About Glowfly/Life Cycle...

Recommended Posts

Does anyone feel like Life cycle in the game somehow ..... too much?

There's only half (or even 1/3) of the Life cycle I had experienced during the humid season in the screenshots
Traps are great but these bugs run the same speed as you hold the stalking stick (walking cane) so all you really can do is escaping back to watch tower in town and let the guards take care of them (which I built like...8 towers 8 guards which I'm still able to survive)

Before humid season comes, prevent massive waves of life cycle hatching by destroying the glowfly cocoon but it has 300HP. Burning, attacking it, lighting gun powder and still not fast enough to clear all cocoons in the deep rainforest...

Any tips & advices?

rapid beettles is really REALLY annoying and dangerous
it was lush season, i was prepearing for a trip into the jungle, so i could find the ruins which leads to the second island.
ro bin was fully packed with nice stuff, and materials for armor, and i had a weevole mantle, a mant helmet, some jerky and 1 taco.
i finally reach the unexplored part of the jungle, not far from the coocooned trees, which had no inhabitants since they had been massacred by the rapid beetles from humid season.
suddenly, i hear a sound:
(rapid beetle sound)
damn

FPS immidiatly goes down to around 10 - 15, i am ambushed by 20 - 30 beetles, and each second 10 more joins the fight.
i then try to flee, but the massive lag continues, and im forced to tank them, luckily most of the beetles is focusing on ro bin.
my football helmet then breaks, and i know its time to flee. there's now so many beetles, and FPS is around 5 - 10.
i then flee, and ro bin dies, due to him being unable to escape the huge mass of beetles.
the beetles continue to chase me, and i loose half my inventory and all my sanity thanks to sneezing.
it turns dark and i equip my miner helmet, which i had found on the roc island.

i am now followed by 20 - 40 rapid beetles, and a terrorbeak.
but then …
the rapid beetles decides to kill the brambles that spawns in lush season, and there's now only 5 beetles and a terrorbeak.
i kill them, and escapes with 22 hp, and a very low % weevole mantle, and some ruins exploration stuff, including a machete.

i reach my base, followed by only a terrorbeak and a crawling horror, both which i kill, and then sleep in my tent.

there's only 1 thing i need to say now:

DEATH TO ALL BEETLES!!!

I'v never seen that many beetles :-:

Well, a huge spider army will handle this

but it'll lag so much you cant do anything :(

after my first story about how i almost died to beetles, i reached second temperate season.
i then decide to look for the entrance to the second island … again. (i want to escape from hamlet)
i then find it, i dont encounter any big beetle attacks (some small, but not enough to do much damage)
i then reach the second island and im just out of the ruins aaand… i hear the beetle sound, and im ambushed by an army of beetles, and bat shadows appear.
FPS goes down to 4 - 6, and the only thing i can do, is to run or tank (i run, cause there's 20 - 40 beetles, and 10 - 20 bats)
i then get out of the jungle, still followed by a giant mob of mobs.
then, i find the pig town.
SAVED!

(not quite true, im webber, so i have to run from the guards, beetles and the 2 bats still following me, and just hope they'll attack each other at some point)

they do, and im now only chased by guards.

got the can of silly string, and now go into the jungle again to get some living logs.

i get some, and im insane, so the night is spent in a cave, fighting shadow monsters.

now its day, i search for the elder manddrake town (the other manddrakes where from lonely huts). not much time after ive found the elder mandrake town, the beetles ambush me again, and it turns dusk, so elder mandrakes get out.
im then chased by many many beetles and some elder mandrakes.
after fleeing from them, i get back to the mandrake town, and gets the mandrakes in the ground, and tries to eat them:
BUT I CANT!!! :(
i then prepare to cook them, but beetles arrive again.
:apologetic:
of course
the roc shows up
i get out of the jungle, cause i have very low health
the rocs takes me, and i go through the caves, get home, and sleep.
i cant remember at what point ro bin died, but he did.

i hate those beetles.

The number of beetles seems a bit much.  I have killed them in their "bubble stage" = takes 10 hits with a spear to kill one.  And there are so many, did I even make a dent?

Advice re: bringing guards is good.  Lots and lots of guards, though.  Wondering about blowing them up with gunpowder; have not yet attempted.

as far as i know, the best way to kill them is to:

Spoiler

use bug b' gone on them

im playing webber, and dont wanna have the shamlet on at all times (aaaaand, i lost it to sneezing, and since its invisible, i cant find it (was chased by rapid beetles, so didnt see where it dropped :( )
of course i could make a new, but i dont wanna waste the beard hair, since i dont really use shamlet mask

You have not recovered even by pressing on the spacebar?

Too bad, anyway you were not going to meet the pigs, so it was useless in the game.

i had to meet the pigs, most of the stuff i needed was in pig towns, some is impossible without, some is just extremely hard without:

  • gears: kinda impossible
  • living logs: if i go to rainforest, FPS goes down to 5 - 7, and 90% chance of dying to a million rapid beetles
  • azure feathers: i went to town to kill pigeons, cause i didnt know how else to get feathers for porkitator
  • can of silly string: i want to escape this unfair world

cant remember the rest of the stuff

right now, hamlet just feels unfair, have to rely too much on luck, or else there's too much lag for it to be playable:

  • roc: if you're being chased by something and it then arrives, you're most likely going to get hit by a massive leg
  • rainforest: after first humid season, going to the rainforest means death, if you're not lucky to have some other enemy spawn to take care of rapid beetles
  • lightning: your base is going to burn to the ground, if you dont find enough gold by the first 14 days
  • lush season: forever insane is just boring :(
  • webber: of course he has his spiders, but if you're going to base in pig town, being unable to use head slot is really just an almost too big drawback (pit hat, no helmets)

and its too much about the pig city, its like we're forced to live in the pig city to experience half of the game, but if you live in the city, you dont experience the other half.

I understand now better.

Try to avoid going into the jungles that have no creatures capable of killing the beetles... or just plant spider eggs near it if your playing as Webber.

Until you find the gold, avoid spending the time near your base during rain until you find enough (you can safely spend the nights in temples or caves since the weather has no effect on them and unlike in the base game, they don't drain your sanity unless your staying in the darkness).

As for the sanity problems during the lush season, you can cut blooming tuber trees and cook them (each tuber tree will drop 3 blooming tuber, that aren't poisonous and will regenerate you 5 sanity after you cook them) so just spend the day on getting some and you will easly stay sane (not recommended for characters with high sanity such as Wickerbottom ).

Learn to dodge the leg. Its really easy. You just start walking in the opposite direction a soon as you see the shadow.

Just dont buy the house until you have a lightning rod and stay away from your camp when its raining. How easy do you want it? Just learn and follow patterns.
