On the re-directing part, I figure the mod would replace the main.lua file so it can manage how the game is setup and run based on the results of a pop up screen to prompt the user on what mode to run the game in.The main file is run by the executable with the assumption of it being in the data/scripts folder, not sure we can change that part.I suppose the mod's version of the main could replace the package.loader info so the interpreter loads the remaining lua files from an alternate directory when in MP mode.

I can code...

but I know no lua :(

Well, if anyone starts working on this, contact me and i'll stay up for a week watching lua coding tutorials and then I can help

argh...

why do I keep finding myself posting on dead threads?!

bury this gain please

It doesn't matter if you are trying to mod the game as a hobby or if you hire a "code monkey" as someone mentioned to do the work, the game is in no state right now to effectively add something as complex as multiplayer by simply touching LUA files.

A kickstarter to add Multiplayer unofficially for Don't Starve will most likely end up being a scam. A pretty big one also...

...and now that I think about it... *COUGH*, never mind. I have to go now... somewhere. To do a... thing. Yeah. Don't mind me. I'm just gonna go do... yeah.

offtopic:ARE YOU IN A CAVE!!???

I already made the multiplayer mod only one downside to it: it crashes the game.

sirmentlegen with all honesty did you made the multiplayer or is it trolling?i watched your comments on other multiplayer threads long enough to give you benefit of doubt.also since you recently made a thread showing your supposedly multiplayer mod, why not give it out and let us test it?

Hello, everyone! Right off the bat I want to say that this thread is not meant to whine and cry about the devs adding multiplayer to the game. I am already well aware that they don't intend to do so in the near future if at all. I just want to look at this from a mod perspective.

This is my first post in this forum, but I have been playing Don't Starve for a while now, and I must say this game quickly became one of my favorites of all time. The true, hardcore survival element is something that was missing from games like minecraft or terraria, where you could just make a cave in a mountain or a small house and live forever. But the more I play the game, the more I feel like it could use some type of multiplayer. Me and my cousin had a couple of side by side playthroughs and we could not help but crave the idea of being able to survive together in this wonderful world within Don't Starve. A 2-4 player Co-op would be amazing in my opinion. So I have the following questions for the Don't Starve modding community:

1. Would Klei support the creation of a multiplayer mod? The developers have already stated that they dont plan on adding multiplayer to the game. They have said that making the game work over a network would mean that the game would need to be heavily modified. So my question is would they allow modders to make this a possibility? Would they be ok with the community taking this task in their own hands while leaving them to keep focusing on the single player aspect of the game, which is amazing in my opinion. The game is so good it doesn't really need multiplayer, but I think it would certainly appeal to a lot of people.

2. How hard would it be to make a multiplayer mod? I am not much of a coder, but I assume that multiplayer support would need to be coded on a way deeper level than adding a backpack slot for example. Is the current modding system even capable of these type of modifications? And if not, would Klei grant modders the neccesary access to the game code to even try to make this type of mod?

3. Is there anyone interested in making such a mod? As a graphic designer, I have had to learn about both the graphical side of things as well as the coding side. I am a much bigger fan of the graphic side, but I love this game so much, I would honestly learn this coding language just to help someone make this a reality. I cannot die before I can go hunt spider queens with my buddies!

Thank you for your time.

New viewers, please read WrathOf's response and Kevin's response before posting to this thread. Thank you.

In order to include multiplayer in this game most if not all of the code would have to be rewritten. Not possible for a mod, but possible, yes. It would be a giant pain in the ass, though.

Hello, I would like to say that looking for people to help me me and a colleague to develop the multiplayer, we are willing to try and comment on all our progress, we would like to, if possible, who knows Spanish wants to join but does not matter much, only to improve communication, nothing is impossible and despite being a noobs have any idea how to begin. Anyone interested I send an mpP. D. Destructive comments will be ignored, thanks(Sorry for the bad English)

to see ... I play starve me to do an almost daily basis and I thought that since I had so long could try, I do not mind having to reprogram almost everything and I have people willing to get to that point and more, nothing is impossible and also, Why that instead of dreaming about the multiplayer mode we try? if all we were to put a bit maybe would become feasible. Thanks for reading and commenting, and that despite everything , at least, I'll keep tryingThanks and sorry for my english level.

My friends started working on it a week ago there very good at codeing and when I say very good I mean very very very good I have not talked to them about it though
