From what I've seen, the only vulnerable part of the silo is the gantries, and repairing them from the rare strike is sustainable and not too inconvenient. I still feel it's better to have doors that shield the rocket, as launching the rocket wastes a lot of recoverable steam or CO2 and heat otherwise. You just need to understand the meteor seasons and time the landing properly with a water clock. As I just launch the rocket and then do something else and check back later, the rocket will usually get entombed though. Not that it would be a problem in any way. Obviously when the game matures, rockets will take damage from meteors so best design with that in mind.
