survivors ultimate exploit

Recommended Posts

brought to you by hydra facility, the survivors ultimate exploit, which is a fusion of two of my other exploits, the transit tube - exploit, and the dupe eat-no-more.

its actually really simple: the dupe takes some food, in this case berry sludge, and enters the transit tube:to go eat.

however, when reaching the door, it closes, which causes the dupe to go another way to get to the mess table.

when the dupe reaches that door, it closes, forcing the dupe to go back through the other door, which is now open.

this rids the dupes of several needs: no need for oxygen, magical bladder-emptying, no need for calories, and no exhaustion.

Spoiler

however, when you reload the game, the dupe will die.

to solve this, print a dupe before exiting/reloading the game.

This nicely illustrated a general principle: Small things put in to make the game work (How would you mop up in a transport-tube? Dupes dying from starvation while carrying food would not make sense at all...) scaled up all out of proportion. This is, incidentally, one thing that simulations are pretty useful for: See what happens if some parameters are vastly different than in the "normal" situation.

Also, not an exploit, works as intended and does not destroy game balance (which is the only thing Klei should really care about here).

you can setup this thing, and then leave your computer for more than 5 hours, and when returning, your colony is still alive

so its a sustaniable design, right?

Sustainable, yes. Useful, no. Except as a demonstration of some principle I do not remember right now ;)

Haha!  @metallichydra, This is I think where I draw the line on my exploits. If it's not "useful" then I leave it out. Of course, useful is relative. This one will keep a base from ever seeing "Colony Lost". :)

And it did give me a good laugh. So useful for something after all ;)
