Any use for chlorine gas vent?

Recommended Posts

There is a critter breed called Squeaky Puft that consumes chlorine to make Bleach Stone. I've never done that, but I imagine it would be very useful in a late game for saving on water you normally use for hand washing in bathrooms and near swamp biomes. I've never had time to make that work for me, but it seems like some under-used thing that everyone will eventually start doing once they figure it out.

squeaky pufts eat chlorine and turn it into bleach stone. So your vents are basically free food. (eggs or meat from the pufts)

^never thought about the eggs.. ya.. maybe I should start looking at them again. The mix of eggs + water conservation should be totally worth the effort.

I like having an unlimited source of chlorine.  It allows me to use ore scrubbers or hand sanitizers (with squeaky pufts).  It also allows me to be assured that I can always build chlorine disinfection rooms.

You can liquify it. 100 points for coolness when your base has a green liquid chloride pool!

Not much more to do with it than. Squicky puft, ore scrubber and balm lillie farm

Balm lily farms don't consume chlorine, so you don't need it for that.

I haven't implied that they consume it. But you need chlorine for a balm Lillie farm. As was the question. Technically only above 200g/square but it still counts.:wilson_vforvictory:

Edit. Another use for chlorine is to create a bacteria free atmosphere for fridges. And to keep your slime in. If you have >1800g per square it won't gas off and the chlorine kills the slimelung

think i need to wait till they add that work schedule feature at the moment it feels like half of the dupes normal activity has been nurfed 30% work time just got taken from us with no ability to tweak it kinda half baked atm even for a preview...

i mean really did we only get this because forum was asking.  it feels last minute

The last two patches were huge.  I think it makes sense that this patch is smaller.  Especially since they had to spend more fixing bugs in the last patch than usual.

It doesn't save any water per se, it only allows you to avoid having to route the pipes to and from the sieve. It's genuinely useful in precisely two situations: when your sink water runs out, and when your sieve pwater pipe backs up and clogs sinks.

It's safe to consider bleach stone to be worthless.

Yep, I leave all bleach stone my squeaky pufts create in their stable on the floor, so if I ever hit a dry period on my geysers all that bleachstone will off gas :p If i never run out of chlorine gas it just sits doing nothing.

But as for the OP, unless you play on the hardest settings then the only use for chlorine really is for pufts. Since you do not need to do anything else with it really.

ya but, aren't sinks the only real reason you need to heat up, then cool down water, to remove the germs after you run out of your original clean water source?

You can use germy water in toilets, carbon scrubbers, eletrolyzer... etc, with almost no drawbacks. Its only the sinks that near the real clean and germ free water. I thought that makes beach stone pretty useful.

I wont lie, I forgot germs could even exist in the water XD but my water is a stock standard 60-90 degrees most of the time

Nope. Unless Expressive update stealthily changed that, dupes can wash hands and shower with germy water with no ill effects.

What? If I use germy water in a sink, none of the slimelung or food poisoning germs will stick to the dupes? Like even if they eat right after?

Thats crazy.. just doesn't make sense. I knew they could wash and shower with super hot water to no effect, but having germ riddled water not do anything seems a little easymode to be true.

Two is generally overkill at the moment.

I like to have a chlorine gas vent on my map. Doesn't need to be much.

Chlorine is useful for a number of things, and/but there's too many ways to inadvertently destroy gasses currently.

  • Chlorine food storage... I tend to use CO2 storage because it's easier, but this works. And destroys germs a whole lot better.
  • Chlorine slimey-item storage/decontamination. So much better than the ore scrubber (which also uses chlorine...)
  • Chlorine normal-item storage... can slow down dupe access but still useful.
  • Late-game, just fill your base with chlorine.
  • Chlorine displaces other gasses, useful for e.g. as a layer on top of a PH2O tank.

If you have a sealed room with the pufts in it, the bleachstone will sublimate over time whilst your geyser is dormant, You will probably still get a net worth of bleach stone as well, I would recommend multiple Squeaky pufts stables, and just leave all of the bleachstone on the ground. A massive benefit to this room is the meat will not go off either so you can just let the pufts float above their brothers and sisters
