[Suggestion] Decor Rebalance

Recommended Posts

It would be nice to have a decor rebalance, or new furniture to decorate with. It gets kinda bland using the same pieces over and over and seeing the same art on several canvases. With the need of the heavy Watt wire in most production rooms, it really brings down the decor ratings and stresses dups out.

Also on another note, it would be nice if the drywall was able to hide piping, vents, and wire to give it a worth while reason to make other than if you’re at the surface of the asteroid.

This. I would love to see differing kinds of viable furniture (so the same 2 items that clearly work the best for decor aren't used over and over), and I was definitely disappointed when I found out that wallpaper (drywall now I guess) doesn't hide piping/ventilation/wiring. It really should! It would be awesome for it to have a purpose other than in space.

In space, would it make sense to hide wires and pipes behind drywall in the vacuum of space? The asteroid wall, sure, it isn't pretty (No decor Bonus)

But, it allows you to see gasses better. Drywall has no other value then hide the look of gasses (You can't see chlorine or hydrogen that easily) and keep precious gas from leaking into space.

I'm talking about in the base itself, having the drywall hide it. There's not really a vacuum of space within the asteroid. Really just anything that's able to hide insulated things/heavy-watt wire, no matter how hard it would be to get.

Heavy Watt Wire is one of those things that can't be hidden easily. It can't go through walls without a connector to keep the floor in place, and i doubt that drywall could hide such a thing. Sure, maybe cover the decor of normal wires and pipes for sure (If klei decides to) and bridges too. Just the really, and i mean really, heavy stuff would have to stay out. Heavi-watt Wires, conductive piping, the wiring and piping plugged to a device. Some examples

For balance sake, Heaviwatt should never be able to be hidden like that. The purpose is to make the player think more cleverly of where you put it.

but some Decoration alternatives would be neat yes, perhaps wallpaper has visual ’variants’ just for the sake of decoration, like wooden walls, squeaky clean, metal sheets etc etc.

Agree heavy-wattage wire should not be concealable, but everything else which is not a structure should be.

If drywall could hide pipes then it would viable to gives pipes some negative decor, I always found it odd that they do not when pipes are FAR more noticeable and ugly then a typical wire.  I would put Drywall at the very start of the tech tree, and provide a different metal/plastic based back wall that vacuum proof late game.  Give Drywall a small positive decor value too.

couldn't agree more, the decore gets really old really fast. new decore options would surely be highly appreciated as well as new motifes for pictures and statues, like e.g. Vermeers Girl with a Pearl Earring or Michelangelos David, just to name a few.

@Ellilea Made some amazing custom paintings and even a new sculpture. It would for sure add a nice touch to have them incorporated into the official game or even a small mod of some sorts. It gets old looking at Munch’s The Screamer over and over

That’s very true, I’m fairly new to this game only about 100 hours logged just messing around and figuring things out.

I'm happy to know you liked them :) I give anyone willing free permission to incorporate whatever I made in that topic into a mod :)

I'm a coding 0, my highest Don't Starve modding achievement was changing a custom item from the character template into a stack of 1 Fireflies. That may be... insufficient.

Ask @RoboPhred.

#include <iostream>
#include <climits>
class Coder{
  private unsigned long long int codingStrength = 0;
  Coder(int str){
    self.codingStrength = str;
  }
  int getStr(){
    return codingStrength;
  }
};
int main(){
  Coder RoboPhred = new Coder(ULLONG_MAX);
  std::cout << RoboPhred.getStr() << std::endl;
  delete RoboPhred;
  return 0;
}

Aside from a few hacks to enable pre-release features, I don't really mod ONI in this way.  There are a few other talented modders you should be asking, Cairath among them.

Also, I don't appreciate being deleted like that :p
