What got you good at DST?

What was the thing that either really got you into DS(T)

I saw some of the Klei DST animation advertisements while watching YouTube a few years ago, and I found them interesting enough to not skip them (which happens rarely). However, I never really got into the game because those animations did not really display the actual gameplay, so I never really learned about what kind of game DST was.

Recently though, some of my friends told me about it and one of them gifted it to me on Steam. Then I joined them in a world as Winona and have been hooked ever since. What really kept me playing was, as other people have already stated, curiosity. I realized that there was something more to this game than just the gameplay because of Winona's quotes and the constant mention of "Charlie," Winona's darkness warning where she says "C-Charlie?" and the game's quit menu where it says "Charlie will miss you," and I was SO confused, because Charlie isn't a playable character. Then I learned about the character animations, and I binge watched every DST video I could find, then I learned about the cyclum and metheus puzzles, forced my friends to complete the puzzles with me, and read the fandom wikipedia. And even after that, I come to the forums and learn that there is STILL so much more that I have to learn. Then I realized "oh yeah... the game has so many things for me to learn, too."

I can't say that I'm good at it yet... probably because I've been too focused on the lore, hehe. :wilson_dorky:

How I got into DS, during its early beta access. I believe a friend got me a copy or told me to buy since it had permadeath and I was into games like tboi that had permadeath that sends you back to the start, I started playing until the early access of Shipwrecked. at the time I was more focus into team fortress 2. think around 2017/18 I returned to ds/t since i was curious on what changed and I had a free copy of dst at the time for owning reign of giants.

How I got good at the game was through trial and error, many deaths from raid bosses and boss mobs that i never fought before. and the concept of building a society when hamlet released made me want to improve myself with the game and get better at both ds and dst

the thing that first introduced it to me was an episode jacksepticeye that he did on the game so i purchased the game for myself around the time wortox was released. what got me hooked was wx's and eventually Wurts character and personality.

uhh..ehhh hmmmm...............

I've known about DST ever since the reign of Giants beta from my brother back in the solo days, but I never payed it personally until about two years ago.
As for getting good at it, just playing the game is good enough. The more you experiment with your playstyle and go out of your comfort zone, you'll gradually get better and better through experience.

I just kept playing over and over, dying and learning something new. If I ever got stuck I would look through a wiki page or watch a guide. I think I got good in the end once I made it to year 2 in-game but even then I'm still learning new things.

Though I can say that when I want to test something new, I would persuade one of my friends to do it and observe (its all my fault that one of my friends have mostly died to spiders). I regret nothing
