You put in 65g of Dirt to get get 60g of dirt when you cook the 120g of fertilizer. Remember that you lose half mass when digging.

and you dont have to dig it ? If you cook it on a rail you can ensure the packets are max 10kg, which will convert into packets of dirt, not tiles.

You don't? Do you have an example (pic perhaps)? Last time I've seen someone using rail to cook fertilizer it didn't drop as debris.

Well perhaps 10kg is to big of a packet. But if you reduce packet size, eventually you'll reach a point where it drops as debris.

OK Mr. Wikipedia I believe you. /s

Can you link a proof? I did.

:) It's rather simple, if you don't want to believe me, then don't.

I've checked the thread you linked, and no where was it stated what size the packets used was, only temps etc.

I would guess it's standard 10kg packets. If you think this is fert only, then you could try and pack 1.000.000 kg of polluted water into 1 tile, and then make that one tile spontaneously combust. If the dirt from that cook does not form a tile, then you're right and i'm wrong. :)

So instead of showing us cooking fertilizer you want me to boil polluted water? Your arguments are stellar.

There's different mechanic when you go liquid > gas, than solid > solid.

You're right, i'm wrong, you won. go get a cookie, you earned it. ;)

I just tested this in debug and, no, when fertilizer converts to dirt it forms a tile of dirt in all packet sizes right down to a gram and below it just doesn't have heat transfer anymore. Damn. You got me all excited there for a moment. Please test your assertions. It doesn't take long

This is the same for all solids IIRC, when they convert to another solid they form a tile, even clay into ceramic does it.

Liquids turning into solids DO depend on the mass of the liquid, too little and it forms a dropped item, too much and it forms a block.

During CU beta I did manage in debug to get a small amount of fertilizer debris to cook into dirt as debris rather than a tile, but the resulting mass was still halved.

Yeah I think it still applies the usual half mass mumbo jumbo.

Ive only just sorted out my liquid cooling so I will have a look at dirt as well cuz I have 0kg of it, so anythings better than nothing.

  • There is lots of dirt in the Spawning Biome

  • How do I generate dirt, enough to supply some 20 mealwoods after cycle 200 or so?

you shouldn't grow mealwood after 100 cycle, or even earlier
