Developer ImDaMisterL Posted July 26, 2015 Developer Share Posted July 26, 2015 While in the DST preview comic we saw Wilson building the portal, in the DST new UI, in the tiny words down to the bottom of the screen, more to the right, it says "The Great Maxwell is not responsible for injuries, physical or psychic caused by the portal (something in those words). So, did Maxwell create that portal BEFORE he was sucked by Them into the Don't Starve world? Are the events of DST happening BEFORE DS? Can the portal really damage you? If so, I want a refund, Maxwell! I need more puzzles revealing the game's backstory, like, right now. MikeyMusic Posted July 26, 2015 Share Posted July 26, 2015 It could be Maxwell's invention, and then Wilson went ahead and actually made one (or made it based off of other knowledge bestowed upon him by Maxwell). From what I understand from this video, the reason Wilson knows how to make anything at all (besides campfires and other basic stuff, because I'd HOPE he'd know how to make that on his own) is because Maxwell granted him the knowledge in a ploy to trick Wilson into making the original portal/door. The DST portal could either be another one of Maxwell's designs or something Wilson made based upon the original portal/Maxwell's door, but either way, it was Wilson who actually made it. This is just my guess though EDIT: Something else I just thought of, even though I like my first idea better (contains potential spoilers? better safe than sorry I guess...) Since Maxwell potentially has large control over the world and the characters' fates, we could say that he would be the person to hold responsible for any damage that characters face once entering this portal into a multi-player world. Obviously the disclaimer says he's not responsible, but implies that he is in a position that REQUIRES a disclaimer protecting him, because without it, the characters could consider him the reason they suffer. So maybe it's not the portal itself that causes pain, but the events following the character entering it that introduces trouble. Kinda like how if a crummy driver somehow gets a really nice sports car, can't handle the speed, and then crashes. Just the world of DS is Maxwell property (so to say)2.DST is after DS story and after Wilson gets free from the shadow throne so ... new master of the world = expect new strange things that has nothing to do with old world. The canonical timeline of the DS universe goes something like this... 1890s - 1906: William Carter origin story1906: William and Charlie enter the DS world. 1906 - 1910ish: Some crazy stuff happens that we haven't told you about yet.... 1910ish - 1921: The various playable characters get pulled into the DS world.1921: Wilson gets pulled in (Forbidden Knowlege trailer).*THE ORIGINAL GAME + ROG STARTS HERE*?: Wilson lives in DSworld for a while. Dies a lot, eventually finds Maxwell's door and confronts Maxwell?: Wilson replaces Maxwell on the Nightmare Throne, Maxwell becomes Waxwell.?: Some other crazy stuff happens that we haven't told you about yet.... ?: The DST plotline begins. So there are some gaps, but DST happens after Wilson clears adventure mode and replaces Maxwell. I kinda wonder about what that means lore-wise. Does that mean that the first meeting of DS protagonists was when Wilson freed Wes? Also the title screen says "A sequel of sorts." I actually read that as 'Elephant' and proceeded to have a good laugh about it im really dumb but in regards to the timeline, (actual Adventure Mode spoilers this time) I hadn't seen that before. Knowing this, unless it gets changed retroactively, this now means that DST's equivalent of Adventure Mode (if it ever gets one, which I hope it will) probably won't end the same way, because for Wilson to have made it out, it most likely means that he or some other force overcame the shadow whatevers. It would seem weird for Wilson to be free, and then somebody playing as Wilson somehow ends up locked into a throne again. That's all the commentary I'm gonna make on that subject, though. O__O Close inspection shows black fur/feathers around the eye resembling a smallbird without its beak. I do agree that the arm scratching it could be from a deerclops but it could also be a tallbird leg... Not only is the eye used, but also an arm of a Deerclops. Also, the deerclops eyeball and the arm seem to be still alive. Could wilson have transformed a half-dead Deerclops into a portal? EVERYBODY! CHECK THE DST CODE TO SEE WHETHER DEERCLOPS HAS ANYTHING "STRANGE" ADDED TO IT!!!
