A request for proper Airlock Doors

Recommended Posts

I seriously don't understand why Pneumatic Doors don't just block the transfer of liquid/gas passively when powered.  I mean, I can make a perfect vacuum seal with 38 grams of water, it's the only reasonable way to make an "airlock".  If I actually want to use doors, I must set up multiple powered doors with an automated gas manager to prevent the two sides from ever spreading to the other.

So yeah, just make the door block transference of gas/liquid while powered and on auto and I'm a happy boi

It sounds worse when you actually write it out.

And if Klei answer with "air pressure able to push liquid around", I will laugh. Even more if they decide to make a "wind".

Almost impossible with launch this close. But imagine topic title in this forum.

Honestly i think the airlocks works as intended and the liquid locks too.

Both are viable ways to stop gases from mixing in the reality too.

Always in reality you will need a decompression chamber between two doors to keep two areas perfectly isolated.

So said why aren't we using liquidlocks in the reality instead of decompression chambers in reality?

There's liquid mechanics that are not modelled in game. Even so I don't think is the airlocks that need to be buffed, more likely the liquids game model to be properly addressed.

If we look at the liquids themselfs, they are actually almost properly modeled to be honest, what really needs to be better modeled is the interaction with gasses and airpressure.

Furthermore, in the game actually the liquid will stay clean even if an exosuit covered in slimelung trepasses them.

Allowing liquids to get dirtier could better addressed and making the liquid locks less appealing and more close to reality.

As last notice, air pumps.

Both big and small version doesn't really interact in a straightforward way with the surrounding making decompression rooms complex and big, and, even more important, time consuming for the dupes (and in my opinion this last point is the key factor that makes liquid locks no match compared to regular airlocks+decompression room).

So what I'd do is:

Making liquids interact with suits and similar object passing through them

Making airpressure's interaction with liquids more relevant

Fixing air pumps to have a 4x4(regular) and 4x3 (mini) full air drain with at least 1kg(regular) and 0.5kg(mini) so that the power consumption could finally better reflect the capabilities of the two devices

My two cents ofc^^

I'm not convinced that's needed. I don't really see how it's going to improve the gameplay.

For people that are worried about liquid locks, just give them magical airlock doors. Then we're both happy.
