much stuff leaved and there is bugs and problems causes game crash instantly. Rocks spawns edge of islands, infinite boot jump loops, invisible character models etc. Also there is a lot of things unfinished like treasure system.

I don't underestimate any mod dev, don't get me wrong. It's impossible to porting tons of contents to another without critic problems. Also they make mod as they want, they didn't promised anything to us.

So if you want to play with SW or HAM without unbalanced mechanics or corrupted saves, you have to play DS. I don't even mention the Maxwell gate challanges... The only thing I'm trying to say is this, DST is not DS2, it only could be RoG2. DS is an alternative gameplay experience.

Imaging people saying that there logic in wasting resources on adding characters that dont fit dst. Not only that but totally reworking them to make them useful in dst just because few players like to play a wilson with surfboard

I dont know but isnt more logical to just release completly new characters that you can start building their perks from 0 so they dont feel forced? I cant imagine walani, wilba, wheeler, wilbur or woodlegs added into the game without feeling it forced and out of place

Also, they would ne free? Because a lot of rats will complain if they sell characters from DS as new characters

Also this is a bussiness not a dream fabric where your dream of playing as a character that doesnt fit the game will become true because klei know that there is a fan base (fan base=4 nerds playing wilson with surfboard). As a bussiness they need to waste their resources in something that will atract people, new and already fans, and having an old character released as new is something that doesnt create any hype or new to be curious about

And not talking about what was said 28391919394 of times. If there is every day less unique things in DS then there wont be a reason to be played. Dont come with "but dst is ds2" or any other walltext filled with nonsense

Saying anything other than that- is just being biased towards your personal favorite dlc character.

And as much as I would love to have Walani in the game.. I’ve at the very least provided logic, reasoning and detailed descriptions for how I felt every single last one of them fits into the game.

There is room for them ALL to be there, If Klei wanted to go through the effort of adding them.

And more importantly then that I feel the need to remind everyone that Warly (also a character from those DLCs) was added to the game NOT as a NEW DLC Character, but as a Character REFRESH…

So do the rest of the DLC characters count as being included on the Refresh list? Or was Warly the one (& only) exception?

except it isn't a fact and i have no idea what your counter argument is

same goes for every character "until wilson learns to make a surfboard" "until wilson learns how to tame monkeys" ect
