About the destruction of Moonstorm

Recommended Posts

So...the moonstorm, it happening on my base today.

Though it self won't do damage to buildings, but those floating light ball and infused glass will damage those building with health bar like walls, fences and gate. It left my base badly damaged.

there is absolutely nothing we can do to prevent this disaster, maybe some modifications should be made so that it doesn't destroy them?

If it's part of the challenge, it should destroy functional building instead of decorations.

I hope this is fixed somehow... this would be really bad for animal enclosures =/

Oh, it's not just the enclosures. It's the animals themselves.

The moongleams deal 10 damage periodically and the infused glassy rocks deal 30 damage when they break after a while. This can kill all sorts of animals that you really want to keep alive, such as the Friendly Fruit Fly, Glommer (though at least you can get him again the next night), Rabbits (I use one as bait for my charged volt goats) and Grass Gekkos, which are literally finite and cannot even be healed cause they run away.

There is not a chance in hell I am risking the base I've been working on for 2000 days just to get a glorified miner's hat.

worst. If i have a pen with deers, koalaphants, ginger vargs, etc i wont risk all the work for that item

The storms seem to reposition very quickly, so if it happens to be in a bad spot, staying out of your base for about a day or two wouldn't be that bad compared to having to stay underground for fifteen days to protect a large base without summer protection.

Though I'm sure the ability to build some sort of device that makes storms less likely to spawn on an area would be really cool. What if it was made with shadow materials? A large shadow-like influence could prevent the moon's gaze from reaching a desired location. It certainly fits the theme of shadows vs gestalts.

Wow... Yeah that's bad.. I want the crown but I'm also not sacrificing my base for it.

I hope this changes or that staying out of your base definitely stops it from loading properly and actually doing any damage

Does staying away from an area 100% stop the detrimental effects?

It should. The moonstorm apparently teleports to a different biome every 5-6 days, so I guess it's not that bad to wait it out, but it does diminish the usefulness of the neverending full moon caused by the Mysterious Energy.

Yeah massively.

You can only turn the storm off after activating and killing the boss yeah?

I think I'm going to be completing the moonstorm event as fast as I can and turning it back off if it's destructive power remains as it is now.. which is sort of sad.

IIRC, walls/fences have a tag in the caves to where they can’t be broken by rocks/debris. I imagine that if this was applied to moon gleams and charged moonglass, it would probably help a considerable amount.

The mobs are a bit more tricky. Some mobs would regenerate/respawn after awhile, but there certainly are some major exceptions, like slurpers, grass geckos, rabbits, fruit fly, and no eyed deer. Perhaps there would be a whitelist of mobs that couldn’t be hurt to help reduce the damage to a base?

You can technically freeze them to heal them but this isn’t practical and the only time I did this was when I was doing a cave base because of earthquakes hurting them.

I’m convinced that the current beta is only part way done, the moonstorm event has more widespread effects on your world then what’s currently in the game- like.. I’m 80% certain that the Moonglass will mutate the mobs that are near it in the future.

Unless Klei changes their plans which were sort of revealed in their Rhymes with Play stream..

Spoiler

You can suspect that the storm still has more to it then what’s currently in the beta phase.

A storm that mutates existing biomes and mobs into something else sounds cool... but I’m curious if they’ll go through with that or ditch it due to technical/other reasons.

Did you take the wrong turn at Albuquerque again?

Not at all- you guys are complaining about the destruction the event does NOW meanwhile only Klei knows the full scope of what the events full intentions are.

All I’m saying is you should not complain now, because the intentions “could” (not saying they will be) much worse.

We shouldn't be complaining about a terrible mechanic, because Klei might be secretly planning to make it even worse?

then for what is feedback?

You got to remember it’s entirely optional: You can do it... or- you can ignore it, OR probably even turn it off completely in future world Gen settings.

However- many many people have been wanting new weather effects, and even more important: many more than that have wanted widespread sweeping changes to existing biomes/mobs/content.

And you can’t deny this wouldn’t be a unique way of giving us exactly that.

I'm secretly hoping for the moonstorms and moonstorm-related events to get worse, for more survivability challenges, such as new moon mobs being created on the overworld which slowly roam on the map, etc.

I like how moonstorms are able to discourage you from just sitting in base, and gets you to try to survive in the wilderness outside of base more, outside of the moonstorm areas, which is a lot of fun because it's a good challenge.

ye but that doesnt mean that they should deal damage to mobs, just make it harder to players

Actually, that's what I was thinking. But walls are almost nothing but decoration, (Except for a few slightly controversial uses) Getting the player to spend more effort protecting the decorations isn't a challenge.
