Is it inevitable to create a new world to access the new content when it is out of the beta?

It's really hard to say good bye to my old world, which is almost 3000 days.

And do we have to create a new world for each new updates for the incoming months? That's kind of a bummer if I want to do some serious base buildings.

Is there anyway that we can use our existing worlds, but new islands and stuff can be automatically added to the existing old worlds?

Not at this time. For future updates, we will look into the possibility of retrofitting the new content into existing DST worlds, as we did for the A New Reign updates.

To me this sounds like the ocean is going to require a new world, but whatever stuff they add into it may not—if I recall it was stated by JoeW at one point that retrofitting was unlikely when the patch was just announced. It's hard to tell what "future updates" implies here.

I really hope they can figure out how to retrofitting the new additions to the old world. I think lots of players like me had hundreds of hours poured into the old world base building, and it's a lot to ask to redo everything in the new world.

You know, I was feeling something similar at first but then I took a deep breath and realized that new DST content contain water that replaces abyss.

Next thing I remember was installing beta without even caring for my old worlds. They are nothing compared to the new ones I can create now and in the future. It's like a dream come true.

Leaving your safe zone is part of the fun. So is rebuilding.

mega bases are a snore fest once they're actually finished.

If it's a 500 days base or a 1000 days base, it's easy to rebuild everything. But mine is over 2800 days. That's 500 hours of efforts. The thought of spending another 500 hours to create a new world, that's what stopping me trying.

Now the question is, do I know for sure that it will be retrofitting or not, so that I shall start building everything all over again, or shall I wait for the retrofitting.

It's a bit crazy to say since rollback exists, but Don't Starve tries to teach you to let go and refocus your efforts into making something new. I don't think that they'll be able to retrofit the new content into old worlds, but I feel that giving up a mega base in exchange for being able to sail to a new island (Heck, being able sail at all) is well worth the trade off in the long run.

If sailing doesn't appeal to you, just keep the old save around in case you wish to build upon it.

I have a bad feeling even if they managed to retrofit the new content that modded worlds will still be screwed.

not only modded worlds. i just played 350 days in hamlet after they released the finished game and then 2 days later a patch added the teleportato but you need to spawn it with console or make a new world. the telepotato brings a lot very nice looking setpieces which you cant spawn in. so i had to make a new world. you cant imagine how much work i had in my last world. nearly all jungles were COMPLETELY cleared and also ruins. and when i mean cleared that means ive mined, picked, hamemred, killed, sheared evrything possible. even the traps in the ruins were cleared. i had chests full with darts. i hammered and digged both cities. i was going to place some turfs where the both old cities were but luckily i didnt do it yet xD

nvm i do evrything again. just need my helmet and spear ;)
